The inet Transportation Management System (TMS)
real-time visibility into container management
Ramona Österleproduct manager
Managing containers transparently
The increasingly tight network of global business partners,
manufacturers, distributors, logistics service providers
and other supply chain parties places high demands on
the management of transportation containers. Any lack of
transparency and of a complete overview along the supply
chain leads to considerable additional costs and delays in
container management. A comprehensive overview of
relevant container demands, inventories and bookings is of-
ten missing. This frequently leads to critical supply situations
and makes quick and adequate responses difficult.
As an internationally operating software company, we
develop an integrated, scalable and flexible Transportation
Management System (TMS) with expertise, innovative
ideas and the courage to blaze new trails. This gives our
customers a clear lead – beyond standard.
Our Container Management solution offers you efficient
processes and functions that allow you to reliably, quickly
and economically realize your goals regarding the planning,
controlling, settlement and analysis of your container move-
ments, thus ensuring your competitive advantage.
visibility at its best.

From container planning to daily KPI reporting
Our Container Management solution supports even
very complex container processes in a simple and
audit-compliant way. From planning, sourcing, execu-
tion to analysis of container movements, you receive
a comprehensive picture of your container inventories
and costs.
This increased transparency enables the easy localiza-
tion of those nodes in the network that have either a
need for or a surplus of containers. This information is
processed in real-time.
Visibility brings greater reliability and lowers costs
Our Container Management solution guarantees
complete documentation and traceability of con-
tainer movements between network partners.
Container availability is thereby increased, pro-
duction disturbances due to container shortages
are avoided and material availability is increased.
On the other hand, no unnecessary commitment
of capital arises due to container surpluses. In
addition, network partners with especially high
resource demands can be identified and motivated
to cooperate more, e.g. by establishing an usage-
based container fee settlement. A definition of
maintenance intervals and the documentation of
maintenances already performed ensure that your
containers are checked as regularly as required.
inet Container Management offers:
Cost optimization by
reducing safety stock
reducing lead and waiting times
avoiding additional shipments or special
packaging
automating administrative processes
Increased reliability through
continuous replenishment of containers and
goods
one consistent and complete database
frictionless interaction and communication
KPI reports
Increased security and transparency through
early detection of shortages
optimal planning of container maintenances
Closing the loop – competence in each phase

The inet Container Management solution in detail
The modules of the Container Management solution
can be used individually and in combination. The
service-oriented architecture as well as certified
interfaces ensure that all processes can be combined
quickly, easily and efficiently with one another.
Furthermore, they can be implemented in existing
transportation management networks and linked
with the existing system.
Container Demands Planning
Determine container demands along the entire
supply chain
Our Container Demands Planning module determines
your container demands on the basis of individu-
ally definable ranges of coverage between suppliers
and individual locations. For the calculation of this
demand, data from external systems, as well as
entered orders or historical container movements
can be used.
On the basis of these values, estimated inventories of
the partners are calculated and minimum as well as
maximum inventories derived. If the inventories fall
short or are exceeded, alerts are triggered and for-
warded to the partners concerned. This foresighted
planning ensures that every partner has the required
inventories available at the right time and place.
The demand and inventory figures computed in the
module can be used as a valid basis for your invest-
ment planning.
Container Inventory Management
Keep track of your containers, maximum
trans parency for every partner
A continuous and most of all transparent inventory
management is the core of the Container Inventory
Management module. Hence, the number, quality
and location of your containers are visible at all
times. Your container inventories are managed using
accounts which can be viewed online. All container
movements are booked and are consequently docu-
mented and traceable. Inventory taking reconciles the
system’s inventory with the actual physical inven-
tory. A network-wide synchronization of inventories
and information is ensured by aligning the partners‘
accounts.
Even more detailed traceability of every container
movement offers an inventory management using
serial numbers. Identification technologies such as
barcode or RFID distinguish every container clearly,
thus making them locatable and their movements
traceable precisely at all times. This enables an ac-
curate container management, which also includes
the monitoring of locations and lead times in addi-
tion to conventional inventory management.
Container Scheduling
Schedule demands and delegate orders within
the network optimally
The Container Scheduling module enables the
scheduling based on container orders (pull princi-
ple) or based on automatically calculated deliveries
(push principle). In conjunction with the Container
Demands Planning module, automatic inventory-
based scheduling of containers is possible. The
scheduler can optimally schedule the available con-
tainer inventory based on orders or generated re-
plenishment orders. Partial or complete delegation
of orders to integrated partners within the network
that hold a container surplus is possible. Picking and
all un/loading processes are supported by corre-
sponding picking lists or loading lists. Based on the
container replenishment orders the transportation
orders can be generated directly either in Container
Management or transmitted to externals systems
via interfaces.

Visibility
Monitor container movements in real-time
The complete tracking of your mobile assets in real-
time via RFID, GPS and mobile telephony keeps your
container database always up to date. Equipped with
adequate sensor technology, these telematic solu-
tions provide reliable data on the exact locations
of your containers during the entire transportation
process. This translates into optimal visibility. Critical
data, e.g. the temperature profile for cool chain moni-
toring, is available online, which allows for timely
escalation management. In conjunction with tracking,
the actual transportation progression can be traced
in real-time and graphically displayed. Company-
specific rules can be defined for the monitoring of
individual processes and specifications, but also for
the early recognition of deviations. The same applies
for measures regarding notification processes and
escalation management.
Container Fee Settlement
Manage container fees transparently
In our Container Fee Settlement module, both individ-
ual rating models and the underlying stipulated costs
and fees are stored transparently and in detail. The
automated settlement based on your container move-
ments and inventories is carried out centrally at your
predefined time. The transaction and inventory data
is summarized in specified settlement intervals and
calculated in accordance with the conditions defined.
Depending on your business model, invoices or credit
notes can be generated.
Container Maintenance and Claims
Make maintenance and claims easy to handle
Our Container Maintenance module allows constant
overview of the required maintenance measures for
the containers. Furthermore, maintenance orders
that have already been carried out become traceable.
Maintenance intervals are defined based on either
time in operation or the number of container move-
ments. The time required to execute the individual
maintenance orders and the related documents can
be recorded in the system. This makes maintenance a
predictable cost factor.
Invoices, credit notes, delivery notes and complaints
can be stored in the Container Claims module for
every event. This results in optimal traceability for all
parties involved.
Transportation Analytics
Manage and analyze container movements centrally
The Transportation Analytics module makes it
possible to analyze all container movements. Daily
reports based on your predefined parameters
allow you to compare the actual movements in your
container network to their projected values.
Configurable dashboards with easy to understand
KPIs enable central controlling and easy access to
all relevant information. With the help of these KPIs,
you can monitor and analyze availabilities, inven-
tories, lead times, waiting times and the quality of
your containers.
