UNITED NATIONS PILGRIMAGE FOR YOUTH The UN PHgrimage for Youth for 2003 is now over and the families and friends in attendance

ARTHRITIS COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES The Arthritis Committee is very active We meet about every

ther month and have great support from our membership We are committed to helping those with arthritis young and old

O ur Past Grand Master Joseph Strausser had Camp JRA as one of h is projects for his term He invited Lyn Boocock-Taylor President of the Eastern PA Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation to attend his testimonial dinner on October 18th and presented her with a check for $1553682 for Camp JRA As part of the evenings entertainment guests were able to donate money to sign Joes Dance Card for the opportunity to dance with Joe to also raise money for his project Lyn expresed her thanks verbally and the campers and their parents expressed their appreciation by sending mall gifts to the dinner for the attendees This was a pleasure surprise and much appreciated by those present Camp JRA is one of the activities the PA Arthritis Committee raises money for each year

Seventh District of Allegheny County journeyed by special street car Tuesday November 20 to Turtle Creek where they were guests of Westinghouse Lodge No 1177 A brief business session was held during which Bunola Lodge No 552 was selected as host for the meeting to be held on December 7

WL Heiston G R had charge of the entertainment program Selections were given by the trio from Glassport Lodge No 147 and the singers were greeted with much applause An address was made by George B McDowelll Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania in which he outlined the work of the year AN Dick of Pittsburgh PGM spoke on the new Rebekah home for which ground was broken a few days before The Rev Mr Charlesworth of Letsdale Lodge No 57 and the Rev WT Hartley of Elizabeth Lodge No 209 spoke on the principles of the Order and the work being done

No 348 on Friday December 21st A splendid entertainment is being arranged and a treat will be give each child

Besides the usual donation of a liberal supply offruits jellies and groceries Clover Lodge added a cash contribution of $16050 to the Ben A von Home

Fellows and Rebekahs banquet was held at the Cochranville Fire Hall with approximately 100 in attendance The Fire Companys Ladies Auxiliary served a roast beef dinner featuring their famed Creamed Mushrooms

A 60-year service pin was awarded to Brother D Walter Esbenshade and a Past Grand pin was presented the departing Noble Grand Dale E Binkley The new officers of Hebron Lodge were introduced with a special acknowledgment to the new memshybers received in the Lodge during the past year Brothers

Rebekah officers were also introduced with a special greeting to seven new members Hazel Binkley Celia Caudell Midge Wood Edward Binkley and Ann Binkley

Included in the guests were the Grand Chaplain of the PA IOOF our own Edward Binkley and his wife Louella the Grand Conductor Paul Cooke and hi wife Winnifred and our own District Deputy Grand Master Robert Swinehart and his escort Midge Wood

The Brothers of Hebron Lodge presented the Grand Chaplain Edward Binkley a Parker pen for jotting down spiritual thoughts and meditations during his journeys around the State visiting other Lodges

Entertainment consisted of an excellent Ventriloquist followed by door prizes

Sunday November 19- The Grand Lodge Officers ofPA IOOF conducted the Sunday service in the Chapel of the Middletown Odd Fellows Home in Middletown PA at 200 PM The Chapel was well filled with Officers and Members of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs from Lodges throughout the State They shared with the residents of the Home a message delivered by the Grand Chaplain Edward Binkley

Following the service a cooks tour was conducted of the new Odd Fellows and Rebekahs State Headquarters located on the ground of the Home in Middletown

Cussewago Lodge 108 Independent Order of Odd Fellows awarded veteran Life Memberships were conferred upon Carl Miller and Howard Smock at the October 13th meeting

Presenting the Honors was Herman L Schlott Jr General Master of the Grand Lodge ofPennsyivania Independent Order of Odd Fellows

Carl Miller Cochranton has been a member for nearly 77 years He joined the Odd Fellows Lodge February 241927 He has served in most elected offices in the cochranton Lodge before consolidatshying with Cussewago Lodge Meadville

Howard smock also from Cochranton joined the Union Center Lodge in 1937 He has been a member for 67 years Union Center Lodge 1158 consolidated with Cochranton in 1963 He has served as Noble Grand and other elected offices in both the Union Center and cochranton Lodges before consolidatingwith Cussewago Lodge Meadville

Brother Peterson was raised in the Odd Fellows Home MeadVIlle until he was 18 He graduated from Meadville High School in 1935 He served on the Board of Directors of the Meadville Home for many years and was a strong support of it

He served in the US Army in Europe After WWII he was a mechanic until his discharge in 1946

He was employed at American Viscose later Avtex Fibers and retired after 38 years

He was a member of Park Congregational Church An active member of Cussewago Lodge 108 Meadville for more than 40 years He enjoyed repairing sma[l engines and working word search puzzles

Survivors inelude three daughters Marjory Ann Peterson Westminster CA Linda Lorigo Meadville and Carolyn Crandall of Conneautville four grandchildren two brothers Lawrence of Seal Beach CA and Howard of Ocala FL and two great-grandshychildren

Erie PA died Thursday October 16 2003 at his home He was born May 221920 in Fairview Township son of the late

Albert and Esther Von Treptow He was employed by Keystone Brass Works and also the Waste

Water Treatment Plant in Erie He served in the US Army during World War II throughout the

European Theater of operations He received the Purple Heart and was discharged in 1945 He was in the Pioneer Odd Fellows house in Meadville as a youth from 1926 to 1934

He was initiated into Lakeside Lodge 111 in Fairview PA on June 5 1951 Lakeside Lodge 111 consolidated with Nickel Plate Lodge 1125 on April 24 1996 Wilbert was a member of the Odd Fellows for fifty-two years

Wilbert served on the board ofdirectors of the Pioneer Home in Meadville for fifteen years He did a lot of work for the home while a director He cared very much for the home because of his association with the home as a youth

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Edith and a brother Leroy

He is survived by his second wife Caroline two daughters Sandra Wadsworth of Erie Rose Ann Miller of Clarksburg Ten shynessee and his stepson Sean Rainey of Erie Also survived by his sister Ruth Baker of Conneaut OH
