Study Overview
A large-scale online survey conducted in April - May 2007. Sampled over 16,300 complete and usable responses (9,000 salaried employees)
Online survey conducted using one of the leading portals in India as well as Google search ads
Data made representative of the entire urban Indian population by using appropriate 'demographic multipliers' derived from a land survey, which was conducted by JuxtConsult during March-April 2007, sampling over 10,000 households in 31 cities (till 20,000 population size towns) spread across all the 4 regions of the country
Only authentic Govt. of India data used for deriving representation ‘weights’
Methodology
Topline Findings!
Average age of getting the ‘first job’ is 22.7 years
Average years of work experience is 12.6 years (increases with increase in size of the company)
Average tenure per job is 4.7 years. However, tenure with the ‘current company’ averages much higher
The white collar world!
Only 1 in 5 has a ‘professional’ educational degree
Only 1 in 8 has a ‘claimed’ monthly family income of over Rs.50K
Most below 20K monthly family income households are ‘single income’ households
6 out of 10 still do not have a credit card, but 9 out of 10 own a mobile phone
The collars appear greasy…
On an average, 1 senior manger manages only 6 white collar employees. Larger companies show the best turnover-to-employee efficiencies
Participation in company’ growth (stock options), followed by company provided accommodation and transportation are the most desired perks in relation to their current availability
IT and Telecom come out as the most aspired for industry verticals
…But the shirt wrinkle-free
3 out of 4 white collar employees are ‘fence sitters’
8 out of 10 are open to a change/move in the next 6 months
Dissatisfaction with current salary and designation, together with a ‘felt sense’ of lack of self-growth are largely what ‘trigger’ fence-sitting and quitting
‘Hygiene’ factors largely about employee’s ‘self-growth’, ‘add-on’ motivators largely about ‘company-growth’
Corporate ‘brand image’ critical in attracting prospectives
