Serenity Homes is a proud local family-owned business.Garyco-founded the compa-nywith his wife, Jennifer, in March of 2001. Having worked in the Adelaide building industry for over 30 years, Gary has learned the ins and outs of the entire region, giving him an understanding and appreciation of the Adelaide environment that is second to

As a result of their extensive knowledge of the local environment and use of sustain-able materials and products, Serenity Homes has been acknowledged as a GreenSmart builder by the Housing Industry Association (HIA). According to Gary, the company is dedicated by taking every sustainable or en-ergy-efficient factor into consideration when developing a home design. “We try to keep everything in order so that the design provides the client with a more comfortable and enjoyable home to

live in, while also reducing the overall energy cost throughout its entire lifespan,” he adds. “We use things like uPVC windows, double glazing, hydronic underfloor heating, and battery ready solar inverters to get the most out of our houses.” Serenity Homes has the upper hand against their competitors in the use of these cutting edge products and techniques. Gary credits this advantage to their suppliers, who keep them up to date on the “latest and great-est materials and technologies.” For exam-ple, Serenity Homes was the first builder in

South Australia to build a residential prop-erty using gas reverse cycle air conditioning. “They came to us first with the product and we jumped on it,” he proclaims. “We have a great relationship with our suppliers, and we’re constantly talking to them about new and exciting products that we can add to our portfolio. As a result, they often come to us first and ask us to be the first builders in South Australia to use their brand new prod-ucts, and I love that.”

Over the course of their 13-year history, Serenity Homes has been inundated with over 25 awards and commendations at vari-ous levels, including three major national building awards. Remarkably, the company won theHIA South Australian Professional Small Home Builder/Renovator of the Year Awardfor the seventh time at this year’sSouth Australia Housing Awards. “We obviously don’t build homes and do

It’s very much appreciated because it means we’re doing something right.” At the same awards ceremony, Serenity Homes was also honoured with additional accolades, winning the Renovation/Addi-tion over $550,001 and Renovation/Ad-dition Project of the Yearawards for their

outstanding work on a 120year-old house in Thorngate.Regarded by judges as being “stunning from top to bottom,” the renova-tion included a 300 square-metre, two-sto-rey extension that was attached to the rear of the property. According to Gary, the project presented its fair share of challenges, making the award recognition much more gratify-ing. “We had to cut the back of the house off, and with the remaining portion of the building, we removed all of the flooring. -ered that the whole floor was full of white ants, so the whole lot had to come out,” he explains.”So, at the end, we were left with just the stone walls of the building and the roof framing − the rest of the building was gut-ted. We then renovated the existing part of the home better than the original and added the brand new addition to the rear.”

Currently, the company is working on a number of beautiful homes that are under construction at the moment. They are also simultaneously tackling a large renovation-projectthat involvesstripping the majority of the building down to its original walls and starting from scratch, similar to their Thorn-gate project. Serenity Homes’ reputation as a high quality custom design and construct builder haslaid a strong foundation for the business in the Adelaide region. Looking ahead, Gary points out that he is more than happy stick-ing with the current business model and says that he’s very excited about continually rais-ing the bar on the quality of their homes. “At Serenity Homes, we encourage our
