Purpose and Hypothesis

Purpose: – Find trends in infant deaths in in

Section A of the Moiliili Japanese Cemetery.

– Possible causes. Hypothesis:

– Most of the infant deaths will be found to have occurred before they turn 1 because of their weaker constitutions.

– The deaths will show a trend in which timeframe most of them occurred.

Death Statistics 42% died before turning 1. 14% died at 1 years old. 11 % died at 2 years old. 5% died at both 3 and 4 years old.

Other Observations Some families had more than one

infant deaths. Majority of deaths occurred

between the 1910s and 1940s. Many families gave names to their

babies, but there were some who did not.
