INTRODUCTION

Packaging is a market and a marketing necessity. Traditionally, the function of packaging was to protect goods but in the modern age it acts as a promotional tool and the major image builder contributing to the product success.

Packing is the act of housing the product in the packages or containers like tins, cans, bags, jars, bottles, boxes etc.

A ‘package’ is a wrapper or a container in which product is enclosed ,encased, housed or sealed .

It deals with activities of planning and designing of different means of packing the products.

What is PACKAGING? “PACKAGING” is the science, art and technology of

enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the process of design, evaluation, and production of packages. Packaging can be described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transport, warehousing, logistics, sale, and end use.

Packaging design can be viewed in 3 different ways: A means of protecting the contents of the package A contributor to the cost of the end product A sales canvas on which to promote products attributes
