GETTING STARTED Seat Belts

Seat Belts

Occupants safety is of utmostimportance. Your car is equipped withseat belts, both front and rear as apart of occupant restraint system.

Why Seat Belts

Wearing seat belts properly canprotect you from being thrown againstthe insides of the car or against otheroccupants in case of an accident orsudden braking. It will reduce thechances of severe injury.

How to use seat belts

This car has three point inertia reeltype front and rear seat belts in theout board positions and a lap belt formiddle passenger on rear seat. Innormal driving, the belt lets you movefreely in your seat. In case of anaccident or sudden braking, inertiareel automatically tightens the belt tohelp restrain your body.

1. Seat Belt 3. Lock Buckle2. Tongue 4. Lap Belt

The anchor end of the shoulder beltis adjustable to suit the height of thepassenger wearing it. The lap belt hasone manually adjusted belt that fitsacross the hip bone.

Make sure that your seat is adjustedto a good driving position and the backof the seat is upright.1. Pull the tongue across your body

and insert it into the buckle.

2. Check and ensure that the belt isnot twisted.

2

1

34

Twisted seat belts can cause injuryin a collision as the full width of thebelt isn’t available to absorb theimpact. This puts more force on thebones beneath the belt, leading toinjury. Don’t wear twisted seat belts.

3. Position the lap portion of the beltas low as possible across your hipbone.

4. Pull up the shoulder part of the beltto remove the slack. Make sure thatthe belt goes over your collar bonesand across chest.

5. To unlatch the belt, press the redbutton on the buckle. Guide thebelt to the pillar as it retracts.

WARNING

Lap belt

Pull the tongue to the desired length.Insert it into the buckle until you heara click.Adjust the belt length. To lengthen thebelt, hoId the tongue at a right angleto the webbing and pull. To shorten, pull the loose end of the webbing. To unfasten, depress the button in thebuckle.

GETTING STARTEDSeat Belts

WARNINGUsing one seat belt for more thanone person at a time is dangerous.A seat belt used in this way cannotspread the impact forces properlyand the two passengers could becrushed together and seriouslyinjured. Never use one belt for morethan one person at a time.

10.The belts if required should bereplaced, by Authorised personnelonly.

11.The belt should not bedisassembled. If required, authorised personnel only shouldcarry out disassembly andassembly.

12.Clean the webbing with a mild soapsolution recommended for upholstery.Bleaching or dyeing the webbingmay weaken it.

WARNINGImproper positioning of the belt onshoulder is dangerous. Animproperly positioned belt willprovide little or no protection in acollision. Always make sure theseat belt is positioned across yourshoulder and near your neck, butnever under your arm. on your neck,or on your upper arm.

6. The belts are meant (intended) foradult occupants only.

7. Each belt should be used by oneoccupant only. The belt must notbe put round a child, seated onpassengers lap.

8. When the belt has been in use ina serious accident or shows signsof severe fraying / damage or ofhaving been cut, replace with anapproved belt kit.

9. The belt must not be altered ormodified during use.

Positioning the lap portion of theSeat Belt too high can bedangerous as in a collision, thiswould concentrate the impactforce directly on the abdominalarea, causing serious injury. Wearthe lap portion of the belt snuglyand as low as possible.

GETTING STARTED Seat Belts

TATA MOTORS strongly urges thatthe driver and passengers in the carbe properly restrained at all times withseat-belts. Failure to do so couldincrease the chance of injury and /or the severity of injury in accidents.

Baby or Small Child:

Use a child restraint systemappropriate for the child until he / sheis old enough to wear the car’s seatbelt properly. If the child is too big for

a child restraint system, he / sheshould be seated on the car’s backseat restrained using the car’s seat-belt.

Use the seat-belt when the child is inthe rear seat also. According toaccident statistics, a child is saferwhen properly restrained in the rearseat than in the front seat.

For Airbag Equipped Cars:• Rear Seat is the SAFEST for

children.• Never put rearward facing child

restraints on front seat unless thepassenger airbag is deactivated. This is very important and if notfollowed, it can lead to a seriousinjury or even death.

• Do not use a forward facing childrestraint system in the front seatof the car, unless the passengerairbag is deactivated.

General Guidelines:• Children below 12 years are

always safe in child restraints. • Refer child restraint

manufacturer’s instructions forinstallation.

• Select the child restraint based onthe weight of the child. Age shouldbe used as a reference.

• Rearward facing child restraintsare preferred for children withweight less than 9kg or until theycan sit themselves without any aid.

GETTING STARTEDAir Bag

Expectant Mothers: Driver Air Bag and Passenger AirBag: (Supplementary RestraintSystems-If Applicable)

addition to seat belts to help protectagainst head and chest injuries incertain moderate and severe frontaland front angular collisions. The air bag system is not visible untilit is activated. Because the systemsenses crash severity, some frontal/angular collisions will not inflate theAir bags. Airbags are not designed toinflate in rollover, rear side or slowspeed frontal/ angular crashesbecause the necessary protection canbe achieved by the seat belt alone.

Operation :Sensors in the ECU detect the degreeof severity of frontal/ angular impact. The air bag(s) are designed to deployif the collision suits the criteria fordeployment.• The sensor switches close the

circuit and nitrogen gas isproduced that fills the air bag byburning the propellant.

TATA MOTORS recommends the useof a seat-belt. Kindly consult yourdoctor for specific recommendation. The lap belt should be worn securelyand as low as possible over the hipsand the waist.

Injured person :TATA MOTORS recommends the useof a seat-belt for injured person.Depending on the injury, consult yourdoctor for specific recommendations.

Your vehicle is fitted with an air bagfor the driver, located in the steeringwheel, and a passenger air bag islocated above the glove boxcompartment. Vehicles fitted with anair bags can be identified by the “AIRBAG” label on the steering wheel. The air bag is supplementary restraintsystem. It is designed to be used in

Page 98: Indigo Manza Quadrajet / Safire

96

• The inflating air bag deploys outof the steering wheel in the frontof the driver and passenger air bagof the dash board in front of thepassenger. This action takes placein a fraction of second.

• The bag(s) deflate as the gasescapes through the vents.

• Airbag(s) may only deploy with theignition switch in ON position. Thesystem will however work for about30 seconds immediately afterswitching OFF of ignition. You mayhear a noise along with somesmoke, dust and smell of burntpropellant immediately after the airbag has inflated. DO NOT PANICas this is normal.

• Passenger Air Bag (PAB) switchprovided on the left side of thedashboard should always beACTIVE. If in case the frontpassenger seat is unoccupied, thePAB may be prevented fromdeploying by turning the PAB

switch to INACTIVE by using theignition key.

CAUTION• Air bag systems components get

hot after inflation, Do not touchafter inflation.

• For persons suffering frombreathing problems or asthma, getout of the car promptly for somefresh air as the smoke may causebreathing problems.

• Always turn the PAB switch to“PAB” in case the front passengerseat is occupied.

• Always wear seat belts. Thewearing of seat belts is requiredeven when the air bag is fitted. Airbags do not replace the seat belts.

• Do not allow a front seatpassenger to obstruct theoperation of the passenger airbagby placing feet, knees of anyother part of the person, or anyother objects in contact with, orin close proximity to, an air bagmodule.

GETTING STARTED Air Bag

Page 99: Indigo Manza Quadrajet / Safire

97

The importance of wearing seatbelts :• It will help to keep you in the proper

position when the air bag inflates.• Reduce the risk of harm in rollover,

side or rear impact collisions.• Reduce the risk of harm in frontal/

angular collisions that are notenough to activate the air bag.

• Reduce the risk of being thrownfrom your vehicle in a collision.

The importance of being properlyseated:To protect occupants in a collision, theair bag inflates at a rate that is fasterthan you can blink your eye.• If you are too close to an inflating

air bag, it could seriously injureyou, Move your seat as far backas practical to allow room for airbag inflation. Never install anyrearward facing child seat

• Always wear your car's seat beltscorrectly as they can prevent youfrom accidental injury when the airbags inflate. In addition, both driverand front seat passenger (If apassenger air bag is fitted), shouldadjust their seats to providemaximum practical distance fromthe air bag.

• An air bag, when it inflates maycause injury. Minimise the risk ofinjury by ensuring that front seatoccupants are wearing their seatbelts and are seated correctly, with the seat as far back as ispractical.

• DO NOT service, repair, replace, modify or tamper with part of theair bag SRS, or wiring in thevicinity of an air bag SRScomponent; this could cause thesystem to activate, resulting inpersonal injury.

GETTING STARTEDAir bag

restraint in the front seat whenthe passenger air bag is active,as serious injury or death mayresult from the force of theinflating front passenger airbag. The rear seat is the safestplace for children.

• Never place any object in front ofyou while you are seated in thefront seat as it may result an injuryfrom the object when it is forcedtowards you by the inflating air bag.Do not cover the steering wheel orinstrument panel with an objectwhich may prevent the properdeployment of the air bag.

• Where a passenger air bag is fitted, front passenger should never sit onthe edge of the seat, stand nearthe glove box compartment, restfeet or other parts of the body onthe dash board or lean over nearthe glove compartment when thevehicle is moving.

Air Bag Warning Light:

The diagnostic system continuallymonitors the readiness of the SRSAIR BAG while the vehicle is beingdriven. The air bag warning light onthe instrument panel will illuminatefor approximately 5 seconds whenthe ignition is switched on. This isnormal and indicates the system isperforming a self check. Thefollowing components are monitoredby the indicator :• Airbag control module - ECU• Driver airbag• Passenger air bag• Retractor Pretensioners.• All related wiring.

If the warning light does not illuminatewhen ignition is switched on, orremains illuminated after the initialcheck period & during driving, orflashes, a fault may exists with air bag& seat belt pre-tensioner and it shouldbe checked by an authorized dealerimmediately.

Air bag maintenance & servicing :If any of the following occur, see yourAuthorised dealer without any delayfor corrective action.• The air bag warning light does not

operate briefly when the ignitionkey is turned on.

• The air bag warning light illuminateswhile driving.

Though your car's air bag systemdoes not require regular maintenance, you should always check when awarning about malfunction is flashedon the instrument cluster. If this is notattended to, the air bag system maymalfunction in the event of a collision.Conversely, it may deploy even if thereis no collision.

NOTICE• Any maintenance performed on

or near the components of theSRS must be performed only byan authorized dealer. Do not

permit anyone else to do service, inspection, maintenance or repairon any SRS components orwiring.

• Similarly, no part of the SRSsystem should ever be handledor disposed of by anyone exceptan authorized dealer. Improperwork on the SRS system willresult in inadvertent deploymentof the air bag or could render theSRS system inoperative. Thiscould also lead to personal injury.

• Do not modify your steering wheelor any other SRS components,For example replacement ofsteering wheel or modifications tothe steering column, frontbumper, body or frame structurecan adversely affect the SRSperformance and lead to possibleinjury.

• If your vehicle has received anyfront end damage, you shouldhave the SRS system inspectedby an authorized dealer to ensureit is in proper working order.

The air bag will inflate only once. The inflated air bag system will notfunction again and steering wheelwith air bag module, steeringcolumn (if collapsed), seat beltsand control module must bereplaced immediately. If passengerair bag gets deployed, air bagassembly, air bag cover, seat beltsand dash panel must be replaced. If they are not replaced, it mayincrease the risk of injury in acollision.• Do not attempt to service, repair,

or modify the air bag system, anytampering will result in activationof the system and increase therisk of personal injury. ForServicing the air bag system, seeyour authorized dealer.

• Do not use chemical solvents orstrong detergents when cleaningthe steering wheel or instrumentpanel to avoid contamination of theair bag system. Wiping with adamp cloth only is recommended.

• When you transfer ownership of thevehicle to some other person, weurge you to alert the new owner thatthe vehicle is equipped with SRSsystem and read the applicablesections in the owners manual.

• If you wish to junk or scrap thevehicle, we urge you to first takethe vehicle to an authorized dealerso that the SRS system can berendered safe.

ABS (Anti- Lock Braking System)(if provided):

GETTING STARTED Anti-Lock Braking System

The purpose of the anti-lock brakingsystem (ABS) is to prevent the wheelsfrom locking when braking, therebyenabling the driver to retain steeringcontrol of the car.

Under normal braking conditions(where sufficient road surface frictionexists to reliably bring the car to astop without the wheels locking), ABSwill not be activated. However, if thebraking force exceeds the availableadhersion between the tyres and theroad surface causing the wheels tolock (for example, on slippery roads),then ABS will automatically getactivated.

This will be felt by a rapid pulsationfelt through the brake pedel.

Braking in an Emergency:In an emergency situation, the drivershould apply full braking effort evenwhen the road surface is slippery. TheABS will constantly monitor therotational speed of the wheels and willvary the braking pressure to eachwheel according to the amount oftraction available. This will ensure thatthe wheels do not lock and the car isbrought to a stop in the shortestpossible distance for the prevailingroad surface conditions.

CAUTIONDO NOT pump the brake pedal whendriving, this will interrupt operation ofthe ABS and may incease thebraking distance

WARNING• ABS cannot overcome the physical

limitations of stopping the car intoo a short distance, cornering attoo high a speed, or the danger ofaquaplaning, i.e when a layer ofwater prevents adequate contactof the tyres and the road surface.

• The fact that a car is fitted withABS must never tempt the driverinto taking risks that could affecthis/her safety or that of other roadusers. In all cases, it remains thedriver's responsibility to drive withinnormal safety margins, having dueconsideration for prevalling weatherand traffic conditions.

Page 103: Indigo Manza Quadrajet / Safire

101

GETTING STARTEDAnti-Lock Braking System

NOTICEOn soft surfaces, such as powderyshow, sand or gravel, the brakingdistance required by the ABS maybe greater than for non-ABSbraking, even though improvedsteering would be experienced. Thisis because the natural action oflocking wheels on soft surfaces isto build up a wedge of surfacematerial in front which assists thecar to stop.

No matter how hard you brake, youshould be able to continue steeringthe vehicle as NORMAL.

However, always remember that theABS operates only AFTER the driverhas already lost control. ABS cannotreliably compensate for driver error orinexperience.

ABS Warning Light:

The ABS incorporates a monitoringsystem, which checks that all theelectrical components are in workingorder as soon as the starter switch isturned ON, and also at frequentintervals during a journey.

The warning light on the instrumentpanel is an important part of thissystem. The light should come ONfor approximately two seconds whenthe starter switch is turned to the 'IGN'position and then should go OFF.

If the warning light fails to go OFF orcome ON when driving, a faould hasbeen detected by the self-monitoringsystem and complete ABS controlmay not be available. If this occurs, get your car checked by a TATAAuthorised service centre.

In addition, when starting the engine,a single 'knock' may be heard comingfrom the engine compartment. Veryslight movement my also be felt at thebrake pedal. Both are normal and aredue to the ABS self checking process.

NOTICEThe non-ABS braking systemremains fully operational and is notaffected by partial of complete lossof the ABS. However, brakingdistance may increase.

DRIVING Driving Safety

DRIVING SAFETYSeat Belt:Seat-belts are life saving equipment.Use of seat-belt reduces the chanceof injury and severity of injury in caseof an accident. It is stronglyrecommended that all the caroccupants always wear seat-beltswhen car is in motion.

Influence of Alcohol / Drugs:Avoid driving under the influence ofalcohol or drugs. Alcohol and drugswill severely affect your reflex actions. This will impair your control of the carand increase the risk of injury toyourself and others.

Mobile phones:

Avoid using mobile phones whiledriving a car. This could divert yourattention from the road and result inan accident.

Fatigue 'Rest Revive Survive':Do not attempt driving when you feeltired, sleepy. Long distance drivingcan tire you very much and fatigue candull your reflexes and judgment. Takerest and get refreshed at regularintervals.

Parking on slopes:Due care should be exercised whileapplying parking brakes on steepslopes. It is advisable to switch off theengine and shift gear lever in LowForward Gear before parking the carfacing uphill steep slope and in reversegear when facing down hill.

107

TIPS TO IMPROVE FUELECONOMY:Your car's fuel economy is mainlydependent on your style of driving. To operate your car as economicallyas possible, use the following drivingsuggestions.

Avoid Excessive Idling :

Stop the engine and start it again, ifyou have to wait for more than aminute. e.g. at Traffic Signals.

Avoid fast starts and unnecessarystops :

Start off slowly from traffic lights or stopsigns to prevent increased fuelconsumption and shortening of enginelife. Avoid unnecessary deceleration(stopping or slowing down) and thenacceleration which uses more fuel.

Always maintain clean air-filter:

The amount of air supplied will reducedue to clogged air-filter, resulting in

wastage of fuel due to incompletecombustion.

Have your car's air filter cleaned duringevery service. In case the car is usedin dusty conditions, get the air filtercleaned more frequently at a Tataauthorised service station.

Avoid incorrect tyre pressure :

If your car's tyres are under - inflated,it results in increased rollingresistance, leading to wastage of fuel.(Refer tyre maintenance section)

Proper Driving Practices :Keep a safe distance from other carsto avoid braking suddenly.

NOTICEDo not rest your foot on the clutchpedal. It does not allow full enginepower to be transmitted to thewheels and reduces clutch life.

4. Press the clutch pedal fully.5. Now crank the engine.6. If the engine does not start turn

the key to off position and try after30 seconds.

NOTICEAfter starting, run the engine in idlespeed for at least 30 seconds. Donot press accelerator pedal whilestarting the engine to avoid damageto turbocharger (in case of dieselcars).

Stopping the Engine(Specially for Diesel engines):Before switching OFF the engine, runthe engine in idle condition for atleast30 seconds and then switch OFF.This will allow the engine oil tolubricate the turbocharger, till itsspeed is fully reduced and also allowthe unit to cool down.

The above precautions will ensuresatisfactory life and performance fromthe turbocharger.

Preparing to Drive :Release the parking brake. Before you enter the car, checkand clear any obstructions that maynot be visible from the driver's seat. Before driving off check in therear view mirror, for oncomingtraffic. Switch on side indicatorsignal when getting into mainstream of traffic.

Parking :

Park the car in a safe place.Apply the parking brake.Ensure that all window glasses areclosed and all lamps are turnedOFF.At night, put on the parking lightsif required.Remove the key from the ignitionswitch.Place wheel chocks at the wheelsif parked on a slope.

CAUTIONDo not leave the key inside the car.Do not leave children unsupervisedinside the car. When parking on a level ground, you may place the gear lever in"Neutral" position. DRIVING Braking

Brakes :The brake system on your car isan advanced dual circuit, diagonalsplit vacuum assisted hydraulicbrake system.

It is equipped with:Brake booster: This assists thedriver in braking with an ergonomicpedal force on brake pedal;Tandem Master Cylinder, for failsafe braking.Single pot calipers, for efficientenergy absorption.Auto adjusted rear brakes whichare designed for trouble freeperformance.

The system is designed with diagonalsplit type, which has an advantage ofproviding maximum braking even if onecircuit fails. However, in such asituation, the pedal will be lighter topress, pedal travel will be higher andstopping distance will increase. At the

same time brake indication light wouldglow on dash board. If you observe any abnormality in brakesystem contact your nearest TATAAuthorized Service Centre. In case of failure of vacuum supply tothe brake booster the car can still bestopped with a higher pedal effort. Incase of vacuum failure or brake circuitfailure, slow down the car by shiftingto lower gear and lifting your foot fromthe accelerator pedal. Pull the side ofthe road as soon as it is safe.

CAUTIONBrake system failure is hazardousand needs immediate attention. Inthe event of brake system failure,a) Have your car towed ORb) Be extremely cautious in caseyou have to drive the car.

Put your foot on brake pedal to applybrake. Do not ride with brakes appliedas they may overheat and theperformance may be impaired. Thebrake lights may confuse the otherroad users behind you.Use engine to assist the brakes byshifting to a lower gear and lifting yourfoot from accelerator pedal.Constant application of brakes whilegoing down the hill builds heat andreduces braking efficiency.Check your brakes after drivingthrough deep water. Apply the brakesmoderately to feel that they arenormal. If not, apply them gently andfrequently until they do. With wetbrakes you should be extra cautiousand alert while driving.

DRIVINGDriving in Adverse Condition

Check brakes, steering andwindows.Check tyres for wear and tyrepressure.Check wiper blades for properfunctioning.

Driving Through Water :

Never venture to drive through waterwhen it flows over stones on a bridge.Your car’s engine may get seriouslydamaged if attempted to drive throughdeep water.If at all the situation demands that youhave to drive through water then;

Keep engine in fast idling and crawlthe car in low gear. After driving through water applybrakes several times to dry linersand to regain original braking.

Do not attempt to start the engine ifcar gets flooded due to water. Tow thecar to a safe place.Take the car to nearest TATAauthorised workshop to check entryof water in cylinders. If water has entered the engine ortransaxle, the lubricants will have tobe replaced.Get the starter and alternator checked.Driving on a Rainy Day :

Avoid harsh braking and sharp turns. It may cause loss of control and leadto a skid. For slowing down, shift to lower gearsand brake gently.Keep head lights ON if visibility ispoor.

Night Driving :

Dip the head lamp for oncoming trafficduring night driving.Maintain a speed such that you canstop within illuminated distance ofhead lamps.

Page 114: Indigo Manza Quadrajet / Safire

112

DRIVING Driving in Adverse Condition

Use head lamp main/dip beam to alertother road users on turns/cross roadsetc.Use side indicators for lane changeor turning.Put ON hazard warning switch in caseof hazardous parking or if your car isdisabled to warn the passing traffic.

Climbing Sharp Gradients onLoose Surfaces:

Start off smoothly in any suitable gear.Apply power smoothly so that thereis no loss of traction by over-revvingof the engine.

Choose as smooth a slope aspossible and select the appropriategear so that gear changing in themiddle of the climb is not required.Changing gears in the middle of theclimb can cause loss of momentumand engine stalling. Shifting to a lowergear has to be done cautiously to avoidloss of traction.Never move the car diagonally acrossa hill. The danger is in loss of tractionand sideways slippage, possiblyresulting in tipping over. If unavoidable, choose as mild an angle as possibleand keep the car moving. If the wheels start to slip within fewfeet of the end of the climb, motioncan be maintained by swinging thesteered wheels left and right, therebyproviding increased grip.If the car stalls or losses headwaywhile climbing a steep hill, make aquick shift to reverse and allow thecar to move back with the control ofengine compression.

Depending on the severity of thegradient, shift into appropriate gear.Use engine braking judiciously withoutover-revving the engine.Brake application under suchsituations should be done verysmoothly to avoid loss of control.Select appropriate gear so that gearchanging or clutch disengagement isnot involved while descending thegradient.

Tyres MAINTENANCETyres : You should have your own tyre

pressure gauge and use it at all times. This makes it easier for you to tell ifpressure loss is caused by a tyreproblem and not by variation betweengauges.

Keeping the tyres properly inflatedgives you the best combination of ridingcomfort, handling, tyre life and betterfuel efficiency.

Over inflation of tyres makes the carride bumpy and harsh. Tyres are moreprone to uneven wear and damage fromroad hazards.

Under inflated tyres reduce yourcomfort in car handling and are proneto failures due to high temperature. They also cause uneven wear andmore fuel consumption.

Check for inflation and condition of yourcar tyres periodically.

Inflation :

Check the pressure in the tyres whenthey are cold.

1. If you notice bumps or bulges inthe tread or the side of the tyre, replace the tyre.

2. If there are cuts, splits or cracksin the side of the tyre, replace thetyre.

3. Replace tyre if excessive treadwear or non uniform tyre wear isnoticed.

Repairing a Tyre:

Mark the tyre position suitably (iforiginal colour dot mark is not visible)with respect to valve stem hole toensure that the tyre is refitted in theoriginal location on the wheel rim.

Ensure that balancing weights are notdisturbed during removal of tyres.

Check the balance weight prior to theremoval of the tyre. If found loose, markits location on the rim and refit properly.

Balance the wheel after everydismantling and assembly of tyre onthe wheel rim.

NOTICEDo not apply any oil on the wheelpins. Wipe off the oil if present.

Wheel Cover Removal:

Insert a piece of cloth between thespokes of the wheel cover and pullcover outward. Take out detachedwheel cover from the wheel rim. Forinstallation, first match the slot at thewheel cover with the air feeling nozzleof the wheel. Apply equal pressure atthe circumference of the wheel coverto fix it in the wheel rim.

CAUTIONAttempting to remove wheel coverwith bare fingers may cause injury.

Page 159: Indigo Manza Quadrajet / Safire

157

Tyres MAINTENANCE

Special care for tubeless tyres

1. While removing tyre from wheel rim and mounting itback on wheel rim, take precautions not to damagetyre bead. Use tyre removal and assembly machines.Damage or cut on tyre bead may cause gradual loss ofair and deflation of tyre.

2. Do not scratch inside of tubeless tyre with metallic orsharp object. Tubeless tyres are coated withimpermeable layer of rubber from inside which holdsthe air inside the tyre. Removal of this layer due toscratching may cause gradual loss of air and deflation.

3. If wheel rim gets damaged in service, get the wheel rimrepaired/replaced immediately. Running the car withdamaged rim may cause deflation of tyre andsubsequent dislodging of tyre from rim.

4. Maintain recommended inflation pressure. Over-inflation,in particular, may cause puncture or bursting of tyre.

NOTICELife and wear pattern of tyres depends on variousparameters like tyre pressure, wheel alignment, wheelbalancing, tyre rotation, etc. It also largely depends oncar speed, load carried, usage, driving habits, roadconditions, tyre quality, etc. In case fault is suspectedto be due to poor quality of tyres, the same may betaken up with concerned tyre manufacturer.

Tyre Rotation :

To help increase tyre life and distribute wear more evenlyyou should have tyres rotated at specified intervals or earlierdepending on the operation of car.The illustrations shows how to rotate tyres when normalspare wheel is included in tyre rotation.

Page 160: Indigo Manza Quadrajet / Safire

158

MAINTENANCE Tyre

Check and maintain tyre pressureperiodically to obtain longer tyre life.

Wheel Balancing :

Wheels of your car are balanced forbetter ride comfort and longer tyre life.Balancing needs to be done whenevertyre is removed from rim.

1. Permissible imbalance for tyre withrim = 102 gm-cm max.

2. Total balance weight should bewithin 140 gm on each side.

3. Relocate the tyre if the weightrequired to balance is more than140 gm.

4. Balance weights are available from10 gm to 140 gm in steps of every10 gm and from 5 gm to 135 gm insteps of every 10 gm.

5. Do not use more than one balanceweight on one side.

Wheel alignment :

Incorrect wheel alignment causesexcessive and uneven tyre wear.Check wheel alignment at specifiedintervals. Wheel alignment values aregiven below :
