Keyboard Types:

1. QWERTY keyboardPronounced kwer-tee, refers to the arrangement

of keys on a standard English computer keyboard or typewriter.

The term comes from the fact the first 6 letters of the top row of keys are Q, W, E, R, T, and Y.

The QWERTY design was patented by Christopher Sholes in 1874.

2. DVORAK keyboard is designed so that the middle row of keys

includes the most common letters. In addition, common letter combinations are positioned in such a way that they can be typed quickly.

The Dvorak keyboard was designed in the 1930s by August Dvorak, a professor of education, and his brother-in-law, William Dealy.

Connection Keyboards

1. Wireless KeyboardsThese use three basic types of connections: • Bluetooth - is a wireless technology for exchanging

data over short distances. • Infrared (IR) - radiation is a type of electromagnetic

radiation (a wave with electricity) .• Radio Frequency - band of frequencies that lie in the

range 10 kilohertz to 300 000 megahertz and can be used for radio communications and broadcasting.

2. Wired Keyboards• PS/2 (Personal System/2) - is an electronic receptacle or

plug found on computers.- It accepts a PS/2 cable with a mini-DIN connector, and is

most often used to plug in a keyboard or mouse.• USB (Universal Serial Bus) - is a standard cable connection

interface on personal computers and consumer electronics.

- allows stand-alone electronic devices to be connected via cables to a computer (or to each other).

Pointing Devices

A pointing device is an input device that allows

a user to control a pointer on the screen.

A pointer is a small symbol on the screen whose location and

shape change as a user moves a pointing device.

Pointing Devices

• A mouse is a pointing device that fits under the palm of your hand comfortably.– Most widely used pointing device on desktop

computers.• A mouse can be wired or wireless.

• Microsoft Surface is an upcoming series of tablets designed and marketed by Microsoft.

• Microsoft Surface is with a high-end graphics display that is built into something similar to a coffee table. And users interact with the applications by using only their fingers and other objects.

Other Types of Input

• Two factors affect the quality of digital camera photos:

• Resolution refers to the number of pixels in an

image.• Pixel is a tiny dot that

make up the representation of an

image in a computer's memory.

Other Types of Input

• Voice input is the process of entering input by speaking into a microphone.

• Voice recognition is the computer’s capability of distinguishing spoken words.

• Audio input is the process of entering any sound into the computer.

Other Types of Input

• Video input is the process of capturing full-motion images and storing them on a computer’s storage medium.

Record video on a digital video (DV) camera or use a video capture card to convert analog signals to digital.

Connect the camera to a port on the system unit.

Transfer video and images.
