Theory of the commonsSelf-organised communities can be considered efficient and effective agents in producing environmental sustainability in socio-ecological systems. Natural resources have been made available for generations across centuries.
Institutions for collective actionInstitutions managing collective action and governing the commons grant to communities the possibility to settle and live in given territories. This is a good of general interest that can be defined habitability, i.e. the outcome of the interaction between biophysical conditions, social characters and rules producing a complex and performance property of a territory.
Social HousingDrawing on the theory of the commons, the project investigates the set of Italian and international projects and practises of Social Housing. According to a comparative approach, the project shows if and how self –organising communities produce habitability in residential contexts, identifying the condition of effectiveness of their action.

self-organisedcommunity
Theories on self-production of habitability by communities of inhabitants: The study of the commons is mainly centred on natural resources. This project extends the theory of the commons to the housing issue, which is an understudied field of research.
Practises and Policies of Social housing by self organised communities: by analysing Social Housing initiatives in Italy, UK and France this project shows the habitability dynamics that are generated by the spontaneous or indirect action of inhabitants. The project will identify their conditions of effectiveness.
Geospatial analysis of housing condition of the local context: the project explores how some key dimensions affecting habitability are spread in the main urban area of Trento. This experimental analysis will be useful to give information to local public and private stakeholders on how to plan urban regeneration initiatives.
