Introduction

• AAI IS AN ORGANISATION WORKING UNDER THE MINISTERY OF CIVIL AVIATIONS.

• Formed on 1st April 1995 under the Act of Parliament.

• Creates, upgrade, maintain & manages civil aviation infrastructure.

• It manages a total of 126 Airports.

COMMUNICATION

GROUND TO AIR GROUND TO GROUND

Communication refers to sending, receiving and processing of information by electronic means.

COMMUNICATION

Page 7: Industrial Training at Airports Authority of India

COMMUNICATION

Ground to Ground: Communication among Stations on Ground.

Ground To Air: Between Pilot and the Air Traffic Controller.

Air to Air : Between the Pilots of two aircrafts in the air.

Page 8: Industrial Training at Airports Authority of India

COMMUNICATION

HF or VHF is used for communication between controller and pilot.

Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN) is used for communication among Ground Stations

AFTN uses basic Copper Wire as communication media.

Navigation

Navigation is the 'ART' of determining the position of an aircraft over earth's surface and guiding its progress from one place to another.

To accomplish this ART, some sort of ‘AIDS' are required by the PILOTS.

INSTRUMENT LANDING

SYSTEM The Instrument Landing System (ILS) provides a

means for safe landing of aircraft at airports underconditions of low ceilings and limited visibility.

The use of the system materially reducesinterruptions of service at airports resulting frombad weather by allowing operations to continue atlower weather minimums.

The ILS also increases the traffic handling capacityof the airport under all weather conditions.

Instrument Landing System

Guides the aircraft as to where to land on the runway

System comprises of two parts:

Localizer Glide Path

Page 13: Industrial Training at Airports Authority of India

Localizer

Used to find Centre Line ofrunway. Uses LPDA Used Freq. Range is 108-112MHz. Located at around 1200-1500 feet away from the end of Runway. Range : 10-20 NM

Page 14: Industrial Training at Airports Authority of India

Glide Path

It gives the Glide angle i.e. AngleOf Descent.Range:- 10 NM(-8 to +8 degrees) Safe glide angle:- 2-4 degrees

DME : Distance Measuring Equipment

Aircraft use DME to determine their distance from a land-based transponder

Page 20: Industrial Training at Airports Authority of India

DME is used in navigational aid which provide a pilotwith visual info regarding his position(distance)

related to ground base DME station. The frequency rangeused for DME is between 960 MHz to1215 MHz . This frequency is usedBecause it has better frequency stability comparative tonext higher frequencies in microwave band. It has lessreflection and attenuation.

DVOR : Doppler VHF Omni Range

VHF Omni range measures the angular orientation of the aircraft with respect to the Magnetic North.

SURVEILLANCE

The act of watching ormonitoring the behavioractivities, or otherchanging information.

Surveillance may beapplied to observationfrom a distance bymeans of electronicequipment.

RADAR

Radars are employed throughout theworld for the purpose of safelycontrolling air traffic en-route and inthe vicinity of airports.

Aircraft as well as vehicular traffic atlarge airports are monitored bymeans of high-resolution radar.

Radar has also been used to guideaircraft to a safe landing in badweather.

X -rays are used in x-ray baggage systems.

In this a baggage put in scanner ,then it

would show colour according to material.

EXPLOSIVE TRACE DETECTOR

Narcotic/Explosive Detector is used to detect thepresence of any narcotics or explosive materials.
