• Computer Based Interlocking• Continuous Automatic Train Control (CATC)- It is not

only a Signaling System. It is an integrated train control system.– Automatic Train Protection (ATP)

• Distance to Go with Track to Train communication through Coded AFTC with Cab Signalling

– Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) • Automatic Route Setting; Automatic train

Regulation • Centralized control from Operational Control

Centre– Automatic Train Operation (ATO)

• For Metro corridor only

UNRESERVED TICKETING SYSTEM-UTS

Tickets can be issued upto 3 days in advance

Indian railways introduced UTS to improve customer satisfaction, revenue generation, accounting, and reporting capabilities and reduce fraudSystem is proposed to be extended progressively on all zonal railways

The work load involved in printing , accounting and issuing tickets to this mega segment has been a difficult task

Indian railways have received the prestigious computer world honour 2004 for UTS that has improved customers’ travelling experience and provided operational efficiency

FREIGHT OPERATIONS INFORMATION SYSTEM

FOIS

An on line real time system for management and control of freight traffic

User driven design and implementation

Foundations for a total logistics system

Instant access to information regarding status of consignments in transit, for just in time inventory

Assists in Asset Tracking, Asset Planning Performance Monitoring , to optimise As set utilisation

A state-of-the-art interactive voice response system (IVRS) can recognise a customer’s voice and answer queries as well as any person. It can enhance our organisation’s efficiency and make our customers happier, unlike conventional interactive systems.

Fiber Media

Optical fibers use light to send information through the optical medium.

It uses the principal of total internal reflection.

Modulated light transmissions are used to transmit the signal.

WHAT IS MICROWAVE

COMMUNICATION

DEFINITION

A communication system that utilizes the radio frequency band spanning 2 to 60 GHz. As per IEEE, electromagnetic waves between 30 and 300 GHz are called millimeter waves (MMW) instead of microwaves as their wavelengths are about 1 to 10mm.

MICROWAVE SYSTEMS

• Microwave communication is line of sight radio communication.

• Microwave communication can be analog or digital.

Propagation Types

1.Ground wave propagation

2.Line of sight propagation

3.Sky wave propagation

Page 15: Indian railway-3977545

WIRELESS MEDIA

Very useful in difficult terrain where cable laying is not possible.

Provides mobility to communication nodes.

Right of way and cable laying costs can be reduced.

Susceptible to rain, atmospheric variations and Objects in transmission path.

RADIO SYSTEM

Dispatch radio systems for railways.Base station infrastructure and corresponding mobiles and

portable radios can be provided in all frequencies currently used by the industry.

Each controller in the Traffic Control Room has a radio dispatch console for voice communication with the train drivers. Incoming calls are given priorities by the drivers and appear on the screen according to these priorities. Please ask for detailed information about radio systems for railways.

Network Management System (NMS) is a supervision and system dedicated to operation and maintenance of transmission networks and surroundingequipment. In the event of failure in a geographically distributed transmission network, the NMSdetects the alarm signals from all communication subsystems along the railwayline. Fault identifications are then transmitted to one or more Network Control Centres (NCC) where maintenance staff can take due action.

Information displays for . Different cabinets and different character design optimize displays for in-doors well as out-door use.Displays may be 25" colour monitors, LCD displays with high intrinsic reliability, LED dot matrix or electromagnetic flap types. Control an distribution of information to the various platforms are computerized and can be integrated with train-graph and train control systems.

Page 20: Indian railway-3977545

PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM FOR LOUDSPEAKER

Announcements of train arrivals and departures, delays, etc. will often be integrated in the passenger information system where preprogrammed messages are stored on data voice recorders on stations along the railway line.Unmanned stations will have interface between the interlocking system and the Public Address System for automatic platform announcements.

SPT’S are still use in many railway infrastructure companies. Being part of the safety system.SPT's offer a well proven and reliable system concept with a unique identification of the calling party. The SPT system can be operated in both local and central mode.

CONCLUSION“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

After being trained at the office of “DIVISIONAL RAILWAY MANAGER” I came to know that how Indian Railway employs the

field of Electronics and communication Engineering for meeting its daily requirement in the segment of

communication…
