BACKGROUND INFORMATION

John Newman was born 16th June 1990, making him 23 years old

He grew up in Settle, North Yorkshire, to a mother who was obsessed with Motown and Northern Soul – which explains the type of genre his music is based around

He is best known for his song ‘Love Me Again’ – the song we have chosen to feature in our music video

He is a musician, as well as being a singer-songwriter

He is associated with the record labels Island Records and Universal Music

JOHN NEWMAN’S LOVE FOR

MUSIC

On his website, I read his BIO, where he spoke a lot about his

love for music, and his particular taste

He explains how he liked house music and then went on to

discover his mums old records ‘under the stairs’

The house music he used to love turned into hip-hop, then

Motown, then his mums electric 70s and 80s vinyl’s,

including artists such as Diana Ross and James Brown

John started to create his own tracks and instrumentals, by

putting little bits from what he heard and making them work

together

He started to play solo gigs at pubs, then went on to going to

Leeds University to study music

John then moved to London, and started working in the Old

Dairy in Stroud Green, where he met Piers Agget, who would

later create the band Rudimental

FEATURING IN

RUDIMENTAL’S SONG

In May 2012, John Newman featured in two of the greatest dance

hits to storm the UK charts in years

One of these songs included ‘Feel the Love’ by the British quartet

band, Rudimental

This song was released in the UK on May 14th, 2012

The song went on to debut at the summit of the UK Singles and

the Dance Charts

The track was also selected as BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe’s

Hottest Record in the World

The single peaked at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart in early-

June 2012

Newman spent 12 months writing, recording and touring with the

‘Mental and Plan B

He has now recently released his album, Tribute, which featured

the song ‘Love Me Again’.

Is a song from the soul singer and musician, Newman’s debut

album Tribute

The song was released as a digital download in Europe 17th May

2013, except in the United Kingdom it was released on the 30th

May 20130

It was written by both Newman himself and Steve booker, who

also produced it, along with Mike Spencer
