IIHMR University

IIHMR is the first of its kind knowledge ins�tu�on in India, established in 1984 in Jaipur, with a�en�on solely

focused on health systems management. The Ins�tute of Health Management Research was established as

IIHMR University vide Act No.3 of 2014 of the Government of Rajasthan. Hereina�er, the organisa�on will be

addressed as IIHMR University. IIHMR University has been accorded approval by the UGC vide their le�er

number F. No. 8-21/2014 (CPP-I/PU) dated October 15, 2015.

IIHMR University undertakes educa�on, training, research and consultancy in hospital management, health

management, pharmaceu�cal management, rural management and related areas.

The University's campus is spread over an area of 14.37 acres with a lush green cover, characterized by

stunning architecture. The serene ambience inspires students to strive for excellence. The University is well

equipped with student friendly infrastructure. The spacious campus provides the perfect atmosphere to

push the boundaries of learning and innova�on.

Dr. D. A. Henderson Library and Documenta�on Center

Dr. D.A. Henderson Library and Documenta�on Center at IIHMR University has a huge collec�on of

books, journals and other materials. It is commi�ed to provide user friendly services and easy access to

facili�es. The library resources are focused on Health Management, Hospital Administra�on, Health

Economics and Finance, Public Health, General Management, Management Informa�on Systems,

Popula�on, Research Methodology, Sociology, Economics, Rural Management, Computer Science etc.

The library has a collec�on of more than 31,500 volumes including textbooks, reference books, training

materials, case studies, manuals, reports and conference proceedings. In addi�on, it has 120 Na�onal

and Interna�onal Journals, Newsle�ers, CD-ROM databases, from India and abroad. The Library

subscribes to ProQuest, J-Gate & Sage online e-Journals and has EBSCO e-Books database. The library

also has DELNET (Developing Library Network) membership, and Indiastat.com, Popline etc. database.

The library's acquisi�on, cataloguing, circula�on and serial control are digi�zed under Libsys So�ware

with WebOPAC. The library also houses Udai Pareek HRD Resource Center.

IIHMR University Library and Documenta�on Center was dedicated to Dr. D. A. Henderson on May 31,

1996 by His Excellency Frank Wisner, US Ambassador to India. Dr. Henderson is known for his

outstanding contribu�on to the eradica�on of small pox.

IT Center

The IT Center at IIHMR University is a state-of-the-art center equipped with ultra-modern technology and

skilled manpower to manage it. The Center offers IT related support to the students, faculty and research

scholars at IIHMR University. This includes hands on technology infrastructure support (networking),

managing desktops, laptops, printers, projectors and video conferencing equipment and providing data

protec�on (backups and security) services.

The students, faculty and staff have access to fast internet through centrally managed Wi-Fi for wireless

connec�vity and a dedicated leased line connec�on. The Center manages the communica�on and data

requirements of all the faculty and staff of the University through cloud-based technology.

IT Center develops and manages so�ware for analysis of the university's ongoing research projects in the

health sector. The Center conducts workshops for the staff members of the university to keep them abreast

with the latest technology.

Lecture Halls

All the lecture halls are spacious, equipped with modern teaching aids and specifically designed to

facilitate par�cipa�ve learning environment. Every lecture hall has a computer connected to the Wi-Fi

network that allows the faculty to retrieve relevant informa�on real �me. Some lecture halls are equipped

with interac�ve display boards.

Hostel Facility

IIHMR University provides spacious, well-furnished and air-cooled hostel rooms with all modern ameni�es

and conveniences. However, the hostel facility on the IIHMR University campus is limited.

Sports and Recrea�on Facili�es

In a healthy body resides a healthy mind. IIHMR University encourages students to stay fit through

par�cipa�ng in various sports and co-curricular ac�vi�es. The facili�es on the campus include swimming

pool, gymnasium, tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts. The students celebrate various func�ons and

par�cipate in cultural events at the University.

MBA Hospital and Health Management

(Ins�tute of Health Management Research)

This is the university’s flagship educa�onal program which aims to develop trained professional managers with requisite

skills in planning, implementa�on, opera�onal management, diagnosis and problem solving, consultancy, and

entrepreneurship. Through this rigorous program, graduates are able to manage hospitals and healthcare ins�tu�ons

globally, both in the public and the private sectors, thus mee�ng the demand for quality healthcare management. The

intake capacity of the program is 180.

The University builds achievers through the program. Our students have brought laurels in many inter-campus and na�onal

compe��ons in academic and non-academic ac�vi�es. They have presented papers in conferences organized by the

University, other ins�tu�ons and have published their papers and won pres�gious interna�onal scholarships. The

University also encourages students to take up entrepreneurship. For this purpose, an Incuba�on Centre has been

established at the university.

Objec�ves of the Program

The broad objec�ve of the program is to build knowledge and skills to facilitate high performance as effec�ve professionals

in health and hospital systems, both in the public and private sectors. The syllabus and course content are designed keeping

in mind the current requirements of the healthcare industry. The objec�ves are as under:

Programme Outcome

Summer Training

Each student works with an organisa�on, on a project for a period of a minimum of eight weeks at the end of the first year. The objec�ve is to allow students an intense day-to-day interac�on with organisa�ons. Summer Training provides exposure to the student to the working of an organsa�on in the real �me. It also helps students to develop managerial skills, competencies and facilitate an informed career choice by the students. At the end of summer training, they will be assessed based on their performance during the period by way of report and poster presenta�on.

Second Year

In the second year, the students are required to opt for Hospital or Health Management. The stream is allo�ed before the summer training on the basis of merit in the first year, ap�tude and individual preference.

For all the above streams each student will have elec�ve courses and disserta�on and internship during second year.

Elec�ves are offered depending on current industry needs, students' requirements and their interest.

Disserta�on and Internship

Each student is required to submit a disserta�on involving personal research in his/her area of interest. The disserta�on includes a cri�cal review of literature pertaining to the specific area of interest, data collec�on

and analysis on the selected problem. The disserta�on must be completed in the second year to qualify for the degree.

General Instruc�ons

Admission Requirements

Admission to the programs will be done from among the eligible applicants based on the under men�oned eligibility criteria and selec�on process.

Eligibility Criteria for MBA Hospital and Health Management

• Any recognized bachelor’s degree of minimum three-year dura�on with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

• MAT/CAT/CMAT/ATMA/XAT/GMAT/IIHMR-U MAT score.

For candidates who do not have MAT / CAT / CMAT / ATMA / XAT / GMAT scores but wish to apply for admission to MBA Hospital and Health Management, IIHMR University will conduct IIHMR-U MAT at the IIHMR University Jaipur on March 23, 2018; April 27, 2018; May 25, 2018; and June 29, 2018. GD/PI for qualified candidates will be conducted on the same day.

Candidates appearing in the final year examina�on of the bachelor’s degree program or awai�ng results of their final year examina�on in 2018 may also apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be given provisional admission. They will be required to produce evidence of their gradua�on within two months of the start of the session.

Selec�on Procedure

The eligible candidates will be invited for Group Discussion

(GD) and Personal Interview (PI). The final selec�on of the

candidate is based on his/her performance in the qualifying

examina�on with propor�onal score in MAT/CAT/CMAT

/ATMA/XAT/GMAT / IIHMR-U MAT, the Group Discussion

(GD), and Personal Interview (PI). Candidates are required

to bring their original documents at the �me of the

interview. The candidate will be assessed on the following

criteria:

The University offers MBA Pharmaceu�cal Management. This educa�onal program aims at developing trained

professionals with requisite skills in planning and opera�ng management techniques; diagnosing and solving management

problems; and acquiring consultancy skills, with a view to preparing them to manage pharmaceu�cal industrial units. The

in-take capacity of the program is 60.

As the program has set high standards of management educa�on in the pharmaceu�cal management sector, it has a�ained

Summer Training

Each student works with an organisa�on, on a project for a

period of a minimum of eight weeks at the end of the first

year. The objec�ve is to allow students an intense day-to-

MBA Rural Management(School of Development Studies)

In view of the burgeoning demand for development professionals who can hit the ground running in a variety of sectors,

MBA in Rural Management is commi�ed to developing a cadre of trained professional managers who are capable of

managing rural development organisa�ons and programs, both in the public and the private sectors. The in-take capacity of

the program is 30.

The primary objec�ve of the coursework is to facilitate integra�ve learning, so that graduates are able to walk into

professional roles with ease, and play a vital role both at the opera�onal and strategic levels in their jobs. Furthermore, the

course will allow the students to specialize in domains such as Financial Inclusion, Rural Health, and Livelihood

Enhancement, all of which are areas of high demand.

Objec�ves of the Program

The Program Educa�onal Objec�ves (PEOs) of the course is to facilitate integra�ve learning in the deepest sense of the

term, so that graduates can walk into professional roles with ease and play a pivotal role both at the opera�onal and

strategic level in their jobs. Currently, students in mainstream MBA in rural management programs are largely being

prepared for an “opera�onal” engagement. For this to change, the course outline of the IIHMRU MBA (RM) strikes a balance

between three things:

• Cri�cal thinking, ac�ve engagement with mul�ple stakeholders, and lateral thinking that allows students to think

prac�cally and strategically.

• Founda�onal managerial skills associated with development praxis, ideally for all sectors (government, civil society

sector, and private sector); and more specifically, those skills relevant for the specializa�ons that the students choose.

• Strong fieldwork and organiza�onal skills based on off campus learning experiences so that once they graduate,

students can hit the ground running.

Field Work Segment 1

Three weeks of village stay: Students will spend �me

learning about the ground reali�es of rural life, the

changing character of the rural economy and culture, and

will use their �me in the village to document these

experiences. Preliminary skills in research and wri�ng will

One week of reflec�ve and analy�cal wri�ng on prescribed

themes: On their comple�on of the village stay, students

Separate hostel facility for boys and girls is available room rent is payable on yearly basis. Private hostels, PG

IIHMR University has limited hostel facility on the campus for the students. The University provides spacious, well-

Policy towards Ragging

The University observes 'Zero Tolerance' policy to ragging. Strict disciplinary ac�on will be taken against students found

Evalua�on Process

Evalua�on of a student's performance is a con�nuous process. To be recommended for the award of the degree, students

are required to achieve a prescribed standard in the total course work, including both mid-term and end-term

examina�ons.

Award of Degree

The following are the requirements for passing the examina�on and award of the degree.

• A�endance: Every student is expected to a�end all the classes (not less than 75% in any case). No unauthorized

absence from field placement is permi�ed (Please refer to examina�on policy)

• Examina�on: A student's performance will be judged in the mid term and end-term examina�ons. Every course

carries a maximum of 100 marks. The mid-term exam includes assignments, class par�cipa�on and wri�en exams,

whereas the end-term includes wri�en exams. To clear a course every student has to score a minimum of 50% marks.

• Summer Training: Summer training is an integral part of the first-year course. Every student is required to write a

summer training report. The students are assessed on the basis of their performance during summer training.

• Disserta�on and Internship: Every student is required to undergo internship at the end of 2nd year courses and write

an internship report and disserta�on separately. The students are assessed on the basis of their performance in the

disserta�on and internship.

Placement

The University has a fully func�onal Placement Cell which plays an instrumental role in facilita�ng the careers of the

students. The Placement Cell comprises of Dean, Academic and Student Affairs, as the Faculty Advisor, Deputy Registrar

(Academics), and Placement Execu�ve who acts towards the successful arrangement of training and placements of the

students. The Placement Commi�ee comprises of the student representa�ves from all the streams and plays an important

role in the Placement Cell. The Placement Cell facilitates the following ac�vi�es:

a) Placements for summer training in the first year;

b) Placements for internship and disserta�on in the second year; and

Master of Public Health

Since 2013, Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH), Bal�more, Maryland, USA in

partnership with the Ins�tute of Health Management Research University (IIHMR) has been offering Master of Public

Health (MPH) degree program in Jaipur, India, for Indian students as well as those from surrounding countries. The intake

capacity of the program is 30. This pres�gious program is designed with the following objec�ves:

• To cul�vate students' health management skills so that they will be prepared to enhance the effec�veness and

efficiency of public health programs and services

• To enhance the capabili�es of public health professionals in countries of Global South.

• To prepare professionals for challenging careers in public health management in the public and private sectors, non-

governmental organisa�ons, as well as na�onal and mul�na�onal organisa�ons

MPH Program Overview

The Master of Public Health degree program is a two-year course. The coursework includes on-campus and online classes, a

capstone exercise, and a prac�cum experience, all totaling to 80 credits. On-campus courses will begin at IIHMR Jaipur. The

Students will travel to Bal�more, Maryland, for a 2-week winter session at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public

Health, USA. The MPH program 2018-2020 will commence in October 2018.

The curriculum is structured to build knowledge, develop skills and provide exposure to real-world situa�ons in public

health. Courses will be taught by dis�nguished faculty members from JHSPH and IIHMR University who have contributed to

mee�ng the challenges of public health and health care management na�onally and interna�onally.

The pedagogy for each course is selected judiciously, and consistently encourages the students to learn experien�ally, by

helping them to relate concepts and theories to authen�c public health management systems. The program aims to

develop students' competencies in the following core areas:

• Biosta�s�cs

• Epidemiology

• Environmental Health Sciences

Admissions Criteria

Interested individuals from India or surrounding low- and middle-income countries must have:

• A Bachelor's degree.

• A minimum of 2 years of experience (full �me) related to health besides the Bachelor's/Master's degree. (Work

experience is waived for Ph.D. and M.B.B.S graduates.)

• Prior college-level mathema�cs courses; prior college-level biology course plus another health-related course.

• Proficiency in English through prior degree, TOEFL or IELTS.

• Demonstrated quan�ta�ve and verbal skills through GRE, MCAT, LSAT, or GMAT. (Applicants with degrees besides the

bachelor's degree may request a waiver of standardized test scores if they are other sources of quan�ta�ve abili�es.)

Applica�on Process

Applicants seeking admission to the MPH program must go through a prescreening process and need to be pre-approved by

IIHMR University before they apply. Applicants should follow the steps given below:

• STEP 1: Candidate should download a pre-screening ques�onnaire from www.mph.iihmr.edu.in and send the

completely filled pre-screening ques�onnaire along with an updated CV/resume for pre-approval to

[email protected] by MAY 31, 2018.

• STEP 2: A confirma�on mail will be sent to each candidate a�er receipt of the materials in STEP 1. Then a pre-approval

email for the applica�on will be sent to the candidate by IIHMR University followed by another email from JHSPH with an

invita�on to complete the online MPH applica�on through SOPHAS (Schools of Public Health Applica�on System)

Ph.D. Program

IIHMR University has started offering a full-fledged Ph.D. program since 2014 added to its exis�ng postgraduate program.

Although the program builds on IIHMR university's core competencies in the domain of public health, health and hospital

management, pharmaceu�cal management and rural development, the program is envisaged to be mul�disciplinary in

nature and allows poten�al candidates to pursue research on a wide range of topics. The areas of research for the doctoral

program include, but are not strictly restricted to, public health, health and hospital management, nursing management,

pharmaceu�cal management, popula�on and development, health economics and finance, rural and urban health, health

communica�on and behavioural change, informa�on technology in the health sector, health systems, food security and

nutri�on, and rural development. The program is open to postgraduates and professionals in the field of management,

public health and medicine, nursing, Indian System of Medicine (ISM), health economics and finance, demography, rural

management/development and relevant social and behavioural science disciplines. There are 15 Seats in the Ph. D program

for batch commencing in 2018. (Part �me or full �me). Part-�me Ph. D will be allowed provided all the condi�ons

men�oned in the extant Ph. D Regula�ons are met as per the UGC Regula�ons

Objec�ves of the Program

The Ph.D. program broadly aims at building and strengthening research capacity in three broad thrust areas of IIHMR that

include i) public health/health systems, ii) pharmaceu�cal management and iii) development studies. The overarching

purpose of the program is to create a cadre of researchers who are well equipped with necessary skills to undertake

evidence-based policy research on issues of contemporary significance related to these areas, with the larger goal of

promo�ng sustainable human development. More specific objec�ves of the Ph. D program are:

Building research capacity to strengthen health, pharma, rural and in the mandated disciplines of the University developing

a cadre of outstanding academics and management professionals for higher level health, pharmaceu�cal and development

studies teaching and research in postgraduate ins�tu�ons and universi�es, health care industry, and Government and

consul�ng organisa�ons.

The program is designed to enable the students:

To enhance the research competency and skills of postgraduates, researchers, academicians, teachers and mid-career

professionals in private and Government health sectors in policy and program management research in the health and

other sectors.

Dura�on of the Program

The minimum program dura�on is three years including period of registra�on. Registra�on in Ph.D. is subject to passing

qualifying examina�on which will be based on the course work in the first year of the program. Program has four important

mile stones; namely; course work with 16 credits; wri�ng and presen�ng research proposal, data collec�on and thesis

wri�ng, presenta�on and submission.

The maximum period allowable to complete Ph.D. is six years. The candidate will have to re-register if s/he does not

complete Ph. D in six years

Admission Requirement

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates for admission to the Ph D. program shall have a Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to

the Master's or M Phil degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its

equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or

an equivalent degree from a foreign educa�onal Ins�tu�on accredited by an Assessment and Accredita�on Agency which is

approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any

other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accredi�ng or assuring quality and standards of

educa�onal ins�tu�ons.

A relaxa�on of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxa�on of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to

SC/ST/OBC (noncreamy layer)/Differently-Able and other categories of candidates as per UGC Guidelines from �me to �me,

or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an

equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxa�on of 5% to the categories men�oned

above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark.

Admission Process

The admission process will include three steps: Screening of applica�ons, IIHMR Research Ap�tude Test (IRAT) and personal

interview.

IIHMR Research Ap�tude Test (IRAT):

The IIHMR University will conduct a qualifying test a�er screening of applica�ons and short-lis�ng candidates. IRAT will be a

wri�en test consis�ng of mul�ple choice ques�ons from English language proficiency, reasoning, basic quan�ta�ve

analysis and research ap�tude. The Test will be conducted at IIHMR University, Jaipur on the date that will be

communicated separately.

Admission to the Research Degree program shall be subject to the fulfilment of the minimum cut-off marks as prescribed

from �me to �me by UGC. Final selec�on for admission shall be made on the basis of the merit of the composite score.

Exemp�on for IRAT: The following categories will be exempted from the wri�en IRAT:

UGC CSIR qualified JRF & NET, SLET, GATE and Teacher Research Fellowship holder and have passed M Phil program in

relevant subjects.

Personal Interview

Personal interview will be conducted on the day of IRAT or next day a�er IRAT at the IIHMR University, Jaipur. All categories

of candidates will be required to appear in the Pl. at the �me of interview the candidates are required to discuss their

research interest/area through a presenta�on.
