The Common European Framework (CEF) is a system of level indicators for language courses that is used throughout . Each language course is described on the basis of CEF levels so that

students can clearly see which level of proficiency is required at the beginning of the course and which level of proficiency will be achieved after successful completion of the course.

Beginner A1

Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can

introduce him/her and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and

things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Elementary

Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family

information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of

information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters

in areas of immediate need. A2

Pre-intermediate

Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure etc. Can deal with

most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which

are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, and briefly give reasons and

explanations of various options.

B1

Intermediate

Can understand the main areas of complex test on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of

specialization. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without

strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the

advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Upper-intermediate B2

Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognize implicit meaning. Can express him/her fluently and spontaneously

without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.

Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organization patterns, connectors and

cohesive devices.

Advanced C1

Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarize information from different spoken and written sources,

reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely,

differentiating finer shades of meaning even in most complex situations.

General English

The most popular course at am Language Studio is designed to give students a solid introduction to the English language and devotes special attention to grammar, vocabulary building, conversation

and pronunciation. While conventional texts and audio equipment form the basis of the lesson structure, teachers encourage language use through role-play, problem solving, discussions and story

telling. The group element allows participants to benefit from trying out and practising language structures on their fellow students.

Intensive English

By devoting more hours to tuition students can give their English a kick-start in a relatively short period of time. Students follow the General English Course and have a further 2 sessions per day of 45

minutes each. They are given the opportunity to consolidate their General English studies and have further options to cover new ground.

Individual lessons offer students the opportunity to make their learning more focused and pertinent to their needs. With 1 to 1 lessons students have the full and continuous attention of the teacher and

the time to practise and go over areas of their choice, thus speeding up the learning process. The Individual Course is fairly flexible in that students can choose the number and duration of sessions

according to their own preferences.

Our Long Stay Courses offer students the opportunity to practise and develop their English language more thoroughly over an extensive period

of time, focusing on fluency, grammar, vocabulary, conversation and pronunciation. Using modern course books and a wide range of our

resource materials, they can expect to participate in pair and group work and take on an active role in the classroom. While conventional texts

and audio equipment form the basis of the lesson structure, teachers encourage language use through role-play, problem solving, discussions

and story telling.

The courses are designed to help students improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, increase their English vocabulary and

give them more confidence with the English language. They put the knowledge they gain in class to everyday use and make steady progress

through each level.

Students can follow either the General English Course or the Intensive English Course. They are offered at all levels and in periods of 8, 12, 24

and 36 weeks. The longer the course the better the prospects of becoming fluent in the English language!

With the world fast becoming a smaller place, it is now more common for non-native English speakers to attend an English-speaking university or to migrate

to an English-speaking country. Students interested in sitting for an internationally recognised examination can take an Examination Preparation Course with am Language Studio covering the major

examinations; the Cambridge Examination Courses plus IELTS, TOEFL, TOLES and WEFT. These courses are available all year round.

Courses can be booked for any number of weeks, depending on the examination and the needs and level of the applicant. Spread over 20, 25 or 30 sessions a week, each session being 45 minutes

long, participants focus on grammar awareness and use of language. They develop their four skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking and also concentrate on more specific examination

subject requirements.

Each course includes: 20 sessions per week of General English Language Development focusing on grammar, vocabulary and fluency skills. 5/10 sessions per week of Examination

Preparation focusing on specific examination stylistic requirements.

Specifically designed General English course that consists of 4 sessions every morning from 09:00 to 12:30 in our Junior College. Students take lessons at one of Malta’s leading

private schools, which is only used by International Teenagers learning English in Malta with am Language Studio. Here students are able to mix with an international student body

in a secure environment that nurtures English language learning. The centre has a dedicated Academic Coordinator. Our teachers are all licensed and qualified to teach English to

students of this age.

Accommodation:

Accommodation in an am Language Residence in Sliema – Sharing on Full Board (including packed lunch). Offers excellent facilities including a lovely swimming pool, a cinema

room, internet access and a games room. Students stay in air-conditioned triple / quad rooms with TV and en suite bathroom facilities.

Leaders give 24 hour care and provided at a ratio of 1 social leader per 15 students. Bed linen and towels are provided (students should bring their own beach towels). Normally

linen is changed a minimum of once a week and towels are changed daily. Laundry can be provided upon request at an extra charge.

Our activity programme is carefully designed to encourage students to make the most of their leisure time in our great Mediterranean climate. These activities are designed to allow

participants to spend time outdoors, learning about Malta, having fun and, of course, practicing their English with other students of the same age.

am Language Studio offers courses in the English language at 6 levels; Beginner (A1), Elementary (A1 - A2), Pre-intermediate (A2 - B1),

Intermediate (B1), Upper-intermediate (B2) and Advanced (C1).


Placement test is completed on the first day of school.

In the event that only one student applies for a particular course then am Language Studio will apply the Reduced Hours Procedure as

the road to new opportunities. Our Kids Camp gives young learners (8 to 12 years old) the chance to start to learn English in the sunny, safe

An am Language Studio apartment is your best option for cost-effective, independent accommodation while learning English in Malta. You have the privacy of your own space and

the opportunity to cook your own meals while enjoying the company of other students from different countries. Our apartments are centrally located and close to local amenities like

cafés, bars, restaurants, shops and buses and all are within walking distance of am Language Studio (maximum distance 15 minutes on foot) unless specified otherwise. Electricity

and water meter readings will be taken every week and charges will be divided between the number of students sharing the apartment. Bed sheets and towels are supplied to

students. Students are responsible for cleaning their own apartments. Students booking a shared apartment must book an arrival taxi transfer with am Language Studio. This will

ENROLMENT PROCEDURE

In order to ensure that your booking process runs smoothly, please read the following procedures and keep to these guidelines when placing your booking with am Language Studio.

Once we have this information we will be able to check for availability. Once availability is confirmed, am Language Studio will issue, within 24 hours of receipt of your details, a confirmation of availability with the corresponding quotation.

Once the quote is issued by am Language Studio it will be valid for a period of 48 hours, during which time it must be confirmed by you. Confirmation will only be issued upon receipt of flight details, copy of valid passport covering dates of enrolment

and passport sized photo in BITMAP (.bmp) format. In order to confirm your booking 25% deposit has to be settled on application and 75% balance has to be settled 2 weeks prior to your arrival. If it is not confirmed with FULL information, including

flight details and all other information as requested on our enrolment form, the provisional booking will automatically fall and will be cancelled with no charge.

Booking guidelines apply unless a specific amendment is made and confirmed by school stamp and signature.

confidentiality of your information am Language Studio makes use of SSL technology when effecting your transaction. SSL technology is designed so that the information you enter on your browser is encrypted before being transmitted. Put simply,

all the information you enter when purchasing a service or product online at www.amlanguage.com can only be read by us, thus it is protected and secure. Such information will be processed by am Language Studio for billing purposes and to help us

deliver our services as efficiently as possible. In addition to using SSL, all credit card numbers are used solely for the processing of payments and are not stored by amlanguage.com.

Cancellation Policy:

In the event that you cancel your booking prior to students’ arrival, the following charges will apply:

More than 7 days notice: 25% of your total cost as a cancellation fee.

7 to 3 days notice: 30% of your total cost as a cancellation fee.

Less than 3 days notice: the full price will be charged.

No refunds are given after commencement of the respective English course, accommodation or any other services.

No course changes will be allowed to make up for refunds in the case of course cancellations.

In case of a student visa refusal, am Language Studio will charge 120.00 Euro cancellation fee. This will cover registration, placement and other administration charges.

In the case of Online Payments the remaining balance will be credited to the same credit card that made the original payment.

Any changes to confirmed bookings will be considered as cancellations, therefore cancellation policies will apply. Where possible am Language Studio will try to be flexible subject to availability. Any such changes will incur a cost of 50.00Euro for

Administration expenses.

Visas: am Language Studio offers students support in the application for visas. Through an agreement made with the Maltese government students coming to Malta on an English language programme may apply for a visa provided that all the

supporting documentation is presented. Please see our Visa Application Guidelines for more details.

Placement Test: Adults - You will be sent a Placement Test to complete to determine your level of English. This test must be returned to us prior to arrival. Failure to return the test will mean completing the test on your first day at school resulting in


Teenagers / Kids – you will be given a placement Test on your first day of school

Lesson Times: Lessons are held in the morning.

Accommodation: am Language Studio offers students various accommodation options which include Host Families, Shared Self-catering Apartments and 3, 4, 5 star hotels. Meal plans will vary depending on the type of accommodation you choose.

Where meals are provided, Half Board generally means Continental Breakfast and Set Menu Dinner and Full Board generally means Continental Breakfast, Packed or Plated Lunch and Set Menu Dinner. Please refer to your individual

Accommodation Profile for more details.

Taxi transfer: Please ensure that you are waiting for your taxi at the prearranged time as indicated in your acceptance letter. amLS will try to contact you on the mobile phone number you provide in your enrolment form. If we do not manage to get

through to you, the taxi will wait for a maximum of 20 minutes from pick-up time and will then leave. At this point it will be your responsibility to get to your destination and amLS will not refund you for your booked transfer nor any expenses incurred.

Complaints Procedure: If, at any time throughout their course, students are not happy with any area of their stay, they are to fill in a Complaint Form which they may obtain from Reception. An End-of-Stay Evaluation Form will also be given to

students to evaluate the level of satisfaction of our customers at the end of their programme.

No complaint can be accepted by am Language Studio after the end of the relevant course if it has not been brought to our attention as explained above.

Expulsion: am Language Studio expects all its students to be well-motivated, polite and considerate towards members of staff, host families and fellow students at all times.

am Language Studio reserves the right to ask any student who does not comply with any of the above to leave the course. In this case, no refund of fees will be made and any extra costs incurred by the school on the behalf of the student will be

charged to the student.

Photographs: Students may be photographed by our leisure team during their stay. Should you wish to ensure that no photographic material taken of you by our staff is used in any format on any of our social media please send an email bringing

this to our attention on [email protected]

Loss of Property/Insurance: am Language Studio will not be held responsible for loss or theft of any student’s property from the school or accommodation or from any other location. Student’s property is the sole responsibility of the student at all

times. am language Studio advises students to take out a travel insurance policy which would cover them throughout their stay in Malta. Contact us for Insurance quotations.

Reduced Hours: In the event that only one student applies for a particular course am Language Studio will apply the reduced hours procedure. Alternatively the full number of sessions can be taken for the supplement amount as indicated below.

Public Holidays :

10th February, 19th March, 31st March, 14th April, 1st May, 7th June, 29th June, 15th August, 8th September, 21st September, 8th December, 13th December.

am Language Studio will be closed on every public holiday. When lessons fall on a public holiday any lost lesson time will be spread over the remaining days of the same week.

am Language Studio will be closed over these days:

18th December 2017 up to the 1st January 2018

Force Majeure: In the event that am Language Studio is unable to fulfil any of its obligations as a result of an event/events beyond am Language Studio’s reasonable control, am Language Studio will not accept

responsibility or liability. Such events will include (however will not be limited to); terrorist attacks, war or the threat of war, riots, industrial action, natural or manmade disasters, unusually adverse weather conditions or any

other event/events that may classify Malta as an “at risk destination” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kids / Teenage Bookings: kids/teenage bookings. am Language Studio will not be held responsible for the behaviour and safety of your client throughout the entire duration of this enrolment when the booking package

being requested from us, does not include am Language Studio supervision. Kids / Teenage bookings are subject to policies and conditions as indicated in our am Language Studio Easter, Summer or Autumn Kids /

Teenage Guidelines. Please read these carefully before choosing this option. Please see below. They are also available on our website at www.amlanguage.com.
