where In the world Is still awake still! From?
Here are a few facts about STILL AWAKE STILL! to familiarize you with the show and build excitement around your upcoming visit:
• STILL AWAKE STILL! is based on the bedtime story I’m Still Awake, Still! by Elizabeth Honey and Sue Johnson. Honey is the composer and musical director and Johnson is the lyricist of this production. Their story is inspired by the daily challenge faced by parents of putting little ones to sleep.
• The set of STILL AWAKE STILL! appears very simple at first. But like magic, the entire show emerges from beneath the lid of a grand piano!
• Jump Leads is a Melbourne-based non-profit arts organization that supports innovative projects by independent artists. They initiate, produce and manage original works across many art forms.
• Fun Facts for your Students! Did you know...- Some people dream only in black and white, while about
seventy percent of people dream in color.- Humans spend a third of their lives sleeping!
Getting kids to sleep can be rough and tough, but not for Miss Ivory Tinklefinger! With nothing but a great grand piano and her sweet singing voice, the famous Queen of Sleep can calm the rowdiest of children, that is, until "treble" ensues... Much to her dismay and to the audience's delight, her piano produces more than just notes at this particular performance. Commissioned by the Sydney Opera House, STILL AWAKE STILL! is a marvelously madcap cabaret for students that will have you encoring, not snoring!
• If you count sheep to help you fall asleep, you'd be well rested in Australia! The country's sheep population is more than seven times its human population.
• Under local Melbourne law, it is illegal to sing a rude or bawdy song within earshot of another person. Luckily, the songs in STILL AWAKE STILL! are neither of those things.

A Cabaret is a form of theatrical entertainment made up of a variety of acts, including skits, songs, satire and improvisations. Cabaret originated in France as a way for poets, artists and composers to share their work and ideas. Over time, cabaret has developed into its own art form. STILL AWAKE STILL! is a cabaret-style musical comedy show, where the actors perform a variety of musical acts linked together by the theme of sleep.
FarCe is a style of comedy in which exaggerated characters and improbable plots combine for the sake of inciting laughter. STILL AWAKE STILL! is a high-energy farcical performance that will have your students laughing all the way back to school.
Prior to exploring STILL AWAKE STILL! with your students, find out how much they already know about cabaret and farce. In addition, allow them to explore the theme of sleep. Use the Prior Knowledge questions below, and the Creativity Page handout (next page) to get a sense of your students’ understanding of the art forms and themes in the show. You may be surprised by how much they already know, and in the process of exploring these areas, you’ll spark their curiosity about the show and enhance their anticipation for the trip.
