NTIC is a global provider of corrosion inhibiting products
The initial patent in 1980, for a “Volatile Corrosion Inhibiting Article”, utilizes the application of
Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI)
The majority of NTIC business is based around the application of VCI technologies

VOLATILE CORROSION INHIBITORS (VCI)
• The unique aspect of a VCI is its delivery mechanism
• A VCI in its “natural state” can be a solid, liquid or gas
• For solid or liquid VCIs, a small amount of the VCI also exists in a gaseous state. How much is determined by each compound’s Vapor Pressure
• Once in the vapor state, VCI disperses through the airspace

VCI ACTION
• To be effective, the VCI must be applied in an enclosed space, or it is simply lost to the atmosphere

• From the airspace, the VCI will reach and adsorb onto metallic surfaces, where they will work like typical corrosion inhibitors

Zerust® Flange Saver®
Flanged Joints are used across a wide variety of industries and are subject to corrosion, especially in aggressive environments.

Flange Savers
Are an extension of NTIC’s traditional VCI film (PE film with VCI compounded into the film)

The FS is used to create an “enclosure” around the flanged joint which:
• Reduces exposure to the outside environment
• Provides a delivery system for VCI into the enclosure to protect the enclosed metals

Corrosion Protection of Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Roof Interiors
Corrosion can be a significant problem in AST vapor spaces

Zerust® ReCAST-R
Corrosion is often more severe in crude oil tanks, with typically very aggressive vapor
space environments, including:

• Sulfur compounds (H2S, SO2, Mercaptans)
• Chlorides
• CO2
• High Relative Humidity
• High Temperatures (up to 80°C)
For tank vapor space surfaces, coatings generally are ineffective
• Unable to coat all surfaces
• Highly dependent on surface preparation and operator application skill
• Coating failures will contaminate stored product

Zerust® ReCAST-R System
Corrosion protection is provided by VCI delivered into the AST vapor space via dispensers installed on the AST roof
Data collected during the trial demonstrated that corrosive species in the test tank (with inhibitor) generated a more aggressive environment than that in the control tank
