People want to believe that they joined an organization with a higher purpose, as well as one that celebrates life through activities and friendships at the local level. Use the materials at your lodge to supplement the information you will be providing at the local level. I hope to see YOU at the Cocoa Lodge #1717 Celebration, in fact, make it a point to come out and have some fun and meet the new Proud to be a Moose Legionnairemembers. Fraternally, Doug Husted Presidents Message This is my last quarter for being your Moose Legion President. I would like to thank you for allowing me to serve in this position and represent such a fine Moose Legion. I think the Moose Legion 178 sets an example for every other Moose Legion to follow and every one of us should be proud of our accomplishments and hard work that we have established. At the time I am writing this letter, we are working hard on our BEEF IT UPFundraiser and if we have good weather, I think we will have a very successful event with fun for all. I would like to thank each member and lodge for their support for this and all of the other events and fundraising that we have held this year. I am very proud of our Moose Legion 178 endowment fund that we have donated this year. On the other hand, we need to work on closing the back door on our Moose Legion Members that are not renewing their membership. If you sponsor one of these members, please contact them and see if you can remind them of what we do and how much they are needed. Remember the next celebration is at Cocoa 1717 on March 2nd & 3rd . Everyone please come out and congratulate our next Moose Legion President Doug Husted. I am sure he will do a good job. Again, thank you for all of your support. Fraternally Wayne Clark President SPECIAL THANKS To Alice Gore, Jim Jeffcoat and crew for volunteering their time as our official Indian River #178 Postmasters. Vice President’s Message

Hi Fellow Moose Legionnaires,

Many of us forget that new members really know very little about how the Fraternity, or for

that matter, how an individual lodge or chapter, operates. People want to believe that they joined an organization with a higher purpose, as well as one that celebrates life through activities and friendships at the local level. Use the materials at your lodge to supplement the information you will be providing at the local level.

I hope to see YOU at the Cocoa Lodge #1717 Celebration, in fact, make it a point to come out and have some fun and meet the new “Proud to be a Moose Legionnaire” members.

Fraternally, Doug Husted

Secretary’s Message

Hello All, We just wrapped up our ’Beef it Up’ fundraiser at Merritt Island #2073. As in the previous two years, we had a very successful event and

wish to thank Merritt Island for hosting this year. We greatly appreciate all the volunteers working the event and we especially thank those attending. All funds contributed will go toward the International Moose Legion President’s Project. This year’s project funds are for a Commercial Washer/Drier for Moosehaven and a high-resolution projector for the Paul J. O’Hollaren (PJO) building at Mooseheart. As seen on the MLAE report below, we’re doing very well with the exception of membership. It continues to be our only point of concern and we must somehow

find a way to retain our members while adding new ones to the rolls. We stand a good chance of achieving application quota for the first time in many years, but

we need your help to sponsor Moose Legionnaires. Remember – they won’t join unless we ASK THEM!

Fraternally, Dan O’Neal

Jr Past President’s Message

Well, here we go again another year has come & gone. I would like to thank everyone for supporting our Moose Legion, Indian River #178. Retention, Retention, we hear it all the time. We get new members in but after a year or two we seem to lose them. What can we do to keep the members and close the back

door? Talk to them about Lodge events, activities, functions, etc. and ask them what they would like to see happen in the Lodge. Get them involved and try to keep them active. Some may have fallen on hard times and need help with their dues. Once again, thank you for your support and hope to see you at Cocoa #1717.

LODGE COMMITTEE REPORT CARD - MAY 1st - JANUARY 20th

Here are some statistics of this year’s totals from each lodge committee in various categories. This report should generate a little competition and makes it very easy to identify strengths and weaknesses within the categories. The lodge committees will be able to see their progress quarterly. Using this as a tool, every committee can easily determine what areas they may need to concentrate more effort upon to increase scoring. Where will your committee stand next quarter? Good luck to all !
