1/1
Everything new is newagain.
The change to the racingcircuit at City CentreAirport or the 2011 Indywas dramatic. Kind o
like changing the AnthonyHenday into Groat Road.Kind o the diferencebetween boating arounda lake and zipping down awaterslide.
Modern-day racing isall about gigabytes oinormation being calculatedby the corner. But great
drivers can adapt asquickly as they
turn those corners. Seat-o-the-pants still counts asmuch as the computers.
So the IndyCar driversshould have it all down pat, right?
Yes. And no. Some driverseven say both.
There are several newtwists that could/shouldafect the dynamics newchassis, new engines and
new tires. And, as i thosearent enough, Indy hasreinstituted one o thecoolest-ever things in racing the push to pass button.
Yeehaw.

Edmonton was so well known as ahigh-speed track. With it changingits become (a) very heavy braking
circuit. The push to pass isdesigned or overtaking and this
circuit already showed we hadmore overtaking.
I remember the second hairpin, really tight and a lot o incidents,
people outbrakingthemselves. And Turn10 was really bumpy, hard to get the gripthrough there.

I honestly loved the other track ast, very, very challenging, one o themost challenging we raced. The new
conguration is more or overtaking. Ina perect world Id like to have bothtogether! I we could make the two
(into one) it would be a dream.
To be completely honest, the older layout was more un
or us. Fast, the most physical track on the scheduleby a longshot. But it was very dicult to pass so theraces were oten processional. This new layout wasa completely diferent challenge. Add the new cars, the push to pass to the racing we saw herelast year this could be exciting.
Its pretty good because you can really
pass somebody (out o Turn 1), itssuch a hard braking zone. It denitelyunnels down there rom the start. The
new car has done somegood racing this year so itshould do it here, too.

You want to walk through the track tosee i the asphalt changed, i anything haschanged. Its not a permanent track, sosometimes the walls might be in a littlebit diferent place rom the notes wehave rom last year.
Its
braking.Thats thebig thing with thelong straightaways brakings crucial(but) you still needhorsepower. (Itllalso change) with thesoter street racingtire. I think, last year, the tires were a little
hard orthistrack.

When the crashing, col-lapsing and calamities n-ished up two weeks agoat the oronto Indy, RyanHunter-Reay gained rmhold o the IndyCar spotlight
with his third win in a row.A similar IndyLights
race helped raise the pro-le o Guastavo Yacaman.
Te checkered fag o his
season helped push himup into ourth, while team-mates and season leadersEsteban Guerrieri and ris-tan Vautier made contacton the rst lap in oronto.
Te Maple Lea addedanother national fag tothe list o countries Yaca-man has stood on the topstep o the podium.
I got started go karting inColombia, in my home coun-try, said the 21-year-old onTursday as he surveyed thetrack at City Centre Airport.
I won ve nationalchampionships out osix. And the one I didnt
win, I nished second. It was obviously time to
step up another level.
I moved to Brazil andnished third in theirnational championship.
Hes also notched go-kart championships inthe U.S. as well as ormulaseries wins in Spain beorearriving in IndyLights.
Te experience in Bra-zil was key, Yacaman said.
It was a huge kart-
ing nation, a huge kart-ing culture. A lot o Bra-zilian race cars drivers, as
you know, started there. Ilearned a lot that year.
Te Colombian didnthesitate in naming a Bra-zilian as racing idol.
Ayrton Senna.I think 90% o driv-
ers would say that.
