Inside Berks Business is a program that allows educators to spend 4 days at a local company with a business mentor.› This allows educators to learn about local

businesses , their career opportunities, and desired skill sets for employees.

› Educators can then use this information to promote career awareness and give students a first-hand account of what the demands of a particular job are really like.

develop an understanding of the extensive training each employee must receive

experience/equivalent, be able to read manuals, motor vehicle checks, 21 years old, hazmat endorsement on license, willing to operate forklift truck, travel to sites, hand & power tools, general mechanical aptitude, lift up to 50 pounds ($14-20/hr.)

Sales- HS diploma, college degree preferred MS office proficiency, previous sales experience, driving requirements ($50-65,000)

Abstract #1› Students will browse the employment opportunities on the

EnerSys website and choose 2-3 jobs that sound interesting or that they think they might be interested in. They will research those job titles online to find the skills and education level necessary. They will then create an infographic or chart that shows the job title, required skills/education, PLUS other skills that may not have been listed but that the student feels/infers would be helpful for that particular job.

Abstract #2› During the unit for the novel Fever 1793, the students

will pretend that they are applying for a job in Mattie’s family’s coffeehouse. They must prepare the following career acquision documents after learning about each in class: letter of interest, resume, request for letter of recommendation, letter of appreciation following the interview.
