The Challenge The TV Network’s 50 programs and more than 33 channels generate approximately 330 hours of video content each day in SD DVCPRO HD Apple Pro Res format. Using an older, outdated storage system, the network found it difficult to edit, move, and delete video files when needed. This led to massive amounts of data being created, with no efficient way to retrieve, store, or manage it. Like many companies with ever-increasing amounts of data and limited space, they needed a dynamic, affordable, and highly accessible data protection system. The Solution The company selected a Spectra ® T950 Tape Library with 900 slots and six LTO-6 tape drives, combined with StorageDNA’s DNA Evolution archive software, to manage their expanding data. Spectra’s Shared Library Services (SLS) and BlueScale Interface allow the network’s IT department to easily implement three integrated partitions, so their single library appears as multiple libraries. The company’s new solution allows them to automate their processes, while reducing staff involvement and supporting their future data growth without expanding their current footprint. This growing network also added a Spectra NAS Solution to their data center for network-attached disk storage, which stores StorageDNA’s archival catalogs, previews, and database. In the case of a server crash, this solution provides users the ability to rebuild the server and reconnect to the Spectra NAS Raid 5 configuration, so the entire database is online. The customer has significantly decreased their file retrieval time and is now able to easily access video content for editing or play back.
