A On 11 July 1944, a 3-24H with a era" of ten memhers departed from Horsham, St Fa i th , " Ho r f o i k , England on a combat mission to ^ c h . ! l c T m ^ ' i . . The nlane d id not j o i n the formation and was never seen nor heard from a f t e r i t l e f t " tto base, which was l ess than twenty miles from the coast of the -Torth Sea. The course of f l i g h t f o r the mission would have car r ied the crew over the Horth Sea. An extensive f i e l d invest igat ion was conducted from England to the target area, Munich, Germany, but no trace was found of ei ther the plane or the members of the crow. The Germans recorded the downing of any a l l i e d -olanes and l i s t e d the names of thc ..-ew members, when ava i l ao l c . A thorou^i search of these csptured German records has heen made, but no record was found of the subject c r a f t , or thfi names of any of the memocrs of thc crew. Thc plane d id not crash i n England. Therefore, the plane must have either crashed or landed in the Horth Sea. The Horth Sea, over which the plane would have flown on th i s mission, i s quite rough with strong currents; the water i s also quite cold throughout the year. Therefore, while no de ta i l s of thc actual crash of thc piano are ava i l ab l e , the known facta loaft to no other l o g i c a l conclusion than that i t went down witn i t s entire crew into the Horth Sea, Search could not bo conducted f o r the crew, since thc a^roximatc area where they were los t was unknovm. Even i f any ox tne crew members had time to b a i l out of the c ra f t or wore 'thrown c lear , tney could not have survived any length of timo i n thc very rough, cold waters and strong currents p r e v a i l i n g on th is route. In view of the foregoing fac t s together vdth the f a c t that the crev; were not rescued by tno a l l i e d forces , and there was no record of the i r Eseue or capture by the Germans, thc only l o g i c a l conclusion wliich cam he reached i s that the entire crew of the subject plane perished when the i r plane crashed i n thc Horth Sea on 11 July 1944.
5. I t i s recommended, therefore, that pursuant to the provis ions of Section 9, Miss ing Persons Act, the foregoing information ^ ^ J ^ * ! 4 * ' an o f f i c i a l report of death, and that a casualty report be i n i t i a t e d s tat ing that thc o f f i c e r s and en l i s t ed men named i n paragraph 1 above, "0X0 m i o d i n action when the i r -olame crashed in the Horth Sea on 11 Ju ly 1944; .and that
