Story Title: More crop per drop

FEEL:

List the situations/problems in your school/community that bothered you:

1. Wastage of water in the school.

2. Use of plastic inside the school campus

3. Wastage of food

4. Wastage of electricity

Who was affected by the situation/problem and what did they say?

No one was directly affected by the problem in our immediate surroundings. However, we have seen electricity, water, food being wasted which is a loss of our resources.  People who are dependent on rain water for farming were affected adversely and commit suicide in our state, which is what we keep reading in the newspapers. The villagers who come to work in our school shared that there is a lot of damage done to farming due to lack of proper rainfall.

IMAGINEState the problem you chose and why did you CHOOSE it?

Anubhuti, a residential school is located in jalgaon District. Jalgaon is located in the rain shadow area of Maharashtra state. This year it has received the rain fall around 327.3mm during the monsoon which is lowest in the last ten years.

In our hostels we have uninterrupted water supply due to which we find many of our friends playfully wasting water in the bathrooms. We have heard from the workers that due to water crisis nearby villagers are facing problems in farming. When people, plants and animals around are facing difficulty due to water shortage should we be wasting water in our bathrooms?

List the different solutions you came up with. Which one did you choose to implement and why?

Poster campaign to bring awareness about the water crisis.

Power point presentation before the whole school in the school assembly with necessary water consumption data to prepare the community for saving water.

Preparing a water consumption table and display it in the dining hall where all the children and staff can see it and reflect on it.

Documenting and saving all the data and sharing with the community members.

Designed a water saving competition between the hostels which will  run for a month. The hostel which will be consuming least amount of water will be declared as the winner on 2nd of October; Gandhi Jayanti day.

Time to time power point presentation giving the updates on water consumption with suitable videos taken from you tube for inspiring the students and staff to save more water.

Observing Dry Day to experience water crisis.

Watering the plants with saved water.

DOThis is our story of CHANGE! (Write in brief your act of DO)

We implemented all the seven points except the eighth one as the saved water automatically got used in the gardens through the drip irrigation system which in turn put less pressure on the river from which we draw water for consumption.

1. In our story of change we could save 3.74lac liters of water in the month of September.

2. We could achieve it by making our friends more sensitive and aware about water crisis in our state and locality.

3. Slowly saving water, electricity and food becoming the part of Anubhuti Culture.
