IntroductionThis Insights Discovery profile is based on Martina Lokajová’s responses to the InsightsPreference Evaluator which was completed on 08 September 2015.

The origins of personality theory can be traced back to the fifth century BC, when Hippocratesidentified four distinct energies exhibited by different people. The Insights System is built aroundthe model of personality first identified by the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung. This modelwas published in his 1921 work “Psychological Types” and developed in subsequent writings.Jung’s work on personality and preferences has since been adopted as the seminal work inunderstanding personality and has been the subject of study for thousands of researchers to thepresent day.

Using Jung's typology, this Insights Discovery profile offers a framework for self-understandingand development. Research suggests that a good understanding of self, both strengths andweaknesses, enables individuals to develop effective strategies for interaction and can help themto better respond to the demands of their environment.

Generated from several hundred thousand permutations of statements, this profile is unique. Itreports statements which your Evaluator responses indicate may apply to you. Modify or deleteany statement which does not apply, but only after checking with colleagues or friends to identifywhether the statement may be a “blind spot” for you.

Use this profile pro-actively. That is, identify the key areas in which you can develop and takeaction. Share the important aspects with friends and colleagues. Ask for feedback from them onareas which seem particularly relevant for you and develop an action plan for growth personallyand interpersonally.

OverviewThese statements provide a broad understanding of Martina’s work style. Use this section to gaina better understanding of her approaches to her activities, relationships and decisions.

Personal Style

Martina is a curious and keen student of all that is going on around her. She constantly opens upnew avenues of thought or action and can keep them open against all comers. She values herinspiration above all else and constantly strives to turn her original ideas into her reality - a realitywhich may not seem as real for others. She often pushes others as hard as she pushes herselfand tends to be a challenging adversary. Her life will tend to be a series of initiated, butunfinished projects.

Her interest lies in seeing possibilities beyond what is already present and known, by using herinsight, ingenuity and intellect. She is motivated more by the big picture and goals than byregulations and procedures, and is content with established structures only if she can abandonthem when they don't serve the intended purpose. Tending to pursue success mainly to reinforceher sense of self worth, she likes to experience a steady stream of new ideas to assist her in goalattainment. She likes to make sure that she knows what is going on and tries to make sure thateveryone is pulling their weight. Martina's interest, enthusiasm and energy levels are high. Shewill dismiss negatives, being eager to accomplish the task.

She is versatile, clever, enthusiastic, easy with people and full of ideas about everything underthe sun. Her imaginative perception gives her the energy to start lots of new projects, and keep alarge number of balls in the air. She is less suited to work that ties her down to routine details. She finds it hard to concentrate for long periods on this kind of work, becoming bored andfrustrated. She is aggressive, competitive, ambitious and seeks to win. At work she often makessignificantly more starts than finishes and she may need someone else to follow through with thedetails.

Martina has a natural instinct for spotting trends and future developments, often before othersare even remotely aware of them. She is an enthusiastic innovator, who is dynamic, assertiveand interested in success and the status that it can bring. She may have had personalexperience of the view that worthwhile success comes only after suffering significant misfortune.Lively and entertaining, and with infectious energy, she needs change and variety in order to beat her best. Seen by many as a gifted and natural leader, she has an entrepreneurial rather thana functional management style.

In developing the success of her “vision“ she may unconsciously tend to compare herself with thesuccess of others, disassociating herself from the envy that this process may generate. Martinais an innovator, always aware of new possibilities and different ways of doing things. Learning isa life-long process for her and she is in favour of anything which will increase her mentalcapability. Martina can combine social expertise within her normally assertive behaviour. Sheusually has a theory that will explain everything. She may not necessarily prefer innovativesolutions over established ones but is adept at seeing situations from an unusual perspective.

Interacting with Others

Martina can display quick humour and optimism. She can be charming and stimulating companyand will often enthuse with others to become involved in her projects through her infectiouspersonality. She is a good innovator, negotiator, and manager. She prefers what might be, ratherthan the reality of what is already. She can take issue with both colleagues and superiors but isunlikely to bear a grudge for long. She has a tendency to blame other people for difficulties sheencounters and may sometimes dismiss others' opinions as of relatively little or no value.

She gets a constant infusion of energy from being around other energetic people, and cansuccessfully combine her talents with the strengths of others. She can be exceedingly stubbornand independent when faced with change or new ideas if they are not her own. She will introducecolleagues to all sorts of possibilities which challenge convention, but which may appear to manyas completely impractical. Visualising future programmes or outcomes that seem impossiblenow, she may well see them come to fruition months or even years later. She may harbour abelief that no one really understands her or cares about her. She may become emotional andrather vulnerable in this state.

She is noted for her innate ability to inspire and encourage others around her and exhibitsexcellent interpersonal skills. She likes to lead rather than manage, is normally fair butdemanding and will not always be willing to accept change without first knowing why. She maysometimes experience a loss of enthusiasm and energy and also may becomeuncharacteristically pensive under stress. She prefers to try to understand and relate to people'sviews rather than be judgmental of them. Martina's ingenuity, warmth and her understanding ofothers allows her to proceed through life with great confidence. She is very effective in aleadership role, able to persuade others of the value of her vision.

Decision Making

Imaginative and adaptable, Martina values inspiration above all else and has an ingenious, inventive mind. She is prepared to make high risk decisions. Carefully choosing where she willfocus her energy may help her avoid wasting her time and considerable talent. She prefers tomake decisions based on “gut feel” rather than on exhaustive and repetitive analysis. She isoutgoing, versatile and quick-witted, and may have an endless supply of solutions to whateverchallenge she finds herself in.

She is likely to exercise her intuition constantly on the most important and challenging parts of aproblem. She is more interested in the future consequences of her actions than in the presentcondition of people or projects. She enjoys the executive role and usually rises to challengesalthough she needs someone around with enough common sense to bring up overlooked factsand take care of important details. Internally motivated to achieve, Martina is a hard worker, whowhilst being prepared to listen to, and be aware of others, will invariably go it alone if all else fails.“Do it now” is her motto.

Optimistic, spontaneous, creative and confident, she has an original mind and a strong sense ofthe possible. She is constantly full of enthusiasm for new ideas. Martina expresses what shethinks are strong, decisive opinions in the hope that unresolved issues and conflicts can beconcluded quickly. She may lack sustained focus on the problem in hand. In her attempts toplease others she may make promises she cannot fulfil. Martina's natural curiosity for new ideaswill bring new and fresh ways of thinking to the group.

Possible Blind SpotsOur perceptions of self may be different to the perceptions others have of us. We project who weare onto the outside world through our “persona” and are not always aware of the effect our lessconscious behaviours have on others. These less conscious behaviours are termed “BlindSpots”. Highlight the important statements in this section of which you are unaware and test themfor validity by asking for feedback from friends or colleagues.

Martina’s possible Blind Spots:

Martina should bring a more rational pace to her work which would act as a drag on her tendencyto start and stop projects at the drop of a hat. The desire to remain open and responsive to newchallenges can make her appear rather erratic, and appear inconsiderate of the best laid plansand schedules of others. With her boldness and abundant energy, she may give the impressionthat task is significantly more important than people.

Tending to take on too much at one time she can find herself overloaded and unable to keep hercommitments. She may neglect essential preparation as she moves quickly in her zeal to take onsomething new. She can sometimes make mistakes by making decisions before receiving all theinformation. She could sometimes slow down and pay closer attention to the finer details of herprojects. While she can be charming, funny and entertaining, occasionally she gives theimpression of insincerity.

She expects to win and is very assertive in attaining outcomes despite how narrow her view maysometimes appear. Martina is often so involved in her own processes that she fails to notice whatis happening elsewhere. Her intense dislike for routine and predictable events can make itdifficult for her to notice or even acknowledge the necessary details. People can see that shedoesn't always take a rational or objective view of the world. Martina needs to work towardmaking commitments to fewer projects so she completes more of the ones she begins.

Opposite TypeThe description in this section is based on Martina's opposite type on the Insights Wheel. Often,we have most difficulty understanding and interacting with those whose preferences are differentto our own. Recognising these characteristics can help in developing strategies for personalgrowth and enhanced interpersonal effectiveness.

Recognising your Opposite Type:

Martina’s opposite Insights type is the Coordinator, Jung’s “Introverted Sensing” type.

The Coordinator is a careful, cautious, conventional person who is diplomatic and sincere.Coordinators tend to be very loyal, precise and disciplined with high standards and expectationsof self. Coordinators may appear to lack self-confidence and prefer to operate in a structured andordered manner, focusing on established guidelines rather than future possibilities.

Martina will often observe the Coordinator procrastinating on a decision until all of the facts anddetails are available. Martina may also see the Coordinator as a critical and ideological thinkerwho will be quiet and reserved around strangers. Coordinators do not like stress or chaos andtend to be rather private, requiring support and reassurance. They prefer to build closerelationships with small groups of people and like to retain the familiar and predictable. TheCoordinator becomes stubborn if pressured, particularly by Martina!

Coordinators are concerned with what is “right” and, to Martina, appear slow in decision making. They prefer a steady-paced environment with little interpersonal aggression and they tend todistrust outgoing people. They are motivated by schedule and order and are among the mostprivate of the Insights types. Martina sees the Coordinator as ever concerned with efficiency, becoming stressed when others do not stick to tightly laid down schedules and plans.
