ENGINEERINGClient : Kruger paper making mills

Projet : Image processing software (1997).

Function : C++ programmer.

Description : During a 4 month summer project, Visual C++ was used to develop this software. It was able to detect paper break in Bromptonville Kruger paper mill. The goal of this project was to find the origin of the paper break. The software was using a Matrox “frame grabbber” video card.

Projet : Memory card recorder (1998).

Function : Electronic hardware designer.

Description : During a 6 month summer project, dynamic memory card was realized. A DSP (ADSP2185) from Analog Device was coded in assembler language to achieve quick image processing. The goal was to record one minute buffer video to detect paper breaks in the mill installation.

Projet : Optical fiber wattmeter & laser sources (1999).

Function : Electrical & mechanical designer.

Description : Analog & digital designer using Texas Instrument MPS430. LCD design in collaboration with an Asian LCD manufacturer. 3D mechanical LCD bezel design using Autocad. Microtest had been acquired by Fluke networks in 2001.

Description : This 21 day business trip in Tempe Arizona done with Dany Nolet (3 days together and 18 days alone) had as objective to teach the technical staff the way to manufacture and calibrate laser sources and power meter previously designed in Quebec City. The product had been manufactured at Varian assembly plan.

Projet : Optical fiber laser sources and power meter (2001).

Description : This one hand held product solution had a laser source and power meter custom configuration. Upon the order, the client could customize of laser source telecom wavelength or power meter. A third party partnership was established to achieve a custom LCD design.

Description : Wall mount air exchanger simulator to demonstrate the product functions needed. This software simulator was very useful to make the project requirements clearer and to do promotion of the future product.

Projet : GIN bloc intercom (2006).

Function : Electronic designer & project manager.

Description : Intercom electronic card design in hostile railway environment using military components. In partnership with Reno-System, a technical formation had been done to teach to technicians how to use, repair and offer technical support to the intercom users. Many tests were done during the subway was in normal operation. We were privileged to perform these tests in the front car beside the STM driver.

Projet : Skate blade warmer (2006).

Function : Electronic designer & project manager.

Description : Hockey skate blade electronic warmer. In partnership with PRECICAD and Pierre Harvey eng. to simulate temperature distribution in the skate blade using finite element analysis. An electronic card was used to warm up the blade.

Projet : Wall control air exchanger (2008).

Function : Project manager & electronic designer.

Description : “ Cost driven ” project that needed ingenuity to reach the unit cost aimed by client. That was a high volume production project. The LCD, backlight, mechanic enclosure, electronic and humidity sensor were a custom design. Instead of using std humidity sensor we created our own sensor to reduce the unit cost. By doing this, we reduced the humidity sensor cost by 85 %.

Description : During hardware design, many parameters are taken into account. Among them, there is EMC (electromagnetic compatibility). This means that the product should not broadcast too much electromagnetic noise to avoid disturbances on products beside the current device under test.These tests were conducted at ETL (Toronto), CRIQ (Montreal), LabCEM (Montréal) or COMLAB (Québec).

Projet : LED visibility + Laser replacement (2014).

Function : Electrical engineer.

Description : Biathlon Courcelette had a problem to see the green leds on the targets with the sun aligned in front of them. A mechnical solution had been added to avoid the sun glare. The lasers where replaced in respect to the class 1 laser.

Projet : Intelligent EVSE. Remote power control (2015).

Function : Electrical design engineer.

Description : Using a GSM technology, with this solution, it is possible to remotely shutdown the power using an app and SMS messages. This way, in case of many EVSE installed at one single place, it’s possible to limit the peak recharge power of many electric vehicles to 50kW before the Hydro-Quebec electric peak overcharge happens.
