Indicator #14 Post-School Follow-Up Survey
• Annual follow-up required by federal law on students who exit secondary school on an IEP.
• Follow-up conducted one year after exit by telephone survey conducted by local school personnel.
• Results reported to federal government every February on competitive employment, higher education (two or four year), and postsecondary education/training participation, and some other employment.
Overview of #14
• Completion of Indicator #14 due September 30th
• No “report” is submitted by school divisions to VDOE
• VCU checks database close to due date and alerts divisions of incomplete files on their site
Indicator #14 Exiters
• Students are exiters (exit on an IEP) one year after leaving high school.
• Must completely separated from secondary education one full year.
• List of diploma options on instruction sheet and survey.
Note: dropouts are any student who leaves school on an IEP 9th grade on up.
Survey Instrument
• Using VCU test site for today’s session. Fictitious school division: Jefferson County.
• Survey logically skips to the appropriate section of survey on division’s data entry site based on how individual responds to questions
Questions Received during Data Collection
• Error Message: At times you will receive an error message. When sending email to me about error, please copy and send the message you received. Helps us determine what is going on.
• An example of error message is site unavailable. Could be a result of going through google to access site. Web platforms to use is Internet Explorer or Firefox if possible.

• Another error message is student file already in database. Message will tell you if the file is on your division’s database or another school division’s. Please send me the message so we can discuss what needs to be done.
• If you have a response and there doesn’t seem to be a category for it, please let me know. I will assist in finding the best category possible. I discuss with Marianne when we are reviewing survey for possible updates for next year’s collection.
