BCAM has awarded two winners of the "Incubator Surveys and Experiments”contest

Ø The two students awarded in the competition are Alba HERNÁNDEZ COSTOYA (IES Solokoetxe BHI) and Ane BARBERO BALDOA (Pureza de María), have represented the Basque Country Community in the national contest where they obtained a fourth place.

Ø The competition is addressed to junior, high and training cycles schools students in the Basque Country. Ø The award ceremony will be held on September 30, 2016, 17:30, “Paraninfo” Faculty of Science and Technology at UPV-EHU, Leioa

BCAM has awarded two winners of the "Incubator Surveys and Experiments” organized by The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics and Operations Research at the Faculty of Science and Technology (ZTF-FCT), University of the Basque Country UPV / EHU, with the collaboration of Euskal Estatistika Erakundea / Institute Basque Statistics Office (EUSTAT) and BCAM.

Inmaculada AROSTEGUI, BCAM-UPV/EHU Researcher, and Dae-Jin LEE, Research Line Leader and BCAM Researcher at BCAM (Data Science - Applied Statistics) have been part of the selection committee of the Basque Autonomous Community stage. The aims of the contest are:

• Promote the teaching and learning of Statistics, Probability and Operational Research at non-university educational levels. • Expand knowledge and skills as well as promote the importance and usefulness of statistics in real life and in all academic

disciplines. • Awaken interest on statistics, as a key tool in all sciences, among students. • Familiarize students with the different steps in carrying out a statistical project. • Learn to interpret the various statistical information around us and encourage critical thinking.

Ø Alba HERNÁNDEZ COSTOSA (IES Solokoetxe BHI) y Ane BARBERO BALDOA (Pureza de María) han representado a la Comunidad Autónoma Vasca en el concurso nacional, donde obtuvieron el el cuarto puesto.

Ø El concurso está dirigido a estudiantes de escuelas intermedias, secundarias y ciclos de formación en el País Vasco. Ø La entrega de premios será el 30 de septiembre, 2016, 17:30, en el Paraninfo de la Facultad de Ciencia y Tecnología de la UPV-EHU, Leioa

BCAM ha premiado a dos ganadores del concurso “Incubadora de sondeos y experimentos”organizado por el Departamento de Matemática Aplicada y Estadística e Investigación Operativa de la Facultad de Ciencia y Tecnología (ZTF-FCT) de la Universidad del Paiís Vasco UPV / EHU, con la colaboración de la Oficina de Euskal Estatistika Erakundea / Instituto Vasco de Estadística (EUSTAT) y BCAM.

Inmaculada AROSTEGUI, BCAM-UPV/EHU Researcher y Dae-Jin LEE, BCAM Researcher y líder de la línea de Investigación BCAM (Data Science - Applied Statistics) han sido parte del jurado de la competición de la fase regional de la Comunidad Autónoma Vasca.

Los objetivos del concurso son:

• Fomentar la enseñanza y aprendizaje de la Estadística, Probabilidad e Investigación Operativa en los niveles educativos no universitarios.

• Ampliar los conocimientos y competencias así como difundir la importancia y utilidad de la Estadística en la vida real y en todas las disciplinas académicas.

• Despertar entre los estudiantes el interés de la Estadística como herramienta fundamental en la práctica totalidad de las ciencias. • Familiarizar a los estudiantes con las distintas etapas en la realización de un proyecto estadístico. • Aprender a interpretar las distintas informaciones estadísticas que nos rodean y fomentar el espíritu crítico.
