March 2012 National Chevy AssociationTM 1

Hi from Nat’l. Chevy, Our mild winter continues this year. We just got about 3” of heavy, wet stuff but haven’t seen more than a dusting for quite a while. I think the guys that plow snow to make a little extra money are glad to see this. Not many snowmobiles being hauled up and down the freeways either, as there is nowhere to ride their sleds. We have a trail not far from our house and can hear them if we’re outdoors, but the trail is just pavement. Paul and I had a nice trip to Pomona this year. The weather was good, but overcast and there were a lot of vendors, show cars and people walking around. We ended up parking a long way from the show entrance so it was a long walk. I wanted to take pictures of the show and for sale cars, but when we were ready to do so I realized the camera was still in the car and neither of us volunteered to make the trip back to the car, so we left without any pictures. Sorry – I planned to put them in the newsletter. We’ve been keeping busy here at the shop. Orders are good and we’re trying to keep inventory up so all is well and mostly normal. We’ve been trying to clean out some buildings a bit and get them organized so things are easier to find and we have more space for used parts that we’re trying to get listed on the website. The guys got a lot of cars parted out during our long fall last year, so there are a lot of parts to be cleaned and listed. It’s good to have too much to do rather than too little. I’m ready for some pictures of your cars for the newsletter. I know it’s winter in some places, but I need pic-tures and articles to keep the newsletter fresh. Please help if you can. I really appreciate it. ‘Til next time .......

Cover CarDear Sir, I am a current member of the National Chevy Association, however, it appears that you have used my wife’s first name rather than mine. She originally requested a catalog on my behalf and mistakenly used her name instead of mine. I would greatly appreciate if you can correct this error and include me in your list of new members. Please send all publications, including your newsletter to Frank J. Cardinale. Also, I have an article for your newsletter regarding my 1953 Chevy Sport Coupe with pictures. I hope it is worthy of your publication. Please note that there will be a separate email for the photographs. You can decide which ones are best for your letter, that is if you decide to use my article. If not, I enjoy your newsletter and will be ordering many parts through your catalog. I am a current member of the National Chevy Association and would like to tell you a little about my car. I acquired my car, a 1953 Chevy BelAir Sports Coupe, in June of 2009, after months of searching. While scanning Craig’s List one evening, I came across a 1953 Chevy BelAir Sports Coupe similar to my first car and the one that I used to attend Community College in the early 60s. Like many of us, our cars act like time machines that enable us to revisit the past and bring back so many memories of a happier time. Although my original Chevy was a 1954 BelAir Sedan, the ‘53 Sport Coupe, I believe, is a step above the ‘54 in that hardtops are becoming more rare as they made only approximately 99,000 1953 Chevy Sport Coupes. And, as our younger generation might say, “they look real cool.” The little ‘53 is stock-original, having only 84,000 miles on the odometer and it runs great. I intend, however, to install a dual exhaust system from National Chevy Association. This should give it a little more power to accelerate into today’s high-speed traffic. I retired from 32 years of Law Enforcement, and like many of us, our cars act like a window into the past. Although I don’t drive it as much as I would like to, I enjoy just looking at it and tinkering with it. The little ‘53 is mostly in stock original condition, however, some parts should be replaced, meaning of course, I will be ordering many of my parts through the National Chevy Association’s parts catalog. This summer my wife, Carol, and I intend on driving the Chevy as much as possible. As we have retired into the Gold Country foothills of the Sierras in Northern California where the climate and scenery is superb. I have had three prior mid 50s and mid 60s Oldsmobiles, all restored, but they did not evoke the memories like “the little ‘53.”
