INDUSTRY ACTIVITIES HBS Equipment Corp., La Mirada, Calif., has announced the expansion of its production facilities in La Mirada to provide the company with a 25% in- crease in manufacturing floor space, which should result in reduced deliv- ery lead times. The expansion was ini- tiated in response to a substantial in- crease in demand for high technology automatic plating systems. Engelhard Corp., Iselin, N.J., has completed its acquisition of Mearl Corp. The Mearl business will become part of Engelhard’s Pigments and Ad- ditives Group where it will broaden the company’s existing capabilities. ResinTech Inc., Cherry Hill, N.J., has announced the purchase of 6 acres of land together with a 16,000 ft2 building as part of a planned expansion of production, warehouse, and office facilities. The new building, located at 1980 Old Cuthbert Rd., Cherry Hill, N.J., will serve as ResinTech’s corpo- rate offices and expanded warehouse facilities. The acquisition also provides ResinTech additional space to allow for the expansion of the production facilities now located at 61.5 Deer Rd. General Magnaplate Corp., Lin- den, N.J., has been named as one of the first four small businesses to partici- pate in OSHA’s pilot Voluntary Protec- tion Program (VPP). Only companies that have demonstrated willingness and ability to comply with OSHA stan- dards and regulations can qualify for the program, which, if granted, gives participants the right to self-monitor their OSHA compliance and be exempt from routine OSHA inspections. Small companies must be mentored by a par- ticipating large company in order to qualify. Exxon Chemical Co., also in Linden, is the mentor for the N.J. pilot program. Hubbard-Hall Inc., Wilmington, Mass., has opened a new warehouse and sales center in Schenectady, N.Y. The new operation has over 13,000 ft’ of warehouse space and will stock a full line of industrial chemicals and solvents as well as the company’s spe- cialty chemicals for surface prepara- tion and wastewater treatment.
