(a) This Rule applies totraffic separation schemesadopted by the Organizationand does not relieve anyvessel of her obligationunder any other rule.
(b) A vessel using atraffic separation schemeshall:(i) proceed in theappropriate traffic lane inthe general direction oftraffic flow for that lane;
(ii) so far as practicablekeep clear of a trafficseparation line orseparation zone;

(iii) normally join or leave atraffic lane at thetermination of the lane, butwhen joining or leavingfrom either side shall doso at as small an angle tothe general direction oftraffic flow as practicable.
(c) A vessel shall, so far aspracticable, avoid crossingtraffic lanes but if obliged todo so shall cross on aheading as nearly aspracticable at right angles tothe general direction oftraffic flow.

(d) (i) A vessel shall not use an inshore trafficzone when she can safely use the appropriatetraffic lane within the adjacent trafficseparation scheme. However, vessels of lessthan 20 meters in length, sailing vessels andvessels engaged in fishing may use theinshore traffic zone.(ii) Notwithstanding subparagraph (d)(i), avessel may use an inshore traffic zone whenen route to or from a port, offshoreinstallation or structure, pilot station or anyother place situated within the inshore trafficzone, or to avoid immediate danger.

(e) A vessel other than a crossingvessel or a vessel joining or leavinga lane shall not normally enter aseparation zone or cross aseparation line except:(i) in cases of emergency to avoidimmediate danger;(ii) to engage in fishing within aseparation zone.

(f) A vessel navigatingin areas near theterminations of trafficseparation schemesshall do so withparticular caution.
(g) A vessel shall so faras practicable avoidanchoring in a trafficseparation scheme orin areas near itsterminations.
(h) A vessel not usinga traffic separationscheme shall avoid itby aswide a margin as ispracticable.
(i) A vessel engaged in fishingshall not impede the passageof any vessel following a trafficlane.(j) A vessel of less than 20meters in length or a sailingvessel shall not impede thesafe passage of a power-drivenvessel following a traffic lane.
(k) A vessel restricted in her ability tomaneuver when engaged in an operation forthe maintenance of safety of navigation in atraffic separation scheme is exempted fromcomplying with this Rule to the extentnecessary to carry out the operation.(I) A vessel restricted in her ability to maneuverwhen engaged in an operation for the laying,servicing or picking up of a submarine cable,within a traffic separation scheme, is exemptedfrom complying with this Rule to the extentnecessary to carry out the operation.
