My Life is a Poem is a mix of happy, sad, angry, and just plain ordinary

events and observations by a self-described borderline hippie who has lived all over the US but calls the New England States home even when living part of the year in a Colorado ski lodge or on an Indian reservation in Oklahoma.

T he poetry itself covers everything from personal feelings about smoking pot in

college, the birth of his first child in 1981, and shoveling snow to how he was affected by various world events including the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger.

T he 55 year old author has lived all over the US

but calls the New England States home even when living part of the year in a Colorado ski lodge or on an Indian reservation in Oklahoma.

The rich avor of pure vanilla is like no other. It just wouldn’t be dessert without vanilla. Vanilla Beans from Madagascar and Mexico, where there is a long history of growing vanilla, have wonderful, strong avor,

and are best used in ice cream and custard, beverages and cheesecake, where the liquid in the dish helps extract the avor of the bean. Given that one whole vanilla bean is usually used per recipe, it is easy to see why Pure Vanilla Extract is the more popular and economical choice—if one can use economical and vanilla in the same sentence. Using 1 teaspoon per dessert, a 4 uid ounce bottle of extract will yield 24 desserts—more or less anyway, given that most of us add a bigger splash than the recipe calls for. Even our Single Strength Vanilla Extract is 10% stronger than the grocery store variety, and our Double strength Vanilla will give you twice as much vanilla avor. Vanilla Sugar is a more recent introduction here at Penzeys, but has been made and used for years and years by Grandmas everywhere, who simply split a vanilla bean and place it in sugar until it becomes rich with vanilla avor, then remove the bean and use the sugar in their baking, replacing 1 TB. of the regular sugar in the recipe with 1 TB. of Vanilla Sugar. We also love tossing Vanilla Sugar with fresh fruit like strawberries—aer a few minutes even kids think it is as good as a cookie.

Madagascar Vanilla Beans Regarded as the world's best, Madagascar beans set the standard for prime vanilla flavor.

Mexican Vanilla Beans Mexican beans, while similar to Madagascar, have a darker avor that is perfect for vanilla liqueur and coee drinks.3 beans ........................... #58630 ....................................$ 6.2915 beans ......................... #58656 ..................................$ 24.99

Vanilla Sugar Wash and cut fruit, leaving slightly damp, then toss with Vanilla Sugar (1-2 TB. per quart of strawberries, for example)

and let stand for a few minutes, then serve plain or as a topper for cereal or ice cream. Vanilla Sugar is an old-fashioned mix of real Vanilla Beans aged in pure sugar, that was used in the old days before Vanilla Extract. We’ve been blending and using Vanilla Sugar in our coee for a long time, and it tastes great. Vanilla Sugar can be used in baking and candy-making, and is particularly nice where the avor of the vanilla bean should shine through, such as in ice-cream. Vanilla sugar is also the perfect sprinkle for coee and hot chocolate. Madagascar and Mexican Vanilla Beans chopped, mixed and aged with white sugar.

Single Strength Vanilla 35% alcohol. Pure extract from the highest quality 100% premium Madagascar “Bourbon Islands” vanilla beans. ese

beans have a rich and complex, smooth, true avor. e cool-perking process retains the bean's full avor, along with all of the desirable vanilla side notes. With over 400 avor components in every high-quality vanilla bean, articial vanilla (which contains only one–synthetic vanillin) will never come close to matching the wonderful richness of pure vanilla extract. is extract is 10% stronger than the pure vanilla extract sold in supermarkets, and has the great Madagascar avor. Ingredients: water, alcohol, sugar and vanilla bean extractives.

Double Strength Vanilla 35% alcohol. Pure double strength vanilla extract made from the highest quality Madagascar “Bourbon Islands”

vanilla beans. Compared to the single strength, twice as many beans are used to make each gallon of extract (about 200 beans). “Two-fold” vanilla extract has been the secret ingredient of professional bakers for years. For the amount of vanilla avor specied in a recipe, use half as much. When used this way, double strength vanilla makes economic sense, as there is the equivalent of twice as much vanilla per bottle. For unbeatably rich vanilla avor in baked goods and desserts, use the same amount the recipe calls for. Ingredients: water, alcohol, sugar and vanilla bean extractives.

Raspberry Cream Cheese KringleKringles are a very popular brunch treat here in Wisconsin. ey are a traditional Danish aky pastry that can be lled with a variety of fruits and nuts.ey use a no rise yeast dough that you can make ahead. Assemble it when you’re ready and have a special treat for Christmas morning. is may look long and complicated, but it’s really quite easy.

Dough: 4 Cups all-purpose our 1 Cup butter, slightly soened 2 TB. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 pkg. dry yeast 2 eggs, beaten 1 Cup milk

Cream Cheese Filling: 1 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese 1⁄2 Cup sugar 1 tsp. PURE VANILLA EXTRACT

4 TB. RASPBERRY ENLIGHTENMENT 1 Cup chopped pecansGlaze: 22⁄3 Cup powdered sugar 2 TB. butter, soened 4 TB. hot water 1 TB. milk 1-2 tsp. PURE VANILLA EXTRACT

Put the our, butter, sugar and salt into a bowl. Using a pastry blender, two knives, or your hands, blend together until the mixture is crumbly. If you don’t mind a little mess your hands work much better. In a separate bowl mix the dry yeast, beaten eggs, and the milk. Don’t worry that the yeast remains cold, that’s the beauty of this recipe, no rising! Add milk mixture to dry ingredients. Mix well with a fork until all ingredients are blended, it will pull away from the sides and form a ball. You may have to work the nal our into the dough with your hands. Divide it into two pieces, atten into discs, wrap in plastic wrap and put them into the refrigerator overnight.

Preheat the oven to 350°. Beat together the cream cheese, sugar and VANILLA. Roll out each piece of dough into a rectangle, 1/8 inch thick, about the length of your cookie sheet and as wide as 1/8 inch will allow. Spread half of the cream cheese lling over each piece of dough. en, spread each kringle with half of the RASPBERRY ENLIGHTENMENT and sprinkle with half of the pecans. Rolling from the short ends roll each side to the center. Pinch the center together and roll the ends under. Place each kringle on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 20-25 minutes changing racks halfway through the baking time (top to bottom, bottom to top). Remove kringles from cookie sheets to a cooling rack and let cool about 10 minutes before glazing.

Mix glaze ingredients together and whisk until smooth. Top the kringles with the glaze. Tastes great warm, so slice and serve right aer glazing if desired.

Prep. time: 15 minutes for dough, 15 minutes for assemblyBaking time: 25 minutesServes: 8-10 (makes 2)

ExplorationThis thought-provoking workshop opens doors to exploring the underlying reasons why permanent change is so challenging. The stage will be set for both personal and organizational growth opportunities.

Join us on September 26, 2007 or November 15, 2007, at the beautiful Delafield Hotel to uncover your potential to make the types of changes you want - and need- for greater organizational effectiveness.

Registration deadlines are September 16, 2007 and November 5, 2007.

The TR Weiland Company is a specialty focused consulting firm for executive leaders who are willing to address difficult organizational change issues. Unlike other consultants, the TR Weiland Company addresses root causes to achieve fundamental change that will transform your organization.

Has your organization struggled to adapt to changes?

Have you ever heard these phrases when trying to initiate necessary changes in your organization?

“We have never done it that way!” or…

“We’ve tried that before and it didn’t work!”

Have you experienced spoken or unspoken resistance to implement changes?

Harvard University professors who are internationally known have created this fascinating and powerful explorative workshop for organizations who desire effectiveness through growth of their leaders and teams.

Participants have called this workshop… “An interior aerobics course” “A ropes course of the mind” “A life-changing experience”

“ This workshop and the follow-up coaching have been pivotal in my personal and professional transformation. For years I have repeated the same cycles that were unsuccessful. Now I have a route to break that cycle and move forward.” Wendy Hall, Image 101

How do we dry out a structure?Water loss requires swift action to protect the structure and the health of its occupants. We use specialized moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras

to locate hidden moisture. Then state of the art drying equipment is used to speed dry all affected areas of your structure. We strictly adhere to the IICRC S500 Standards and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration to properly classify the type of water loss, dry out your structure and contents back to a healthy environment.

How does Mold start?Mold spores are everywhere; both indoors & outdoors. Mold spores require a food source, moisture and a little time to start growing. After a water intrusion, the required elements that mold and bacteria need to grow are present. Without proper drying, mold can start to grow within 48 to 72 hours on drywall, woodwork, contents and other organic surfaces.

Do I have Mold?If you can see mold, you have it. Mold will continue to grow until either the food source is removed or the moisture is removed. If you smell that “musty” odor,

chances are mold is actively growing someplace where it can not be seen. If someone in your home or work seems to get sick a lot, but they get better after being away, hidden mold may be making them sick.

If I have mold what do I do?If your home or business has mold, it is best remediated by a certified professional who has experience in mold removal and can help prevent it from growing again. Professional mold remediation involves more than just eliminating mold that can be seen. It includes containment to prevent cross contamination, proper removal and disposal of contaminated material and a detailed cleaning to remove microscopic spores, while providing proper protection of the technician’s health, from the mold.

Water Damage RestorationTime is critical when you have a water intrusion! A water loss leaves trapped moisture in building materials such as drywall, insulation, carpeting & sub floors. Water damaged buildings provide a “prime” environment for the growth and reproduction of bacteria & mold.

Some items which may need to be dried: • Drywall (water wicks up drywall from floor) • Hardwood flooring & sub floors • Carpet & pad • Baseboards & sill plates • Contents

Last year tens of thousands of US horses were forced to endure the ultimate of horrific deaths, slaughter.Once at the slaughterhouse, the suffering continues unabated. Horses are left for long periods in tightly packed trailers, subjected to further extremes of heat and cold. In hot weather, thirst is acute. Downed animals are unable to rise. All the horses are moved off forcibly when itʼs time to unload. Callous workers, using fiberglass rods or electric prods, poke and beat the horsesʼ faces, necks, backs and legs as they are shoved through the facility and into the kill box.Subject to extreme overcrowding, abuse, deafening sounds and the smell of blood, the horses become more and more desperate, exhibiting fear typical of “flight” behavior, pacing in prance-like movements with their ears pinned back against their heads and eyes wide open. Before having their throats slit, repeated blows with captive bolt pistols are often necessary to stun the animals. Terrified horses writhe in the holding stalls (known as the “kill box”), legs buckling under their weight after each traumatic, misguided and ineffective blow to their heads. Death, the final betrayal of these noble animals, is protracted and excruciating.

How can you help?

Do not sell your horse at an auction! • Many of the horses at auctions are bought by killer-buyers. Consider the following options instead.Donate your horse to an equine rescue • organization. Make arrangements with a retirement • farm; both with proper references and a detailed agreement that the horse will never be sold to slaughter.Donate, sell or lease your horse to a • therapeutic riding program.Sell the horse privately to an individual • with proper references and a detailed agreement (in writing) that the horse will never be sold to slaughter.
