INFANT SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

No: 3 - 15th November 2019

Pennys Lane, Fordingbridge, SP6 1HJ (01425 653624)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Clocks have been turned back and the nights are drawing in. May I ask all children, parents and carers to take extra care on the roads as they come and go from school each day.

Thank you to all those parents who took the time to fill out the questionnaires across both schools. We value your input and take all your comments (positive and areas for development) into consideration. Please may I remind parents that if you have specific concerns regarding your own child to please contact your child’s class teacher to discuss and find positive ways forward. Your child relies on our relationship to be honest and open so that they can reach their full potential.

Within the school day, across the Federation, we often talk to your children about having a Growth Mindset. We explore how the brain works, explain that it is a muscle and needs to be worked and stretched to get stronger. We look at the importance of challenging ourselves in order to succeed, not to accept mediocre but to strive for your best in everything. As I walk around the classrooms, I witness this in action. Children, with a growth mindset showing their willingness to embrace work that might be hard and needs effort to get right. I also see some children who easily give up that are fearful to take risks and challenge themselves. These children limit their own success. As teachers and parents, we need to be acknowledging that at times things are difficult to do but with determination, resilience and motivation new learning is possible. Praise hard work and effort rather than outcomes and children will recognise the importance of trying their best in all they have to do not only what they enjoy doing.

We have a busy few weeks ahead. Please make sure you add to your diaries all the dates so you don’t miss out on some of the activities coming up.

Yours sincerely Mrs Kim Robertson

Fordingbridge Together has successfully held the first gathering of Community Support individuals. These are people who are able to offer their skills, knowledge and expertise to local families. We are hoping to make stronger links between us all in order to give assistance and support in many areas of need. Today we had representatives from Community Nursing, Barnados, New Forest Support workers, CAP Life skills, Acts for

sharing, hArt for wellbeing and Salvation Army. As well as these representatives having an opportunity to meet and find out about each other, parents were able to speak directly about any present issues and hear more about unknown themes.

We are hoping that most of these people will come and speak in depth about their own skill area over the course of the year possibly at the end of Q and A sessions, so we encourage as many parents to come as possible.

Some of these Organisations will be offering courses over the school year. We hope to host many of these within the school premises by use of the Annexe. The Parentalk course for example begins on 13/11/19 so do hurry and put your name forward for that as soon as possible. A free course that offers help and support to parents is something that everyone can find benefit from.

There will be common themes and a chance to share and learn over refreshments.

If you receive your communications via email or text please sign up for the Gateway App. App messages cost nothing to send which helps us save money by cutting down on bulk texts.

Post Box

Sometimes it can get busy in the

school office, if you are just drop-

ping something in and there is a

queue please use the post box

opposite the desk under the mosa-

ic. This is checked everyday. If you

need to leave a message please

use the notebook provided by the

collection books and this can also

be posted.

Lunch boxes

The midday supervisors have mentioned that some children do not have very healthy lunchboxes with an increase of chocolates and sweets. Click on the following link to see some really good ideas for lunchboxes and sugar swaps.

https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes

Back Packs

We have noticed an increase in the use of back packs rather than book bags. Unfortunately we do not have the space to hang these on pegs and as such they are falling on the floor and causing a trip hazard while the children move around the school.

The PTA supplies all pupils with book bags when they start school and these should be brought to school everyday together with reading books/record, They are also used to transport any letters home.

We understand that when walking to school the children use their back packs to carry their book bag and water bottle but if possible these should be emptied at the classroom door and taken home.

All PE kits are kept in boxes in class and wet weather clothes should be in a named drawstring bag/carrier bag which fit on the pegs. Thank you for your support.

Christmas Performance ‘Everyone Loves a Baby’

The ticket order form is in book bags today and available on our website. Forms should be returned to the school office by Friday 22nd November.

We are collecting the tokens which are

available from the paper between 23/11

and 18/01. We need 3500 so please

ask your friends and family to get in-

volved and post them in the box by the

collection books in the school office and

help us get free Collins BIG CAT books

THANK YOU

CHRISTMAS POST BOX

From 2nd December children

may send Christmas cards to

their friends. Please ensure

that the envelopes are clearly

labelled with firstname,

surname and class of the

recipient - thank you

Calling all parents, grandparents and friends of the Fordingbridge Federation

We need you for our Christmas Fair!

This year’s Christmas Fair is on Tuesday 17th December from 3.15-5pm, in both schools.

Each class is in charge of a stall, and in order for the fair to run we really need helpers to run the stalls. It would only be for 15 minute / half an hour slots each, and the more helpers we have the less time each person will need to be on the stall! Children are very welcome to help too.

Teachers will have sign in sheets so please could you speak to your class teachers at the start or end of the day or pop into the school office to sign up. This would really a be appreciated!

We also need products for the stalls!

Hamper / Tombola prizes – please bring these in on 22/11/19 (non-uniform day in return)

Jolly Jars – Please bring in jolly jars on 29/11/19 (non-uniform day in return)

Secret Santa gifts – there will be a Secret Santa stall in juniors where the children can choose a gift and wrap it. Please bring in any unwanted gifts and give them in to either school office, from now until 9/12/19.

Cakes - There will be a cake stall in both schools. Please bring in cakes in the morning of 17/12/19, and deliver to either school office

If any parents would like their own stall as in previous years at the Fair could they please get in touch with a member of the PTA or via the email address ([email protected]).

Thank you in advance for your help, your support is vital and the children (adults!) really enjoy the fair.

Celebrations - 11th, 18th, 25th Oct & 8th Nov

We are always looking to celebrate our children; if you have a celebration to share please do let us know or the children

can share it with us at our Celebration Assembly on a Friday.
