• 26 OA experts from around the world
• Objective: to discuss the implementation of t he UNESCO Open Access strategy, including OA Repositories, OA Journals, OA Policies, Education and Training for OA, creation of the Network for OA to Scientific Information and Research

• Outcome: Set of proposals, including development of indicators for assessment of impact of OA in general, citation impact of OA journals; encourage green OA mandates and institutional repositories; assist development of relevant policies for OA in Member States
ICT access for people with disabilities
Consultative meeting on “Accessible ICTs and Personalized Learning for Students with Disabilities: A
Dialogue among Educators, Industry, Government and Civil Society” held on 17-18 November 2011 (UNESCO Paris, France)
Major objectives : – To identify practical solutions in education for personalized learning of students with disabilities; – To initiate the development of a chapter on accessibility within the ICT Competency Framework for Teachers.
Major outcomes: – Number of practical solutions identified for the personalised learning of students with disabilities; – Recommendations for the development of an interactive version on accessibility for the ICT Competency
Framework for Teachers.
Next steps: – Report published and launched at the “27th Annual International Technology and Persons with
Disabilities Conference (CSUN)” from February 27 to March 3, 2012 San Diego, California, by UNESCO (video presence) with Microsoft Corporation, and G3ict.
– Report presented at the international conference “ICT Serving Disabilities and Learning Difficulties” by UNESCO on 26-28 March 2012 in State of Kuwait.
– Fund raising for the development of the online interactive version on accessibility for the UNESCO ICT Teacher Competency Framework (including practical solutions, virtual library, curriculum, courses and other training resources for teachers).

April 2011: training workshop aimed to strengthen professional ethics and self-regulation of the Egyptian press
3 May 2011: public commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day in Egypt and Tunisia
Spring/Summer of 2011: conducting interim “Assessment of Media landscape” in Egypt and Tunisia based on UNESCO media Development Indicators
Spring/Summer of 2011: 94 journalists and editors in chief (mostly outside capital city) are being trained on election reporting in Tunisia
October 2011: conducted a capacity building IPDC project in Egypt and trained 37 local journalists in feature writing and reporting
13 November 2011: seminar “Egyptian National Press in Transition: Ensuring independent public service. International Experiences, Lessons Learnt and the Road Ahead.”

Ethical aspects of the information society
• The General Conference invited the Director-General to suggest at the 189th ExB Session possible ways in which UNESCO could address ethical issues linked to the information society
• A series of informal consultations with Member States will take place in February-March 2012 (based on background documents which are available at the back of the room)
• The outcome of discussions will be captured in the DG’s proposal to the 190th ExB session

Objectives:
– Showcase the world’s best practices in OER policies, initiatives, and experts; and
– Release a 2012 Paris OER Declaration calling on Governments to support the development and use of OERs
– Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2002 UNESCO Forum that created the term OER
