Introduction to Informatica AddressDoctor Database Download Manager

This chapter includes the following topics:

• Informatica AddressDoctor Database Download Manager Overview, 1

• Informatica Passport Overview, 2

• Postal Reference Databases and Packages, 2

Informatica AddressDoctor Database Download Manager Overview

You can use Informatica AddressDoctor Database Download Manager (Informatica ADM) to select and download reference address databases for the Informatica AddressDoctor solution. Informatica ADM is available as a web portal and as a Java based client application that you can install on a device that has Internet access. You can access the Informatica ADM portal from the Informatica Passport dashboard. You can download the client application from the portal and install it on a device that has Internet access.

The Informatica ADM portal and client are integrated with the Informatica Passport single sign-on solution. You can use your Informatica Passport user profile to seamlessly access various Informatica tools and portals including Informatica ADM and Informatica AddressDoctor Data Quality Center (Informatica AddressDoctor DQC).

Note: If you do not have an Informatica Passport user profile, you must create an Informatica Passport user profile and assign your Informatica AddressDoctor DQC accounts to the Informatica Passport user profile before you can use Informatica ADM.

By default, the Informatica ADM portal and client display the list of reference address databases that your Informatica Passport user profile is authorized to download. You get download rights for reference address databases when you buy unlock codes for the databases. If multiple Informatica AddressDoctor DQC accounts have been mapped to the Informatica Passport user profile that you used to log in, Informatica ADM displays all the databases that the Informatica AddressDoctor DQC accounts associated with the Informatica Passport user profile are authorized to download.

From the Informatica ADM portal, you can download only one reference address database at a time. You can use the Informatica ADM client to download multiple databases together. You can use the default option of

1

Page 8: Informatica Database Download Manager - 1.0.0 - User Guide ...

Smart Download in the Informatica ADM client to download only those files that have been updated since you last downloaded the files.

You can also download the latest Informatica AddressDoctor software packages and documentation from the Informatica ADM portal.

Note: Informatica ADM returns a blank page in the following scenarios:

• Your Informatica Passport user profile does not have any Informatica AddressDoctor DQC account associated with it.

• The Informatica AddressDoctor DQC account that is associated with your Informatica Passport user profile does not have any valid unlock code provisioned for it .

You can use the filtering options available in the Informatica ADM portal and client to identify the databases that you need to download. You can also view the complete list of databases that are available for Informatica AddressDoctor customers by clearing the Show Allowed check box.

Informatica Passport OverviewInformatica Passport is a single sign-on solution that enables you to access Informatica portals, solutions, and products with a single sign-on.

Informatica Passport is powered by Okta and provides seamless access to Informatica My Support, Marketplace, and various Informatica applications and solutions, such as Informatica AddressDoctor DQC and Informatica ADM. Informatica Passport and Informatica ADM are integrated by using the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) data format.

If you do not have an Informatica Passport user profile, you can click the Register link at https://dqc.addressdoctor.com/SSO and create an account. For more information about creating an Informatica Passport user profile, see Informatica AddressDoctor Data Quality Center User Guide, which is available at the Informatica My Support portal.

Postal Reference Databases and PackagesInformatica AddressDoctor postal reference databases are proprietary-format databases that contain reference addresses from countries and territories that Informatica AddressDoctor supports for validation. The database names contain information about the country or territory to which the addresses belong, the process mode or enrichments supported, and the main version of Informatica AddressDoctor that the database is compatible with.

Informatica AddressDoctor supports validation of postal addresses from over 240 countries and territories. Informatica AddressDoctor provides reference address databases for supported countries and territories in .MD format, which is an Informatica AddressDoctor proprietary format. The reference address databases

2 Chapter 1: Introduction to Informatica AddressDoctor Database Download Manager

are read-only and platform-independent. You can use the same database on all platforms that support Informatica AddressDoctor.

The reference database file name follows the XXXYZZZZ.MD format, where XXX stands for the ISO 3166-1 alpha 3 code for the country or territory, Y the Informatica AddressDoctor main version, and ZZZZ the reference database type, such as BI for Batch and Interactive, FC for Fast Completion, or GCAP for High Precision Arrival Point Geocoding.

From Informatica ADM, you can download the postal reference databases that are provided as country- or territory-specific .zip packages. The .zip file names follow the DB5_XXXYZZZZ_YYMMDD.zip format. XXX in the file name stands for the ISO 3166-1 alpha 3 code for the country or territory. ZZZZ indicates the reference database type such as Batch and Interactive (BI), Fast Completion (FC), or High Precision Arrival Point Geocoding (GCAP). YYMMDD indicates the date the database was released.

Note: If a particular database is supported only up to a certain version of Informatica AddressDoctor, the last supported version is indicated in the file name. For example, the Singapore Batch and Interactive database has two versions: DB5_SGP5BI_529_140801.zip and DB5_SGP5BI_140801.zip. The first one, DB5_SGP5BI_529_140801.zip, is supported only up to Version 5.2.9 of Informatica AddressDoctor, whereas the second one, DB5_SGP5BI_140801.zip, is current and supported on Version 5.3.0 and later.

For example, you can decode the file name DB5_USA5BI_131110.zip as Informatica AddressDoctor Version 5 (DB5) Batch and Interactive (BI) mode database for the United States (USA) that was released on November 10, 2013 (131110).

Informatica AddressDoctor supports the following types of reference address databases:BI

Batch and interactive.

FC

Fast completion.

Cx

Certified. x is a numeric. For example, SERP-certified database for Canada addresses.

AC

Address code lookup.

GC

Standard geocoding.

GCAP

Arrival point geocoding.

GCPC

Parcel centroid geocoding.

CA

CAMEO.

Ex

Supplementary. x is a numeric. For example, INSEE code information for France addresses.

Informatica AddressDoctor provides multiple reference address databases for many of the countries and territories that are supported for address validation and enrichments. For example, DEU5BI.MD, DEU5FC.MD, and DEU5GC.MD are some of the reference address databases that are available for Germany addresses.

You need valid unlock codes, including specific codes for enrichment databases such as geocoding and CAMEO, to unlock these databases.

Informatica ADM Client OverviewThe Informatica ADM client is a Java based application that you can use to select and download multiple reference address database. You can download the Informatica ADM client application from the Informatica ADM portal and install on a device that has Internet access. You can use the smart download option, which is enabled by default, in the Informatica ADM client to download all the files that have been updated since you last downloaded the databases.

The Informatica ADM client is integrated with the Informatica Passport single sign-on solution. You can use your Informatica Passport user credentials to log on to the Informatica ADM client. Smart Download and OverwriteYou can use the smart download feature to ensure that you download only those databases that you have not downloaded previously. Smart download is enabled by default. You can enable overwrite if you want the Informatica ADM client to overwrite the files present in the download directory when you select the same files for download.

When the smart download option is enabled, the Informatica ADM client checks the downloadhistory.xml file associated with the user profile and downloads only those files that are not listed in downloadhistory.xml. The Informatica ADM client creates the downloadhistory.xml file when you first download reference address databases by using the client, and saves it to the location where you have saved the client. On subsequent downloads, the Informatica ADM client updates the downloadhistory.xml file to include information about files that you download.

The following example shows a typical downloadhistory.xml file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?><DownloadDetail> <FileDownloadInfo> <countryName></countryName> <fileName>DB5_CAN5FC_140901.zip</fileName> <status>Downloaded</status> <downloadDate>2014/09/17 11:19:11</downloadDate> </FileDownloadInfo> <FileDownloadInfo> <countryName></countryName> <fileName>DB5_USA5BI_140901.zip</fileName> <status>Downloaded</status> <downloadDate>2014/09/17 11:19:45</downloadDate> </FileDownloadInfo> <FileDownloadInfo> <countryName></countryName> <fileName>DB5_CAN5C1_140901.zip</fileName> <status>Downloaded</status> <downloadDate>2014/09/17 11:20:28</downloadDate> </FileDownloadInfo></DownloadDetail>

In the preceding example, you can see that the downloaded files include Canada Fast Completion database, Canada Certified database, and the United States Batch and Interactive database. So, next time if the user tries to download these files when smart download is enabled, the Informatica ADM client marks them as already downloaded and skips downloading these files. This way, the Informatica ADM client optimizes the download process and ensures that it downloads only those files that have not been downloaded previously.

To download all the files that you choose to download irrespective of whether those files have been downloaded previously, disable the smart download feature. To disable the smart download feature, clear the Smart Download check box from the Informatica ADM client window.

However, if the previously downloaded files are present in the download location, the Informatica ADM client does not overwrite those files unless you explicitly configure the client to overwrite old files. You can enable the overwrite option if you want the Informatica ADM client to overwrite the files present in the download directory when you select the same files for download again.

To enable overwrite, select the Overwrite Old Files check box from the Informatica ADM client window.

Note that the smart download option always takes precedence over the overwrite option. If you enable both smart download and overwrite, the Informatica ADM downloads and overwrites only those files that are not listed in the downloadhistory.xml file .

RELATED TOPICS:• “The Download File” on page 15

The Download FileThe download file, download.xml, contains information about the databases that you selected for download. Typically, the download file is generated by the Informatica ADM client when you use its GUI to select reference address databases.

When you select reference address databases from the Informatica ADM client GUI and click Add to Download, the Informatica ADM client creates the download file and adds the details of the selected databases to the file. The download file is saved to the same directory to which you saved the DownloadTool.jar file.

The download file contains the name of the country and the name of the compressed file that contains the reference address database for the selected country. From the file names listed in the Download file, you can identify the type of the databases that are queued for download. The download file also contains a time stamp that shows the time when you last updated the download list.

Every time you make a change to the list of databases to download, the Informatica ADM client updates the download file to reflect the changes you make to the list of files to download. If you want to use the Informatica ADM client from the CLI of the device to which you have downloaded the Informatica ADM client, you can manually update the download file and include information about databases that you want to
