Th e Hemisaurus is a monster on the track and last weekend it proved it again, this time in Saska-toon. After taking a couple years away from the track, Greg Benzon and his crew of Wendy and Ty Benzon, Clayton Brown, Tammy Tay-lor, Perry Poroznuk and Lorne Ell were back on the track August 23, and they were ying. Benzon had the Hemisaurus out last season in Edmonton on testing day, and earlier this summer he was in Th ree Hills for the air-port run. Th is was the rst time he had been on a dedicated grippy drag strip in some time, and it was time to put the ham-
mer down. On August 23, they were among 16 blown alcohol cars from Can-ada and the US at Th e Big One at the Sas-katchewan International Raceway.
We set it to kill, said Benzon, explaining this means dialing in the blown alcohol altered Bantam funny car up to its maximum 1,700 horsepower. While the track had lots of rubber laid down to keep the tires
gripping, it was pretty bumpy and Benzon ad-mits he had to lift o the throttle a couple times to keep control. Despite this, he quali ed with the fastest time of 7.31 at 184 MPH. Benzon won his sec-ond race, sending him to the nals. In the cham-pionship race, they were beat by a car from Mon-tana. Benzon is very happy with how the car per-formed. It was a compet-itive eld and most driv-ers were running similar set ups, but with a larger blower. Right now he says his car is built to run in the 6.90 range, and he is not in a hurry to up-grade. Th is is the end of the racing season for Ben-zon and his team.

Life is full of doubt. Ev-eryone experiences it at one time or another. And it can involve a multitude of topics from a trivial purchase with little con-sequence to something much larger that involves people and can seriously change the paths of the lives of those involved. At Rosebud Th eatre this fall, Doubt: A Parable graces the Opera House stage and lets audiences focus on one particular case of doubt and make their own decisions about the events that unfurl. When a conservative and traditional nun has suspicions about a new priest at the school pay-ing too much attention to one troubled student, she launches a crusade to ex-pose the truth whatever the cost. Secrets unfold with shocking suspense in this Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning play, which in 2008 also became an Academy Award-nom-inated movie starring Meryl Streep, Phillip Sey-mour-Ho man, and Amy
Adams. Director Morris Ert-man comments, Th is is an amazing play about more than what meets the eye. Its about suspi-cion, ulterior motives, and how decisions a ect peoples lives. It asks dif- cult questions of the au-dience about what they would do in similar situ-ations. Th is may only be a one-act play, but the sec-ond act begins when you get in the car for the drive home and start discuss-ing the story you just saw and the decisions made by each of the characters. Th e show features some well-known Rose-bud faces and is perfectly cast according to Ertman. Nathan Schmidt Fiddler on the Roof, Freuds Last Session plays the charis-matic and very modern Father Flynn, and he will capture our sympathies immediately. Jeany Van Meltebeke Fiddler on the Roof, Th e Diary of Anne Frank plays the tradition-al nun at the centre of the investigation, and she is so sympathetic as a person, we will nd ourselves on-side with her as well. And
then theres Heather Pat-tengale Marys Wedding, We Wont Pay! We Wont Pay!, and Our Town, play-ing a young nun teacher who is caught in the middle. She is an inno-cent foil that keeps both Father Flynn and Sister Aloysius accountable to a truth were aching to know. Rounding out the cast is Lennette Randall, a recent graduate of Rose-bud School of the Arts, playing the mother of a young disadvantaged boy who may be the centre of
the trouble. Doubt: A Parable plays at Rosebud Th eatre from September 19 to Oc-tober 25, Wednesdays, Th ursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and includes a delicious bu et meal at the Rosebud Mercantile before the show. Mati-nees and evening perfor-mances are available. For more information and reservations, visit www.rosebudtheatre.com or contact the Box O ce at 1-800-267-7553.

Locals can routinely see dinosaurs through-out their day, and most have probably been to the Royal Tyrrell Mu-seum numerous times, but for the winners of CTVs Canada AM Digging in the Bad-lands contest, its all new and wonderful. Ive always seen di-nosaurs on t.v. and read about them, but to see them in person - its eye opening. Its amazing, said Dale Williams. Dale and Linda Wil-liams with sons Mat-thew, 13, and Alex 10, from Pools Cove,
Newfoundland, were in town this week enjoy-ing their prize. It was so neat com-ing down into the val-ley, said Linda. Hills! Dale added its quite the experience driving on the atlands, Its so vast. Th e family arrived Monday, August 25, and were kept busy en-joying the local attrac-tions. Th eir Tuesday trip to the Royal Tyrrell in-cluded a dig and behind the scenes tour with the museums Dr. Don Henderson. Linda shared a picture of the fossil, ten-year-old Alex unearthed on
the dig - a clear cross-section of a pine cone. Dad Dale enjoyed the behind the scenes tour immensely, appreciat-ing that he got to try out the air brush tool used for wearing away rock around a fossil. Th e family also vis-ited reptile world, and Alex had a small al-bums worth of photos on his phone he kindly shared. Wednesdays sched-uled tour was to the Atlas Coal Mine, the Hoodoos, and the East Coulee School Muse-um. Towards the end of the familys day, Linda said the kids started asking if they get to go in the hotel pool. Th e kids love the wa-terslide, and Linda said shed never been on one before, but gave it a try. She ended up tiring herself out on it. Th ursday the Wil-liams headed for Brooks and Dinosaur Provincial Park, and then it was o to Cal-gary for Friday. Th e Williams were considering visiting the Calgary Zoo, with Linda adding that get-ting in some shopping would be nice, espe-cially with fewer taxes in Alberta. Th e family ew back home Friday, and in that wonderful New-foundland style, they said to let them know if ever we headed out their way to visit.
(l-r) Matthew, Alex, Dale and Linda Williams, winners of CTVs Canada AM Digging in the Badlands contest, were greeted by Tourism President Bob Long. CTV was here in May to help launch the Canadian Badlands marketing campaign.

Contest winners amazed...
Summer day camp hits up ValleyDroos, a summer day camp based in Calgary, visited Drumheller for one out of their eighteen planned trips. This weeks theme for the camp was Swamp Monsters, and what better place to pursue creatures from the deep than a town swamped in prehistoric history?
The group sought out various kid-friend-ly hot spots around town, including the Tyrrell Museum, Reptile World, and the Worlds Largest Dinosaur. At the end of their busy day of exploring, the kids cooled off in the towns splash park.

Colour a new twist on 70s Dodge DartDelias Doug Greer displays his 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger at Delias Show n Shine Satur-day, August 2, as part of the town's Centennial. Greer bought the car in the early 1980s from a friend in Calgary for $2,600, which he tells us was also the price the car sold for new in 1970. He replaced the stock 340 engine with a new 413 stroker V8 engine, bring-ing the cars horsepower up to 500. The original black with red stripe body was repainted lemon twist by Fred Korroll in Hanna, and the original vinyl hardtop has also been re-done. A friend of Greers in Red Deer restored the interior about three years ago, and all the guages on the dash were upgraded because the original guages werent accurate. Greer says he is still working on the car.

A DVSS sta member has been gearing up for the Tough Mudder ob-stacle course this week-end. R y a n Hatch is on a team of 11 that i n c l u d e s c u r r e n t and former residents , who will be taking part in the Sep-tember 6 & 7 Tough M u d d e r event in Drumhell-er. P r e p a -ration for Hatch has i n c l u d e d r u n n i n g and lift-ing weights that are part of his regular tness routine. Hatch said he wasted no time joining up to
tackle the Tough Mud-der obstacle course. As soon as we found out, myself and Brian Olsen - who grew up here in Drumheller - the two of us signed up in-stantly when we could,
we were so excited to do it, said Hatch. H e s done ob-s t a c l e c o u r s e s on a much s m a l l e r scale, such as the Car-bon Mud S t o m p , but has not been on a course of this size before. I just love the challenge. Its a new kind of
challenge, and itll be fun, Hatch said. Hes known about the
Tough Mudder events for a long time, hearing about it when hes been out taking part in mara-thons and other races, but never had a chance to take part it one until it
came to Drumheller. Electroshock, an ob-stacle where participants get electrocuted, is the obstacle he tells us that him and others are wor-ried about. But he said the most important thing that hes heard from people who have been in Tough Mudder is to go out and have fun. My wife thinks Im nuts, but, she knows that I love this kind of stu , so shes supportive. Hatch said the kids are waiting to hear the sto-ries when he returns to school on Monday.
For local mom Kadena Pierce, the Drumheller Tough Mudder event will be her second. Th e rst course she took on was the course in Whistler, B.C. in June, 2013. Kadenas older sister had been in a couple of Tough M u d d e r s and en-c o u r a g e d her sister to join. W h e n we rst showed our Mom the video, she thought we were cra-zy. Still does, too, said Pierce. Pierce trained hard for her rst Tough Mudder, going to the gym 5/6 days a week, sometimes twice a day, because she didnt want to just nish, she wanted to feel good about it, too. Th is time around is a
little di erent for Pierce. Although shes been taking part in di erent sports, Pierce hasnt had extra time for Tough Mudder training be-cause of regular family and work life demands.
Shes not concerned b e c a u s e her sister d o e s n t s p e c i f i -cally train for Tough M u d d e r events and a l w a y s does really well. Pierce is on a team of seven that in-
cludes co-workers and out-of towners. Arctic Enema is the obstacle that Pierce is the least looking forward to. Th e obstacle is two large sea-cans lled with water and hundreds of pounds of ice, where Mudders have to sub-
merge themselves to get through to the end of the obstacle. Last year, it was the second obstacle of the day - it was really nerve wracking. Th ere was a girl in front of me being medically rescued out, and Im thinking sweet, my turn, describes Pierce.
Shes looking forward to both the fun and chal-lenge of tackling the Tough Mudder course, and all the camaraderie that goes along with it. She said she annoyed her sister last year by re-peating the phrase no whining, but she thinks its important to have a positive outlook. You pay to get your butt kicked, so dont whine about it. Have fun.
Drumheller Teacher Ryan Hatch is hyped about tak-ing part in his fi rst Tough Mudder this weekend.
Drumhellers Kadena Pierce is looking forward to taking on her second Tough Mud-der September 6.

Birthday: April 8thOccupation: Business Manager, Royal Tyrrell Museum Co-operating Society - the non-profi t that supports the museum. What do you enjoy the most about doing that? Its a great place to work and the people. How long have you lived in the valley?Just over six years.Where did you move from?Hanna. Why did you move?A lot of diff erent reasons. What do you enjoy most about living here?Thats hard - there are so many things to enjoy! What do you miss most about Hanna? Its a wonderful community, I miss both the people and living there. What do you like to do in your downtime?Whats downtime? (laughs). I do volunteer for several local organizations, and I sing
with a band (Roadside Attraction), and Im a voracious reader.Whats your biggest volunteer commitment right now?Tough Mudder. Ive been working on it steadily since March. Are you entered in Tough Mudder? No. I dont run, unless its
away from a spider.Whats your favourite music to listen to?My taste in music is so diverse, its hard to pick one genre (and it depends on my mood). What would
be the best theme song for your life right now?Im in a Hurry by Alabama. What is something most people wouldnt know about you?I get a little bit of stage fright whenever I sing, perform or speak in front of an audience.Final thought?Im grateful for Drumhellers volunteer spirit.

Tough Mudder
Michele Scott| inSide Drumheller
Missing the on-line registration to watch Drumhellers September 6 & 7 Tough Mudder event shouldnt be an obstacle to attending. Spectators are able to pay $40 at the gate on either event day to go and cheer on their favourite Tough Mudder. Th e Tough Mudder website lists $15 paid parking available for spectators. You can bring your own food, you can bring your own chairs, things like that - cam-eras, umbrellas, said Tough Mudder Gener-al Manager Nick Cog-ger. He adds there will also be food and bev-erages for sale and a beer garden located on site at the Stampede Grounds. Spectators are encouraged to follow the spectator routes marked out by Tough Mudder in order to make the most of their Mudder day out. Th e suggested spectator routes will bring you to a handful of obstacles - and we
speci cally put some really interesting ob-stacles close to the base area (course start), said Cogger. Make sure you take in a start wave, make sure you follow the spectator routes, and then, as they begin to nish, take the time to watch the Electroshock Th erapy obstacle - watch people get zapped and scream and shout - its quite amusing.
Cogger will be tackling the Tough Mudder obstacle course himself Fri-day partly for fun and partly as a test run. Th ere are areas along the course that spectators will be asked to keep o , mostly for their own safety, said Cogger. Th e cli s are very steep, and the val-leys are very deep.
And we dont want people getting lost or getting hurt. Th ere will be Tough Mudder spectator maps at the Stampede Grounds both event days. See the full Tough Mudder obstacle course map on page 11.
A Tough Mudder crew member puts the fi nish-ing touches on an obstacle up at the Stampede Grounds Wednesday, September 3.

Drumheller joins with other communities across Canada and the world in support of International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Preven-tion Day on September 9. Th is day, the ninth day of the ninth month, was chosen to underline how important it is to support women to avoid drinking alcohol in the nine months of pregnancy. FASD is the most com-mon cause of preventable developmental disabilities in Canada. It is estimated that every year nine out of
every 1,000 babies in Can-ada are born with FASD. Many Canadians are living with the lifelong e ects of FASD and do not know it. FASD is an umbrella term describing the range of harms caused by pre-natal exposure to alcohol. Th ese may include lifelong physical, mental, behav-ioral, and/or learning dis-abilities. FASD has a broad social impact, with many individuals requiring life-
long support to cope with the demands of daily life. It can a ect anyone, regard-less of income, education, community or background. Health, social, educational and justice systems are in-volved on the community and provincial levels, with the cost to Canada of ap-proximately $5.3 billion per year. Community members, health and social service providers, and local de-
cision makers all have a role to play in supporting pregnant women to avoid alcohol during pregnancy and raising awareness that there is no safe amount, no safe type and no safe time to drink alcohol during pregnancy. South Central FASD
Committee urges all com-munity members to be a part of raising awareness about FASD and it preven-tion, on September 9, and throughout the year. Con-tact information for Sup-ports and Services in our
