ABSTRACT SUMMARY• The Information Literacy Pilot Project at
Alabama A&M was planned and implemented to fulfill the following:
• the commitment to the HBCU Library Alliance Institute II and the Mellon Foundation, to assist students in recognizing when information is needed and have the ability to locate evaluate and use effectively the needed information

• The Meeting consisted of an interchange of ideas and an update on information literacy procedures, goals, objectives, technology usage at each of the libraries. Follow up and continuation of the collaborative activities was also discussed.

SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES• The number of students participating in the sample Pilot Project created a
challenge and additional equipment (more smart boards) would have provided more
student access to technology.

BREAKTHROUGHS/INNOVATIONS
• Students were introduced to information literacy and technology and engaged in in-
teractive learning at a more advanced level. Students were challenged to enhance critical thinking skills through
brainstorming.

The ACRL Standards for Information Literacy will be applied for learning.

PROJECT REVIEW• The Information Literacy Pilot Project was
chosen to create an Information Literate environment for students enrolled in English 102 and Honors English at Alabama A&M. students will participate in activities to strengthen and develop literacy skills, to develop techniques for reading comprehension, evaluation and critical thinking skills

PROJECT SUMMARY• The Pilot Information Literacy Project
provided an introduction to Information Literacy for a small sample of students.
More students will be involved in the In- formation Literacy Project in the Fall of
2006 when all of the English 102 classes will be participants.
