GradingYou CANNOT pass this quarter without completing this project.

BUT basically you will be graded for 5 things: Reading Log, Story Charts, Silent Reading, Discussion Board, and Reading Conferences.

Reading LogYou are responsible for completing one reading log entry for each day that we silent read in class. That is 10 entries.

Your entries will be completed on the notebook paper in your story packet.

You may choose any of the reading log options for any entry.

This means you can use the same option every time or switch it up….IT’S YOUR CHOICE.

Entries should be neat and checked for grammar.

Story ChartsYou are to complete 3 story charts: Setting Analysis, Character Analysis, Plot Outline/Map.

Your charts are not due until you have finished your book.

Enter information into your chart as soon as you read it in the story. This will help you remember and understand the story you are reading.

Only complete and decorate your plot map when you are finished with your book.

If you have other questions, ASK!

Silent Reading For each day that we silent read, you will get points for your behavior from 1 (not good) to 5 (great).

To earn all of your silent reading points, you need to be reading for all of the given time and not cause any distractions to others.

You can lose points if:Your phone goes off.

You are talking to a neighbor.

You are sleeping.

You are off-task in any way.

You are reading something besides your book.

Discussion BoardFour times in this unit you will get in a group with 2 other classmates and discuss your books with each other.

Each person on the group has a job that is explained on your Discussion Board sheet.

Your group gets to pick which questions to discuss on which days.

Your groups may change from day-to-day depending on who is absent from class.

You should always be prepared to answer questions about your groups’ discussion.

Reading Conferences

Every Friday during Silent Reading time, I will call you up to my desk to have a quick conversation about your book.

There is nothing you need to do to get ready except be caught up reading your book.

I will ask you questions about characters, setting, plot, and other literary elements in your book.

I will know if you haven’t read and you will lose your points.
