Ambitionin Action

‘Better prevention and control methods of airborne viruses’.

1)Awareness Campaign (Checklist Posters) ‘Prevent the Spread’

3) Anti-bacterial dispensers in key

locations

4) First Aiders to check with ear thermometers

at peak seasonal periods

5) Bigger budgets for Air-conditioning

maintenance and filter exchange

2) Free Flu Vaccinations to students included in

enrolment cost

6)‘Future Projection’-Bio- Thermal camera/ computer equipment

Create a Checklist type Posters and distribute in key locations around campus. This can be reinforced by incorporating into the OH&S students units.

Key Points:

Cover nose and mouth –crook of elbow or tissue

Wash Hands

Use of Anti-bacterial gels

Propose access to a free seasonal ‘Flu Vaccination’ for teachers, should be expanded to include enrolled students.

Our research supported the validity and effectiveness of successful implementation and we estimate:

Costs of the vaccination off-loaded through reduced student /

teacher absences

Programmed timetables more effective with less re-adjustments of content/sessions due to absences.

Better rates of student rention due to less absences as well as overwhelmed students doing catch-ups

Student rate of completion increases the budget of the faculty (WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza at the 7th Australian Symposium, Melbourne 2011)

Placement of anti-bacterial dispensers in key locationsaround campus such as:

Student Association room

Lunch rooms

Toilets

Staff rooms

First Aiders can help prevent the spread of the flu by checking with the use of an ear thermometer (suspected unwell students):

Allowing a student to leave an assessment task (ie. grant flexible delivery)

OR

Ask an unwell student to go home/go to the Doctor for a further health check and documentation.

Modernisation of split and ducted

air conditioner systems to incorporate

High Efficiency Filters and Ultraviolet

Sanitizing probes

Bigger budget allocations to allow

for increased maintenance and filter

exchange.

Transparency of collected data to OH&S Committee

• As with some of our neighbours in South East Asia, the

use of bio-thermal computer imaging equipment may be a

necessary installation within our institution's of the future.

• These will support systems in place at both airports and

hospitals.

• Educational programs and drills will reinforce awareness.
