WESLEYANSEPTEMBER 2007
Thou shalt pray for thy pastor on a daily basis.
Remember to show special love to thy pastor’s spouse and
children.
Honor the District Journal’s request that thy pastor shall be
granted a three-week vacation with pay, and that after 15
years of service to The Wesleyan Church, one additional day
of vacation shall be added for each year of service over 15
years up to a total of 5 weeks of vacation.
Thou shalt not talk negative about thy pastor in the presence
of thy children if thou desire to see thy children grow up to
love Jesus and the church.
Remember to especially show appreciation throughout the
month of October, but thou shalt continue this throughout
the rest of the year as well.
Honor thy pastor by doing what the District Journal recom-
mends and when possible give thy pastor a 5% pay raise an-
nually.
Thou shalt go to thy pastor directly if thou hast a problem or
concern about thy pastor or thy church and thou shalt not
gossip about thy concerns.
Remember thou shalt volunteer to help thy pastor with the
work of thy church.
Honor thy pastor by following thy District Journal guide-
lines and when possible pay 12% of thy pastor’s salary, utili-
ties, and the fair rental value of thy parsonage into the
pension plan. None of which will be deducted from thy pas-
tor’s salary.
Remember thy pastor is under a lot of pressure and needs
thy support, love and care. It is in order to tell thy preacher
some jokes and to laugh at thy pastor’s corny jokes!

Pictured above are the ministers that got ordained and trans-
ferred to our district this summer. From left to right it is Dr. Mark,
Rev. John Hundley, Rev. & Mrs. James Moore, Ms. Amber
Livermore, and our respective General Superintendent,
Dr. Tom Armiger.
10 Reasons for Camp Meetings
In the latest Nazarene paper called, The Evangelists’ Per-spective, they highlighted their camp meetings that tookplace this summer. I did a quick count and saw where theyhad 46 different family camps held all across the U.S.A.One of the friends I met in my doctorate program, Dr.Chuck Millhuff, who is a Nazarene evangelist and execu-tive editor of this magazine wrote these 10 Reasons why hebelieves we should still have camp meeting in the 21st Cen-tury. With his permission I present them to you for con-sideration. God blessed us richly this year at our OrleansFamily Camp for which I am thankful.
1. They give us a chance to express our corporate con-science. At the heart of denominationalism is the idea ofoneness in belief and function. Camp meetings are a placewhere no one votes on the way that we do things. Altar-callmethods, the office of Evangelist, prayer and the distribu-tion of literature and the time to read are made possible.
2. They get us away from home with its familiar sightsand sounds. This creates perspective not possible at home. The prolonged stay on a campground allows for the devel-opment of spiritual depth and for very meaningful con-victing introspection.
3. The camp meeting encourages the small churches.Load up the van and bring your few folks to the campmeeting, and they will see a much larger church than theywould ever see at home. This creates and atmosphere thatfosters a special kind of joy and conviction.
4. At a camp meeting, leaders can get lost in the crowd. How many times have I seen a Pastor kneel at the altarfilled with folks weeping over his or her needs. That Pastorarises with new hope for his or her ministry.
5. Camp meetings take advantage of Spirit-led groupdynamics.
6. Camp meetings separate the nice from the hot. Theconviction in a camp meeting is far more than coercive ma-nipulation. The revival we all pray for is blown across the
crowd as obedience creates courage like in no otherplace.
7. At camp meetings the unsaved are reached.Once at the end of a service when all had left, I met aman out by the ropes of the tent. He was troubled. The crowd was long gone. After a short conversa-tion, we went to the empty altar and the D.S. and Ihelped the unsaved brother to victory. His words, “Ican’t leave without it.”
8. Camp meetings remind us of our past. Nameslike C.W. Ruth, Bud Robinson, Paul Martin, theKeller Yorks and many more fill our minds as we cre-ate memories as God helps us. The young have nowso much to remember as they sit under the anointedpreaching and singing as well.
9. Camp meetings give us hope for the future.God saves, sanctifies and heals in this atmosphere.
10. Camp meetings. I love them. That is mymain reason, which of course includes all the aboveand more. A camp meeting going full tilt—whythere’s nothing like it.
