Q.(a) : The current details of availability of infrastructure facilities and administrative staff in each of the Indian Institutes of
Technology (IITs) as on date, IIT-wise separately;
A (a) : The Institute has a 320 acre campus with facilities like, class rooms, hostels & residences, library, seminar hall, sports, play-fields and cultural-cum-social and recreational facilities etc., for general facilitation, academic and co-curriculum support to the students, faculty and staff (Annexure-I).
There are 13 Departments, 8 Centres and 3 Schools (Annexure - II), which offer UG/PG & Research Programme (Annexure – III).
The Institute is having 524 teaching and 646 non-teaching staff at present (Annexure - IV).
Q. (b) : The funds allocated and spent on IITs during the last three years, IIT-wise and year-wise; A. (b) : The details of grant allocated / received and expenditure from FY 2013-14 to FY 2016-17 (upto as on 20.03.2017)

It has a reference to your e-mail dated July 11, 2017. The requisite information specific to IIT Delhi is given as under :
(a) Whether the Government is aware of the number of student' deaths and dropout rates of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs);
Ans. The MHRD to reply in detail, as per information from other IITs.
As a matter of fact, there has been no instance in IIT Delhi of student death or attempt if any, due to dropout or poor performance.
(b) If so, the details of such instances reported in the current year, Institution wise and the reasons therefor; and
Ans. No such case of student death or attempt if any, has been reported yet in the current academic session, due to poor
performance or drop out.
The registration for current academic session will commence from 18 – 19 July' 2017 and classes will start from July 21, 2017.
The drop out figures for UG and PG students, in the current year/session (completing on May, 2017) is reproduced, with reasons thereof.

workshops on mental health are conducted by this Unit. This facility is besides the availability of senior students and faculty mentors, available in the hostel to support the students in need. Yoga classes and various activities like sports and music help them to de-stress, besides active engagement in cultural and social activity clubs.

(a) The number of suicides committed by the students of IITs, during the last three years; Ans: Only one student has committed suicide (in the year 2017), during the last three years. (b) whether the number of suicides has increased; Ans: There is no increase in the cases of suicide. (c) whether the IITs have set up any committee to inquire into the causes of such suicides or otherwise
addressed the issue; (d) if so, the details thereof; and (e) if not, the reasons therefor? Ans: (c, d and e) Since the incidence of suicide was due to personal reasons, no such Committee was set up. However, a FIR was lodged and inquiry is being made by Police Authority, which is under progress. In order to secure adequate representation of SC/ST/OBC communities at IIT Delhi, special drive for recruitment of
faculty out of SC/ST/OBC categories was carried out during 2013-2014. There is also a rolling advertisement on our IIT Delhi
website ( www.iitd.ac.in )seeking applications from suitable candidates for faculty positions against which candidates
belonging to the reserved categories can also and always apply round the year.
As per MHRD letter F.No.16-8/2000-TS.I dated 09.06.2008(copy enclosed), reservations shall be applied at the entry
level post of Assistant Professors filled up as a whole during a year. Posts of Associate Professors and Professors in Science
and Technology subjects in IITs shall be exempted from reservation and subsequently the posts get de-reserved if suitable
candidates are not available.

Ans. It is for MHRD to reply. At the Institute level all applications received from SC/ST students are properly examined and students are encouraged to apply for admission in the research programme going on in the Depts./Centres/Schools. The requisite reservation for SC/ST/OBCs is ensured as per the response of the application received.

Ans. Yes, IIT Delhi is well aware of the provisions relating to the prevention of sexual harassment of women at
the place of studies and work place and the same have already been implemented in the Institute. > (b) if so, the details thereof; and Ans. The detailed policy already approved by the Competent Authority in this regard has been displayed on
the website of the Institute, a copy thereof is also attached herewith. (c) whether University Grants Commission(UGC) has reviewed such existing arrangements and taken
