From the Director’s Desk

We act as a production house of highly skilled young professionals in the field of

management particularly in Travel & Tourism Sector to meet ever increasing needs

of the industry. We take delight to present before you the first batch of Post

Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism & Travel), PGDM(TT). This unique two

year programme with specializations in Tour Operation, Cargo Operations &

Management , and Marketing is focused on giving the students an excellent

grounding in the fundamentals of management and empowering them with

success oriented skills. We thus provide an integrated approach to harness their

potential and to think about business and sustainability in a professional way.

These talented architects of the economy are selected on the basis of their

analytical ability and problem solving skills and our dedicated faculty have

nurtured and trained them in an environment, which is full of rigor, creativity and

hands - on learning.

On behalf of the institute I take pleasure in inviting corporates to a mutually

beneficial and symbiotic relationship and to participate in the Placement Process

Twenty-five years ago, we started our Journey of

Excellence and presently celebrating our Silver Jubilee

year. On introspection, we find that it was indeed not a

smooth road. Of course, in this age of cut throat

competition we have been growing, expanding and

adapting ourselves to the changing societal needs. "The

survival of the fittest" has been the guiding force

It is a very pleasant and satisfying experience that our students

have been widely admired by the industry with greater

enthusiasm year after year. In this direction, I take pleasure to

thank all our past and future platform providers. Every year we

brace up ourselves with new aspiration and spirit, leaving behind

earlier records to set yet another benchmark.

We are thriving for excellence and we do believe that it is a

continuous process, and, excellence indeed is a journey not a

destination.

About the Institute

With the creation of Ministry of Tourism in 1967 by Government of India, followed by comprehensive measures for development of tourism potential in the country by all stakeholders, it was realized that the country lagged one of the most crucial factors for holistic development, i.e. a properly groomed, professional human resource. As a result of the recommendation, inter-alia, made by a Parliament Committee, the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) came into existence in 1983, as an apex centre for Tourism Education and Research, as a registered society with its headquarters at New Delhi.

IITTM being a National Level Institute is expected to

expand the scope of its activities to various parts of

the country to enable homogenous growth among all

regions of the country keeping in view their unique

identities. It has got more campuses at

Bhubaneswar, Delhi and Goa.

In 1992 the institute was shifted to Gwalior and is functioning from its own fully equipped campus since 1995-96. Over the years the institute has been able to establish itself as a premier centre of excellence for Education and Training in Tourism management.

IITTM being a Premier Institute in Tourism is expected to expand the scope of its activities to various parts of the country to enable homogenous growth among all regions of the country keeping in view their unique identities. IITTM has three Nodal Centers at Bhubaneswar, Delhi and Goa.

IITTM has well developed infrastructure and facilities at the Gwalior centre. Generous grants have been received from Ministry of Tourism to develop these facilities at other centers as well.

Reading Reference Center

As an indispensable organ of any academic

enterprise, the library consists of books on

tourism, management, IT and allied

subjects, reports, conference souvenirs,

periodicals’ archives, CD – ROMs etc. The

library also boasts of a robust reference

collection of encyclopedias, dictionaries,

literature and other subjects.

IITTM boasts of one of the best collection

of books and journals on tourism in the

whole South East Asian region.

IT Interface of IITTM

The computer labs equip students with

necessary skills required in today’s IT

intensive environment.

The faculty and students are provided with

network nodes for 24x7 internet access,

equipped with generic software like SPSS,

MS – office in addition to industry specific

software like Amadeus, Sabre, Worldspan

and Galileo to name a few.

Hostels

Classroom Complex

Residential Complex

The IITTM, Gwalior has a fully furnished

residential Hostel equipped with all modern

facilities including solar heaters, 24 hour

water supply and water coolers complex

with separate hostels for boys and girls with

a fully functional common mess encouraging

dinner time conversations.

The hostels also promote energy

conservation through the use of CFL lamps

by all residents provided by the institute.

The class rooms are equipped with air conditioning, multimedia devices including OHPs, LCD projectors and computers to foster a more interactive learning environment.

Curriculum

PGDM (Tourism & Travel) Curriculum

Post Graduate Diploma in Management

(Tourism & Travel) (PGDM TT) is a two years

whole time programme of Indian Institute of

Tourism & Travel Management (IITTM)

approved by AICTE and is equivalent to MBA

programme. It focuses upon Management of

Tourism & Travel. The programme design seeks

to inculcate the right attitude, develop the

appropriate skills and impart comprehensive

and rigorous knowledge to the trainees to

develop them into effective managers and

change agents in their respective organizations.

The objectives of this programme of study are manifold:

Enable young leaders develop a business sense and sensitizes them to nuances of tourism scenarios.

Introduce and train specially for managing tourism and travel businesses among others.

Learn principles & practices of management especially in travel & tourism industry.

Equip & enable learners to start a new tourism & travel related business venture.

Accordingly, the programme has a large component of experience in real world situations under the careful guidance of mentors.

The course structure incorporates an intensive study of 2 academic sessions. It is divided into four semesters. There are three taught semesters and one semester of on-the-job training. Each semester comprises of nine courses, each of three hours per week equivalent teaching obligation and equal amount of self study.

Our Innovative Pedagogy

The teaching methodology aims at imparting rigorous theoretical and practical training to the students with a fine mix of classroom lectures along with case studies, assignments, projects, presentations and group discussions. Much emphasis is laid upon social responsiveness and the utility of co-ordination and competition, thereby giving rise to a collaborative leadership pattern. Class room learning is based on the semester pattern and is primarily meant for conceptual inputs. Theory forms the basis and actual learning occurs through interactive discussions with faculty and industry.

The learning is based on teamwork and team spirit. Group discussions, case analysis and presentations have the added benefits of enhancing communication skills and also leverages on time and effort required. The students are encouraged to participate in various social responsibility programmes like Clean Himalayas drive in Manali and tree plantation drives during auspicious occasions. Reinforcement of class room knowledge becomes essential and at IITTM we do this by working on various projects, industrial visits, lectures by eminent personalities from various walks of life and other extra-curricular activities.

Life @ IITTM DISHA: The Management Vector

The chief preoccupation of the society is to

familiarize new students with the pre requisites

of the management life - long working hours,

making presentations, constant interactive

processes, in a nutshell, making rigor a part of

the students’ smithy. The induction

programme for freshers is the major event

under its agnes.

Literary Club

It is dedicated to provide a platform for the

wizards of the ink pot. The institute maintains a

Wall Magazine wherein contributions are

regularly updated. Competitions are also

organized at regular intervals to chisel the

talented minds.

Cultural Club

Art, Music and Dance are an integral part

of our culture and the society aims to

nurture such talents by integrating such

activities with the campus life.

Sports Club

IITTM lays strong emphasis upon the physical and mental

well being of students, so that they can successfully cope

up with the stressfulness of managerial life. Apart from

Yoga lawns and well laid out jogging tracks, the club

provides facilities for Cricket, Soccer, Table Tennis,

Badminton, Billiards, Volleyball. The annual Sports Week

feature competitions in the aforementioned sports and

student- faculty matches prove to be the highlighted

events.

ANNUAL EVENTS

Tourism Day

The World Tourism Day is celebrated each year on 27th September. Apart from various cultural events and guest speakers, the National Tourism Quiz, with teams from all over the country forms the highlight of the event.

The day begins with various competitions like Rangoli, Mehndi

competitions alongwith Extempore and Creative Writing contests – the

evening consists of cultural performances depicting the colours of India,

with ethnic dresses being the theme of the event.

Tours and Adventure Activities

The Institute conducts one or two tours each year to subject students to the variety of destinations that the country has. A unique feature of these tours are the short – term courses that students are expected to go through – from life saving techniques at National Institute of Water Sports, Goa to mountaineering courses at Manali and Patni Top.
