Independent Living Transitional Services Critical Checklists

This chart book contains information from three surveys: 1) youth age 13-17, 2) young adults age 18-22, and 3) case workers for the 13-17 year old youths.

This chartbook compiles the results of over 4,400 surveys. The three surveys did not all contain the same questions, but the survey checklists included questions in the following areas:

Section I – Background Section II – Housing Section III – Education Section IV – Employment Section V – Health Section VI – Department of Corrections or Juvenile Justice Section VII – Transportation Section VIII – Case Plan, Aftercare and Transitional Services

CW is Caseworker Survey Y is 13-17 year old survey YA is 18-22 year old survey

Methodology

The 13-17 year olds were surveyed this year through 2 methods: 1) a survey that was to be completed by the youth him/herself and 2) a survey that was to be completed by the caseworker for that youth. In this way the 13-17 year old survey consisted of two separate, but interrelated, survey instruments.

For this analysis there is not a one-to-one match of youth to caseworker surveys, for example, if the youth was unavailable or refused to participate, there is only a caseworker survey. We also eliminated all duplicate surveys so each type of survey instrument is included only once for each child.

The questions in each of the three survey instruments were numbered individually, so the numbering on the individual pages will correspond to the specific survey from which it was drawn. The numbering will show the section of the survey and the survey from which it was drawn (Y=13-17 year old youth survey; CW=Caseworker survey on 13-17 year old youth; YA=18-22 year old survey taken by the young adult). If a question appears on two surveys and both are represented on that page, the code will include both survey codes (e.g. Y/YA; CW/YA). So each page will clearly indicate: 1) The survey from which it was drawn (Y, CW, YA); 2) The section of the survey (1-8); and 3) The question number.

Many of the charts convey a lot of information. If a cell in a chart is empty, that indicates no respondents selected that option. There are not zeros in each of the cells in the hopes of making the charts easier to read.
