You will note the absence of contact information for the holders of executive and appointed positions. The deci-sion to remove this information was taken because of consistent attempts by evildoers to trick our people into parting with money, thinking they are performing actions on behalf of the President or other executive members. Most of these attempts were readily apparent, but recent-ly these vermin have improved the level of sophistication of their efforts, and it was feared that ultimately one of their attempts would prove successful. You may now obtain contact information from the club website, www,jaguarcarclub.ca. Log in and go to the members list, JCCV Members List under Members Area.

I have heard that there is an ancient Chinese curse: “May you live in interesting times,” though in fact there is no known connection between the curse and China. But these are certainly interesting times, and will continue to be so even after COVID-19 wanes. Until it does, I would recommend modelling your life on the advice given by medical professionals. And we must also acknowledge that other terrible spectre stalking the land: The unspeakable horror of running out of toilet paper! Most of the available product seems to have vanished into the basements of hordes of people who are apparently under the impression that this virus acts not on their lungs, but upon the nether regions of their anatomies. Perhaps you might rush out and buy a bidet before they run out too. But though the way ahead just now is murky, this will pass and the lessons learned will stand us in good stead when the next animal virus makes the jump to humans and then from human to human. In the meantime, stay home as much as you can, watch a bit of TV, drink a bit of wine and read a good book or two. I’m up to “J” in the encyclopedia already!

The Directors and I continue to monitor the situation as COVID-19 impacts are felt more widely in our community and Canadian society at large. The Board of Directors is continuing its function by remote means in this context as we maintain overview on club issues and plans. In this regard the current abeyance of our club activities has been extended to mid-May. That said, given the current situation we are very likely going to see a further curtail-ment of our activities beyond that point. Although we here in BC appear to be benefitting from the judicious actions of our health authorities and general compliance by the populace, there is still great need of public support for mitigation measures as the period of those measures continues to be extended. It would appear that this will be a long-sustained effort. With this in mind, JOTI is now planned for July 2021 as has been previously advised, and planning arrangements in that respect have been initiated. Your support in this respect is much appreciat-ed. We have been receiving updates from the wider JCNA, and restrictions on activities of clubs across North Ameri-ca are being observed that were not the case even a short time ago as the reality of the pandemic threat set-tles on the consciousness of more people. The daily trag-ic statistics both here in our country and especially in the case of our neighbours to the south are sobering. To that extent we can take some solace in that we are taking the correct course of action in minimizing the risk to our members and to the public by our policies. The Board will continue to search for ways to maintain our members' interest through remote means, and in-deed the Growler is a major asset in that regard thanks to the efforts of our editor Malcolm. We will also look to explore other means to maintain the cohesion of the club during this demanding period of isolation using other op-tions offered by communications technologies. Better days await, but in the interim the order of the day is patience and precaution. The safety of our members and our loved ones as we pass through this ordeal is paramount. I look forward to my future messages being on happier topics in happier times. Stay safe one and all.

Part Five Alterations to the Mk 2: these have been very modest. I decided to leave the car on positive ground; it retains its one-speaker original radio (which seems to play a lot of Petula Clark). Apart from the period accessory armrest box the only modifications from this car’s original specifi-cation consist of a Pertronix ignition, an electronic SU fuel pump (both for reliability), new Dayton chrome wire wheels and Universal radial tubeless tires in 185 HR 15 size, and finally Coombs-style rear fender skirts. The orig-inal skirts were finished to the same standard as the body and are always displayed when the car is judged:

Problems: After a complete restoration there is always a settling-in period. Items that had to be addressed were few: fuel line joints needed retightening….hmmm…..I think that is it. I have put more than 10,000 miles on the car since the res-toration was completed in 2007 and there has only been one very minor mechanical failure – which happened twice, leaving me at the side of the highway. The first time, the original ignition rotor lost its locating peg – prob-ably a victim of age – the symptom being a rapidly pro-gressive loss of power and misfiring, and finally, a “failure to proceed” with a strong smell of electrical misadventure. Because of this incident I now carry a spare which proved very useful when, several years later, after a fast highway run of 175 miles and a subsequent bumper-to-bumper crawl, the car exhibited exactly the same symptoms, in-cluding, finally, the same electrical smell. This time there was even more pressure on me because the vehicle in the rear-view mirror was an ambulance! Having pulled to the side of the highway I let the car cool enough to in-spect the engine without severe skin burns. Fortified by the kind presence of another Jaguar owner who had stopped to commiserate, we removed the distributor cap, removed the rotor and “just in case” fitted the spare from the glove-box. Once the rotor was properly seated (the kind Samaritan’s act) the engine fired instantly and ran smoothly. There has been nothing else. Even the clock works…oh wait, the tachometer stopped working at one point and needed the tachometer generator replaced (with the engine in situ, this is a job for someone else…happily, I have a very competent friend who not only has the expertise but arms of the right length to perform this operation). There has been nothing else in the years since the restoration. But let’s go back for a moment to the story of the two transmissions sent to the transmission shop. The trans-mission case with the correct number was sent back to me with a report that it needed nothing except a new seal kit. But some 5+ years later, when the car finally was back in service (that is, liberated from the Inferno of Jack-the-mechanic, and after the Coachwerks magic), the trans-mission was simply not operating properly. It came out again, was sent this time to a different transmission shop. They found that - yes, you guessed it – the innards of that correct case were not from my transmission at all, but from the 200,000 + mile unit whose torque converter had been rewelded at least 3 times (!); they simply could not make it operate properly (I am abbreviating here – not so much to save you, dear reader, as to save me from un-happy memories). I decided to abandon it and I ordered a completely refurbished DG250 from Graham Whitehouse in England. Once installed, the car drove beautifully. The cost of this is something that I have chosen to relegate to the “never-open” part of my memory bank. Would I do it over again? Perhaps not. But do I regret do-ing this restoration? Not for a second. This completes Gregory’s restoration adventure. Go to the next page and see his Mk 2 where it belongs, ON THE ROAD!

Jaguar Clubs of North America Annual General Meeting Update By Carole Borgens, North West Region Director

As most events are in this time of Covid-19, the scheduled meetings in Las Vegas March 20–22 were postponed. The work, however, needed to be done, so the Board of Directors meeting agenda was completed Friday by video-conferencing. This was a 6-hour session that included Board business and a review of the AGM agenda to take place the following day. Saturday’s AGM, again by video-conferencing, was another 6 hour call with close to 80 member Delegates logging in. A 2-hour presentation on proposed Concours rule changes was scheduled for Friday in Las Vegas so a vote could be held Saturday during the AGM. The replacement session was held Sunday via video-conferencing, and included our Chief Judge Les Garbutt, also the Chief Judges from Victoria, Seattle and Portland. As it was Sunday morning and many churches were using the same system to broadcast their services, reception was poor and access a challenge, so the session was aborted and rescheduled to 8 am on Saturday, March 28. JCNA By-laws require voting on such items as dues increase, rule changes and policy to be conducted at face to face Annual General Meetings, so the current work is to ensure members are familiar with proposals. On issues such as Concours rule changes, we can be guided by the expertise of our region’s Chief Judges and vote accordingly. The in-person AGM has been rescheduled to August 21 in Columbia, South Carolina. The next quarterly Board of Directors meeting will be held June 15 by video-conferencing. Coventry Foundation continues to offer their free tool loan service to JCNA members. There is a large inventory of specialty tools on the west coast so shipping is simple. Their Archives are an amazing collection of print and video his-tory and the Technical Advice line also invaluable for specialized projects. A letter to all club presidents will be forthcoming, explaining the relationship between JCNA and the Coventry Foun-dation, and how it is in place to support the Jaguar hobby. Year-end competition awards have been mailed directly to recipients, and Special Awards have been announced and will be presented at the AGM.

Update on arrangements for

Jaguars on the Island (JOTI) 2020 I hope that you, your families, and loved ones (and Jagu-ars) are safe and well in these troubling times. The organizing JOTI Committee and your Board of Direc-tors did not make the decision to cancel Jaguars on the Island 2020 lightly. We are aware that, besides the social reconnecting with friends and the fun, there is also the competitive concours component that will be sorely missed. Many of us show our cars and compete interna-tionally and the cancellation of our event makes compet-ing at the North American level more complicated, and many might be reduced to regional-only competition this year.

Despite the disappointment the cancellation has caused, we have received many encouraging emails and notes from our own members, those of sister clubs and friends as far away as England. All this positive feedback reas-sured us that the decision to stay healthy, bend the curve, and apply common sense, as well as follow official guide-lines, was the only possible one. JCNA and our Regional Director Carole Borgens have been very understanding and supportive with regard to cancelling and rescheduling events. Competition rules have been amended to allow for a quick and hassle-free rescheduling/sanctioning of events should this be deemed safe for everyone later in the year. Meanwhile, we have been able to push all our arrange-ments for JOTI 2020 into 2021. The Grand Pacific Hotel will be our main host hotel featuring special room rates, the Friday Reception and our signature Awards Dinner. The popular Sunday Brunch will be held at the stunning Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort and Spa. Country Crepes and their food truck as well as all other vendors have agreed to be part of JOTI 2021. Next year’s dates for Jaguars on the Island are July 23–25, 2021. Let’s use this gap year to gain momentum and bring more cars to the field and to add some extra sparkle to our Jaguars and events – after all, we have to make up for the 15th anniversary celebration we had planned for this year! Stay healthy and happy.

The covid19 page Serious Stuff: Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this with others who don't under-stand. It has to do with RNA sequencing ... i.e. genetics. Seasonal flu is an "all human virus". The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the hu-man immune system. This means your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year. You get immunity two ways: through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot. Novel viruses come from animals. The WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, sometimes for years .. watching for mutations. Usually these viruses only transfer from ani-mal to animal: pigs in the case of H1N1, birds in the case of the Spanish flu. But once one of these animal viruses mutates and starts to transfer from animals to humans ... then it's a problem. Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity. The RNA sequencing of genes inside the virus isn't human, and the human immune system doesn't recognize it so we can't fight it off. Now .... sometimes the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human; for years it's only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so it can now transfer human to human. Once that happens, we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, that’s what decides how contagious, or how deadly, it's gonna be .. H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It's RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too. Fast forward. Now, here comes this Coronavirus ... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long ... but one day at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first only animals could give it to a person ... but here is the scary part ... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Sci-entists call this quick ability, "slippery". This Coronavirus, not being in any form a "human" virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity) took off like a rocket. And this was because humans have no known immunity and doctors have no known medicines for it. And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus changed itself in such a way that it causes great damage to human lungs. That's why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza ... this one is slippery AF. And it's a lung eater ... and, it's already mutated

AGAIN so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain S and strain L ... which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine. We really have no tools in our shed with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Balti-more were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu. Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed ... (honestly, I un-derstand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation... And let me end by saying ... right now it's hitting older folks harder ... but this genome is so slippery ... if it mu-tates again (and it will) who is to say what it will do next. Be smart folks ... acting like you're unafraid is so not sexy right now. From the Wolfson Medical Centre, Holon, Israel

Another covid19 page The Growler is always on the lookout for helpful sugges-tions that might benefit our club’s membership. Lois Smith has sent us this one: COVID-19 Health Advice Do you have feelings of fear for COVID-19? Do you suf-fer from fear to speak out? Do you sometimes wish you were more assertive? Do you feel stressed having to “self-isolate”? If you answered yes to any of these ques-tions, ask your doctor or pharmacist about Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon is the safe, natural way to feel better and more confident about combatting COVID-19. It can help ease you out of your feelings of inadequacy and let you tell the world that you’re ready and willing to do just about anything. You will notice the benefits of Cabernet Sauvignon almost immediately and, with a regimen of regular doses, you can overcome any obstacles that prevent you from living the life you want to live – the life that COVID-19 paranoia is denying you. Cabernet Sauvignon may not be right for every-one. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use it. However, women who wouldn’t mind nursing or be-coming pregnant are encouraged to try it. Side effects may include: dizziness, nausea, vomiting, incarcera-tion, loss of motor control, loss of clothing, loss of money, loss of virginity, delusions of grandeur, table dancing, headache, dehydration, dry mouth, and a desire to sing Karaoke and play all night rounds of Strip Poker. Warnings: The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may make you think you are whispering when you are not. The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may cause you to tell your friends over and over again that you love them. The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may cause you to think you can sing. The consumption of Cabernet Sauvignon may create the illusion that you are tougher, smarter, faster and better looking than most people. Life is a Cabernet, old chum! § I needed to go out to buy some groceries the other day, so I checked a website that offered advice on any protec-tive gear I might need. It said that for casual encounters while shopping, all I needed was a mask and latex gloves. So I donned these items and set out. You may imagine my embarrassment when I entered the super-market and observed that everyone else was wearing clothes!

JLR To the rescue! To do what it can to help hospitals and other essential medical services to cope with the challenges and influx of patients related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jaguar Land Rover is putting company vehicles including the new Land Rover Defender to work to deliver protective equip-ment to hospitals in Toronto and is putting a fleet of De-fenders originally set to be driven by journalists around the globe to work for the Red Cross at home in the UK. “The extraordinary health emergency we are going through requires everyone’s commitment,” said Wolfgang R. Hoffmann, President of Jaguar Land Rover Canada. “We want to do anything we can to help the community.” So the company is making both vehicles and drivers available as part of a new program to collect PPE from those who have it but don’t need it now to those who need it urgently right away. Personal protective equipment that’s needed by hospi-tals to protect staff and patients from COVID-19 includes masks, gloves, face shields, and other critical items. JLR notes that there are many businesses who also use those items but have more stock than they need because of closures, overstock, and slower business. Through www.theppedrive.com, unused equipment can be donat-ed and Land Rover will send a team to get it. Tattoo par-lours, nail salons, dental, veterinary, and cosmetic clinics, as well as private labs, could all have this PPE on hand. “This is out there in society,” said Warner. “We need to gather it and distribute it to the places that need it.” Further abroad, Land Rover revealed on Twitter that it was planning to lend a fleet of Defender SUVs to partners

like the Red Cross. These are vehicles that were bound for the company’s press fleet, sent off to dramatic loca-tions for dramatic driving and photos of mud splashed around. Instead, now, they’ll be put to use helping out in a tough spot. Something Land Rovers have been doing for decades. On their Twitter account, the company said that it would be providing 143 vehicles globally to “support the true heroes” of the pandemic. 105 of those are to the In-ternational Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and of those 57 Defenders were sent to the British Red Cross and other Land Rover vehicles are be-ing used by services there to provide in-home COVID-19 testing. In addition to the vehicles supplied to collect PPE in Canada, JLR has delivered 18 Jaguar and Land Rover SUVs to the Spanish Red Cross to “reach people in espe-cially vulnerable areas.” Jaguar Land Rover Canada said that while their initial PPE project is in Toronto only, using a Discovery and a Defender 110, “we hope to roll it out in other markets.”

Saturday’s AGM, again by video-conferencing, was another 6-hour call with close to 80 member Delegates logging in. JCNA By-laws require voting on such items as dues increase, rule changes and policy to be conducted at face

to face Annual General Meetings, so the current work is to ensure members are familiar with proposals. On is-sues such as Concours rule changes, we can be guided by the expertise of our region’s Chief Judges and vote accordingly. Their Archives are an amazing collection of print and vid-eo history and the Technical Advice line is also invaluable for specialized projects. A letter to all club presidents will be forthcoming, ex-plaining the relationship between JCNA and the Coventry Foundation, and how it is in place to support the Jaguar hobby. Year-end competition awards have been mailed direct-ly to recipients, and Special Awards have been an-nounced and will be presented at the AGM.

I n recent months, some of the world’s most exotic, ex-citing and intriguing new cars have rolled into ETI’s

parking lot for review, including the McLaren 720s, Bent-ley Bentayga Speed, Porsche 718 Spyder and Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S. But hands down, the car that got editor-in-chief Slavnich most excited is the Jaguar I-Pace. And ‘excited’ is actually an understatement here. This review can actually be summed up with three short answers to three big questions. Is this the most important Jaguar yet? Is this the best Jaguar yet? And is this the finest battery electric vehicle one can buy? To those pressing Qs the answers are quite simple: maybe; quite possibly; definitely! But there’s copy space to fill so let’s try to justify those conclusions. On every level, the I-Pace is technologically dazzling. From its compact crossover footprint, JLR’s first BEV is one joyful drive – granted it doesn’t have the dy-namics of a sports car (how would it anyway?) – but it handles so much better than small SUVs and large se-dans. Hell, it even grips corners better than some so-called ‘fast’ hatchbacks. The performance comes from two in-house Jaguar-designed permanent magnet synchronous electric motors integrated with the front and rear axles and push-ing out 400ps and a staggering 696Nm torque, which means the I-Pace reaches 60mph from standstill in just 4.5 seconds. In fact, it’s so rapid that we left some AMG E-Class at the lights on one particular stretch of the road during our testing. Times are changing in the automotive world and nothing sums up that transition better than a crossover BEV leaving behind a fast German sedan. In fact, the I-Pace has nearly the same amount of power as Jaguar’s F-Type SVR supercharged V8. But of course super-hot performance isn’t the primary development pillar behind the I-Pace: getting ahead of its German rivals and being first to market with an outstanding and high-tech battery electric vehicle with zero emissions was what Jaguar was striving for. And it’s 10 out of10 for effort, execution and end-product. A 90kWh battery pack planted within the wheelbase of the I-Pace provides the vehicle with a low center of gravity and naturally benefits overall driving dy-namics. It also plays a central role in delivering a WLTP combined range of 415km (258 miles) and aside from one very cold morning start, when temperatures sank to -3°C, more or less one real-world kilometer equated to one I-Pace kilometer – and that was a worst-case scenario. A typical commute from ETI Towers to home is 24km for Slavnich and yet the I-Pace range would drop from 230km to 215km. And then there’s the inside. The I-Pace has one of the most contemporary, modern, chic and sleek interiors around with beautiful push/pull buttons for heat-ing, a high-tech dual-screen touchscreen that controls just about everything, and a minimalist sweeping cabin design style. It’s the closest you’ll come to ‘driving’ your iPhone 10. Our I-Pace cost just under £75,000 (US$98,000) which, granted, is a lot of money for a car like this, but as Slavnich tweeted, “I’d actually buy one of these”… No wonder he’s applying for a loan!

Ian Callum Collection to be Featured at London Concours 2020 The London Concours, presented by Mon-tres Breguet, has announced the second of its special feature displays – The Collector – which each year shines a light on one individual’s personal car collection. This year, London Concours’ Collector is none other than famed automotive designer, Ian Callum CBE. Ian has been at the forefront of automotive design for decades, penning designs for the likes of Ford, TWR Design, Jaguar Land Rover and is a founding member of new design and engineering business – CAL-LUM. Having designed veritable icons like the Aston Mar-tin Vanquish and most Jaguar products from the early 2000s until 2019, Ian’s own car collection is a fascinating insight into his own personal milestone moments in car design and engineering. Ian will showcase his very own Jaguar XJC, Porsche 911 (993), 1932 Ford Model B and more; each subtly modified by the man himself to empha-size their design. However, most cars in Ian’s collection aren’t as they rolled off the factory floor; nearly all have been subtly modified by the man himself to emphasize the beauty of their individual designs. A 1976 Jaguar XJ Coupé, a car Callum con-siders to be one of the most beautiful cars ever designed by Jaguar and his favourite alongside the Jaguar Mk2, is one of the last cars designed by Jaguar founder, Sir Wil-liam Lyons. The pillarless doors are subtly modified to emphasize the Coupé’s iconic profile.

O ur Regional Director, Carole Borgens, has sent us an interesting proposal: “What I have is an idea for a section of the Growler which I would call, Leaper Language, Leaper Logic or ? It is a whimsical view of our Jaguar car Leapers and how they bring smiles to people as they travel. I keep a knitted sweater, a Leaper Cozy if you will, on my XJ8 throughout winter, and have various photos of it including a recent one where it's covered in ice. Contrast that with the photo of a couple of days ago, sweater off as it's now Spring, but the Leaper is wearing a surgical mask. I would refer to them as something like Winter Ready and COVID Ready, or ???? To use this as a stimulus for members to submit their own photos and whimsical ideas for future Growlers is the idea. I can tell you that all winter the sweater brings smiles to people's faces as they see it while crossing a street, walking by in a parking lot, stopped at a light beside me, etc. It's like a happy face on wheels”.

So, whadda ya say? If you’re stuck at home right now you will have time to dig out some pictures suitable for

Leaper Logic, or Leaper Lan-guage, or Whimsy in Leap-erland or another suitable title.

According to Jaguar Land Rover’s latest official fig-ures, Jaguar sold 161,601 cars globally last year and pro-duced a further 6251 at its joint venture in China. That excluding-China figure is 10.6% down on 2018’s total of 180,833 cars, and 161,000 sales across six model lines remain a marginal proposition. The biggest loser was the XF, which fell 50% to 15,628 units in 2019. That was followed by the XE, which was down 15% to 25,951 units. Although it was on run-out, the XJ managed to clock up 4017 sales. Jaguar’s biggest seller was the F-Pace but, even so, that was down 14% from 56,563 units in 2018 to 48,484 last year. The E-Pace managed to edge up 2% to 42,939 units. Although 2019 was the first full sales year for the I-Pace, its sales of 17,355 were described by one of the suppliers for the car last month as “rather less” than had been planned for. Finally, F-Type sales slipped by 9% to 7227 units in 2019. Including the XJ, Jaguar sold 45,596 saloons and 108,778 SUVs in 2019, each across three model lines. The remaining was 7227 F-Type sports cars. Clearly, Jaguar remains a very small brand by global standards, but by the end of next year it will have the electric XJ, the new J-Pace flagship and a thoroughly refreshed F-Pace and E-Pace, all of which is significant investment. Perhaps there’s now a pause on decisions relating to the XE, XF and F-Type while bosses monitor a new-car market that’s in the middle of huge politically driven changes. From Autocar § Jaguar Land Rover could be about to invest £1bn in UK electric vehicle production, according to fresh reports. Consumer publication Autocar says sources at the firm have confirmed three new all-electric models will be pro-duced at its Castle Bromwich facility, which is set for a total overhaul as a specialist EV centre. Jaguar has previously announced plans for a battery-powered version of its next XJ saloon, with confirmation this model would be built in Castle Bromwich. According to Autocar, this will be joined by Land Rover’s rumoured ‘Road Rover’ crossover along with a flagship Jaguar ‘J-Pace’ SUV. Despite these three new models being produced in the UK, it’s said production of JLR’s current sole electric offering — the Jaguar I-Pace — will remain in Austria. Last year, a six-week closure period at the facility was undertaken to facilitate production of vehicles based on JLR’s new ‘MLA’ platform. These new EVs are likely to be based on this architecture, which is able to accommo-date internal combustion engines as well as electric powertrains. Speaking in 2019 following the confirmation that the XJ would be built in Castle Bromwich, Ralph Speth, Jagu-ar Land Rover chief executive, said: “The future of mobili-ty is electric and as a visionary British company, we are committed to making our next generation of zero-emission vehicles in the UK.” ‘We are co-locating our electric vehicle manufacture, Electronic Drive Units and battery assembly to create a powerhouse of electrification in the Midlands.” From the Dundee Courier

Our monthly dose of corporate stuff Jaguar Land Rover has suspended all production at its plants across the UK, in response to the spread of coronavirus. It plans to resume on 20 April, but said this could change. Its decision is part of the company's plan to "safeguard its business continuity". The Coventry-based car-maker has plants across the UK, including Castle Bromwich, Solihull, and Halewood. From the BBC §

Report: J-Pace, Road Rover to Join Electric Jaguar

XJ; XF and XE in Limbo A brace of road-oriented electric crossovers will join the upcoming XJ at Jaguar Land Rover’s historic Castle Bromwich assembly plant, Autocar reports. The UK plant, formerly home to wartime aircraft production, will pivot to EVs with the help of a $1.2 billion investment. With Jag pulling the bulk of its volume from crosso-vers, the addition of a larger crossover is a no-brainer; meanwhile, Land Rover’s shadowy Road Rover is said to be a go — minus the name itself. That leaves the slow-selling XE and XF sedans as the big question marks in the brand’s future lineup. Company sources tell the publication that J-Pace and Road Rover production will commence by the end of next year, with the newly electric (and quite large) XJ sched-uled to appear before the end of 2020. All three models share JLR’s new MLA platform, capable of accommodat-ing a range of powertrains. That architecture will allow the automaker to tailor the models for different markets. While European and Chi-nese buyers are hot on EVs (a position they’ve been strong-armed into by zealous governments), most North American buyers would still prefer a gasoline or hybrid option. The J-Pace will go up against premium midsizers like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. Land Rover’s Road Rover is said to be a low-riding affair that puts style ahead of off-roadability, but not at the expense of useable interior volume. This model is said to be EV-only, whereas the J-Pace — a model whose styl-ing reportedly diverges significantly from the existing I-Pace EV — will likely offer alternate powertrains. As for the compact XE and XF sedans, both rare sights on Western roads, Jaguar brass remain on the fence as to their future. Both sedans hail from Castle Bromwich; options include swapping the models to EV powerplants — a move that isn’t likely to boost sales — or combining them into a sole crossover-type model. There’s also the possibility that they’ll disappear at the end of their life cycle. The “quietly profitable” F-Type sports car is said to be safe for the time being. From The Truth About Cars §

FOR SALE 2003 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas This is a gorgeous example of perhaps one of the very best cars Jaguar has ever made – the X308 saloon (as it is called in the UK). This is the last of the most beautiful iterations of the XJ theme that began in 1968. This is a highly collectible Jaguar that is the desirable long wheelbase version, with a huge abundance of rear seat legroom. The car presents in Jaguar sapphire blue over ivory leather. It has an abundance of lovely wood including folding picnic trays in the rear. Driving this car is like riding on a cloud – it is smooth and powerful and handles very nicely, and has new tires and a new professionally installed headliner very recently. It also has the newer thermostat housing. It has been very reliable since its purchase in late 2007 with 53,000kms on it. The car now has only 79,000kms. Due to its future collectible status and its extremely low kms, the car is priced at $13,700CDN. The car is located in Cowichan Bay.
