Should DLSU move to the cloud?

DLSU should move some to cloud computing. There are several advantages of cloud computing such asit drives down IT costs. This is because of the elimination of funding the stand-alone software andservers. Furthermore, there is an unlimited storage space and automatic software integration DLSU will

move to cloud. Transferring to cloud computing may help DLSU resolve issues on room space as therewould be a spare room in which can be convertible to a classroom. Since DLSU is composed of a hugenumber of members, operating in cloud computing is advantageous due to its scalability toaccommodate a large number of users. Also, there would be an easier and efficient back-up anddisaster recovery of the files.

However, cloud computing is being questioned due to security, privacy, and compliance. Therefore, Isuggest that DLSU must not move all its services in the cloud especially if it contains sensitiveinformation. DLSU can move its Admissions and Financial Aid services in the cloud just like what BostonCollege did. Also, DLSU can use Google Apps for Education for its students and employees email andcollaboration tools just like New York University did to its systems.

DLSU Now The Information Technology Center of DLSU-Manila maintains the followingInformation Technology facilities:Networking Equipment

    Cost and Benefit Analysis

It shows that an educational institution can significantly cut its cost when it shifted to cloud computing.More specifically, the cost and benefit analysis below shows that DLSU can save approximately by$40,388.92 hosting its services in the cloud.
