For many, the summer months mean many hours spent in a boat, and there are precautions you shouldalways take before every trip not to mention mandatory equipment you need to have by law
Life-jackets Must be Canadian-approvedlife-jackets or PFDs
Must have one for each person
Make sure to check condition(zippers, buckles, fabric, seams)
Soundsignalling device
Can be a pealess whistle, compressedgas horn or an electric horn (if craft isless than 12 m in length)
Larger boats require fitted whistles
Baileror
hand-pump
Fire extinguisher Required for boats with inboardmotors, fixed fuel tanks and/or anyfuel-burning cooking heating orrefrigeration units
Buoyantheavingline
At least 15 m in length
Oar oranchor
Anchor must have at least15 m of rope, cable or chain
Weather Always check the forecastbefore leaving
Have a radio on board toreceive updates
