Social Psychological Concepts

In this journal, I have related the social psychological concepts -- "schemas" from what kind

of social behavior that I have observed in the social settings. In the photo above, it shows

there are some female and male figures facing their head towards their phones as they are

scrolling their smartphones at the restaurant. Most of them are using their phones to

"Facebook", "Whatsapp", "Instagram", "Twitter" and etc. Before year 2010, less people

owned a smartphone. The social situation at a restaurant should be the customers walked into

the restaurant and they find a seat before they order their food. After that, they will be served

by a waiter or waitress and order their food. Then, they are going to chit chat face to face that

includes eye contacts. When the food is served, they will start to enjoy their meal. In this new

era of technology, almost everyone own a smartphone. This has changed the schemas at a

restaurant. After the customers find their seats and settle down, the first thing we do is take

out their phones and start scrolling it. When the food is served, they will take photos of the

food and post it on social network before they eat it. They literally stare at their phones

during the meal. They rarely have eye contacts and conversation. The interaction between

human is decreasing. These schemas also come with a perseverance effect which is the

tendency for beliefs and schemas to remain unchanged despite the contradictory information.

For example, some of the elders that are age of 55-60 also concentrate on their smartphones

during the meal. I thought they will be the one that advise the younger generation not to hold

their phones during the meals.
