Increases system availabilityThe target is to protect devices in an electrical installation from damage caused by lightning and surges. However, even in the event of a fault, there should be no unintentional interac-tion between the surge protective devices and the system. This can be achieved with the RADAX Flow spark gap technology of the DEHN arresters. Load on fuses, circuit breakers and oth-er system components is avoided by reducing the mains follow currents to a minimum. In conventional installations, the up-stream system fuse is often used as a backup fuse for the surge protective devices. In the event of a fault, there is a danger that the entire system may be disconnected (Figure 1).

Circuit Interruption Fuse Integrated (CI): The CI arresters by DEHN feature an integrat-ed backup fuse. In case of a fault, only the surge protective device is disconnected. This maintains system availability (Figure 2).

Saves spaceThe space in a switchgear cabinet is very limited. CI arresters from DEHN do not require an external backup fuse and con-sequently occupy up to 75 per cent less space. This is also an advantage for retrofits.

Reduces time and materialThe CI arresters from DEHN can be installed quickly and safely using only a small quantity of materials.

Optimum backup fuseThe specially developed fuse is coordinated with the product and ensures the best possible performance for the SPD.

Easy remote monitoringThe integrated fuse of the CI arresters from DEHN is automat-ically monitored. Monitoring external backup fuses entails much greater effort and expense.

Allows short cable lengthsAccording to the installation standard, the maximum cable length is limited to 0.5 m1). A considerable amount of the avail-able length is already taken up by the external backup fuse. This limits the installation possibilities. The CI arresters from DEHN allow you to keep cables shorter.
