1 ______________________________________________________________ Alice Mthini Independent Avon Executive Unit Leader My name is Alice Mthini, I’m 39 years old and a single mother or 2 girls Diana and Jesse. I’m also taking care of my late sister’s son, Joshua. I never finished school and the only work that I could find was that of a domestic worker. For 21 years I cleaned houses. 2 Years ago I started cleaning at a new house and there were boxes of perfume and make up everywhere! I asked if they sell the perfume and I was told NO but we do sell the opportunity for people to earn money. I took a brochure and tried to see if I could get orders from my friends and family. It took me about an hour to sell R600 worth of products. I made a profit of R150, the same as what I get paid for a whole day of cleaning houses! In my first month I made sales of over R10 000 and made a commission of R3 000. The same as what I get for cleaning houses in a month!! I kept on selling and 1 year ago I was introduced to Sales Leadership and took on the challenge of BECOMING MY OWN BOSS I stopped cleaning houses and started selling Avon products full time. In my 1 st campaign I qualified as a Unit Leader! In my 2 nd campaign I qualified as an Advanced Unit Leader and in only my 3 rd campaign I qualified as an Executive Unit Leader earning almost R15 000 just on bonuses!!! I am currently working towards becoming a Senior Executive Unit Leader and am confident that I will achieve it by the end of Campaign 4. When I decided I wanted to make the change in my life, the Avon Zone Manager suggested that I make a dream board of everything that I want to do with the income that I was now earning. Steadily I’m reaching the goals outline in my dream board. I’ve gone from not being computer literate to owning my own laptop, and running my business using all the programs like Excel and the internet. I am now able to take my children to a private school where their grades have improved significantly. In December I moved out of a flat that I was sharing with other families, into my own townhouse in Fourways! I’m currently studying for my driver’s license so that I can buy my very first car! Not only has Avon changed my life but I see everyday how Sales Leadership changes the lives of other people around me! WHY NOT YOU? WHY NOT TODAY?

1. Candidate

Notes to the editor: Avon Justine Pty (Ltd) has launched a new stratified sales model to enhance the earning potential for women and men through the sales of Avon products, grow its business and increase market share. This new model not only enables independent representatives to meet their ambitions but also allows for business skills development. The Avon Sales Leadership Framework (ASLF) is a multi - generational direct selling approach, which has been adopted successfully by Avon in other markets and is expected to help the company to rapidly grow its business locally. It is based on a simple principle that identifies leaders, trains them and in turn encourages them to identify other potential leaders, thereby forming multi – generational teams. These teams evolve with each leader identifying other candidates to train and create their own teams. This is a focused approach which will facilitate greater market penetration. Training is an essential component of ASLF. It will enable all levels of ASLF to have a competitive edge by building their business and marketing skills. The Sales Leadership Framework national roll-out will be completed in April. The levels of ASLF are:

2. Unit Leader

3. Advanced Unit Leader

4. Executive Unit Leader

5. Senior Executive Unit Leader

AVON SUCCESS STORIES Avon’s earning opportunity gives women from all walks of life the chance to unlock their earning potential, achieve financial freedom and security as well as assisting them in finding true personal development and empowerment. In addition, mothers can work according to their own schedules and spend more time with their families. For many women, Avon has opened doors and invited experiences that they never thought possible. Here are six stories from across South Africa, there are many more stories to be shared … Mavis Minyuku Kagiso, Gauteng Province Group Sales Leader For Mavis, selling Avon products has been a truly empowering experience. In 2008 Mavis made the brave decision to resign from her job as a Senior Administration Clerk at a high school to focus on her Avon business. Over the past year her client base has grown to such an extent that she can now afford many things she never would have dreamt of being able to buy in the past, including the purchase of a brand new van. And, more importantly, she has more time to spend with her children, and has used some of her Avon earnings to invest in their education. Mavis is confident that the demand for Avon’s quality products is huge, and intends to capitalise on this demand. She now runs her own business, managing people and recruiting new talent to help her sell Avon’s products. Mavis has been selling for various direct marketing organisations since 1986, but she says Avon has been the best and most financially rewarding experience to date, so much so that Mavis expects to soon top the earnings from her previous job. “Avon is great! I say this because Avon really sells itself. You don’t have to say too much about Avon to your customers. All I have to do is show my - customers fantastic Avon brochures and they are hooked. I meet many people who only have positive things to say about Avon.” – Mavis Minyuku Ina Swart Vanderbijl Park, Gauteng Province

Group Sales Leader For years Ina Swart looked for the right business to run from home while raising her children. After trying out a few businesses without reaping any rewards, she came across Avon, a business that allowed her to work flexible hours and see a sound financial return. Ina communicates with her team of Representatives and inputs her orders from home, which means she can pick up her children from school and take them to sports activities, doctor’s appointments and help them with their homework. She has three children aged 24, 19 and 14 and she says that starting her Avon business has not only given her financial independence but has also empowered her children. Seeing their mother deal with clients and manage business relationships from home is teaching them a whole new set of life and negotiation skills that will benefit them in later life. She joined as a Sales Representative and later became a Group Sales Leader. Through dedication and hard work Ina has managed to save money, buy two flats and a car with her Avon earnings. Ina can also look forward to a financially secure retirement as she puts some of her earnings aside every month specifically for her retirement. “This is what is so great about Avon and working for oneself. It’s not like a fixed salary that stays the same no matter how hard you work. When you need extra money with Avon, you know what to do, just work harder and get more representatives. I’m very proud to work for Avon. To say that I work for myself and earn my own salary brings a lot of satisfaction.” – Ina Swart Dinah Poopedi Limpopo Province Group Sales Leader Dinah is a single mother raising three children on her own. She is also a teacher, a job she is passionate about but which unfortunately does not earn her enough to support her family properly. In 2001, Dinah heard about Avon and starting selling Avon products. Today, Dinah reports that her earnings as an Avon Group Sales Leader helps her to pay their school fees and gives her the opportunity to give her children what many people take for granted; it pays for social outings for her children, and helps cover the costs of transport, which is becoming increasingly expensive. In the process, Dinah has fulfilled her life long dream and has extended and is currently refurbishing her home. Supplementing her teacher’s salary with Avon sales also means Dinah is more financially secure during this period of economic decline. “Selling Avon helps me out a lot and adds to my income. I can do so many things I could not have done before for myself and for my kids. With Avon I have extra money to take my family out for special treats.” – Dinah Poopedi _______________________________________________________________ Magdeline Mashile Pretoria, Gauteng Province Group Sales Leader

Magdeline has experienced a great deal of anxiety and pain over the last couple of years. Her child was in hospital for an extended period of time, in itself emotionally draining, but also financially taxing. Her income at a supermarket, albeit steady, was not enough to support her child’s medical bills and cover basic living costs. Magdeline is a strong woman though, and she turned her economic circumstances around, making the best out of a hard situation. In 2000, she seized the opportunity to sell Avon, quitting her full time job to focus on her Avon business, and also to give her more time at home with her child. Today, Magdeline earns more than she has ever earnt in the past and she is very positive about her future with Avon. She is financially independent for the first time in her life, and, while the income is not static, she says she has the power to increase her income by working harder. The convenience of being able to work from home has been most beneficial as she now has more time for herself and her family. “Were it not for Avon, I would not be where I am today. I am proud to be Group Sales Leader for Avon and I am so thankful to Avon for giving me the opportunity to take charge of my life.” – Magdeline Mashile _______________________________________________________________ Debbie Riggien Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal Group Sales Manager Debbie is a relative newcomer to the Avon team, but in two short years has been so successful in her Avon business that she made it into the Avon President’ s Club, a club which recognises top achieving representatives. A mother of three, Debbie worked at United/ABSA bank for 11 years before resigning to work for an independent broker half day, mainly to be able to spend more time with her children. Already a fan of Avon products, Debbie decided in 2006 to sell Avon, only to discover that for her, selling was a breeze. Debbie is currently saving for a family holiday, something her family hasn’t had for at least 10 years. “The discount on my own products attracted me! I LOVE selling Avon because I love the products, I work my hours, and I get as much time as I want with my family. I get to meet new people all the time and selling Avon has helped me as a person to grow.” – Debbie Riggien Stephanie Conradie Bothasig, Western Cape Group Sales Leader

Stephanie’s relationship with Avon started with Glimmersticks, and this attraction has grown to such an extent she now sells Avon products for a living. Before Avon, Stephanie worked for an insurance company, but in an effort to have more control over her income, in 2001 she decided to sell the products she herself was using. In 2006, she gave up her permanent job to focus on her Avon business, and to spend more time at home with her two sons. The money she has earnt from Avon bought her a dishwasher, and is saved towards her oldest son’s college fees. For Stephanie, being able to go on holidays is an extra bonus she can now afford. “I have gained more confidence and also gained increased earning. I believe Avon gives everyone the opportunity to be their best and achieve their goals.” – Stephanie Conradie _________________________________________________________________________ Notes to the editor: About Avon Founded in America in 1886, Avon, the company for women, with $ 10 billion in annual revenue is a global leader and pioneer of direct selling. DSA Success Stories Theme: Education Lettie Adams Left blind by her husband after a night of drunken rage and with three wonderful children aged 5, 9 and 12 who deserve an education, Lettie has struggled to survive financially and support herfamily. Now, amid a recession, times are even tougher but since Lettie began selling Avon she has been able to make an income to educate her children. She has been brave and courageous, fighting against all the odds in her everyday life. Having watched her own mother murdered at the age of seven, Lettie grew up without a mother so for her being a mother to her kids and providing them with all that she can is her highest goal. Throughout Lettie’s life, she has persevered to survive. When she was a little girl her grandparents took her in but when she grew old enough she went out to find an income so she would not be a burden to anyone. After she became blind people who knew her took her in and gave her a zinc-plate constructed home, but this was no place for anyone to live let alone someone with Lettie’s condition. Lettie was at a forum for disabled people when she was approached to sell Avon products, she did not think twice about this and jumped at the opportunity. At this stage her only income was a minimal child support grant from the government for each child. Today Avon is making a huge difference in Lettie’s life. Having given her back the power to support her own family and empowered her to make money of her own, Avon is a big part of her life. Lettie’s sales have grown by more than 200% in four months since her first small order with Avon in 2008. She has set goals for herself and more determined than ever to give her three children a better life through her own efforts. An earnings opportunity from Avon has given her hope, hope that things will get better during a global recession. Lettie’s children are a huge part of her life and educating her children is a big part of her life and she only hopes that she can teach them the value of education and make sure that they are empowered enough to break the cycle of abuse that has been present in Lettie’s life. “I enjoy the networking. Avon products are affordable and my biggest challenge selling Avon products is my blindness. I would recommend selling Avon products. Avon has given me, a blind woman a chance to earn money and make things easier for my children.” - Lettie Adams

Ria van Wyk Independent Avon Representative I BELIEVE During 1997, I have met a remarkable lady called Elize whom changed my whole life. We stayed in the Paarl then and she was the District Manager of Avon at that time. She believed Avon crossed her path for a specific reason and she believed strongly that Avon was to bring HOPE and OUTCOME to my circumstances as well. AVON did, and I will never REGRET joining. I am not in for the money, I stay because of the MANY BLESSINGS I have received and still are receiving by selling Avon to wonderful people ! Ria van Wyk
