Hello everyone, The InC Rio, along with much of the Northern hemisphere will officially be on vacation during the lovely month of July. We wish all of you who are traveling a safe journey and plenty of sunshine and many memorable moments with your loved ones. Our new Editor, Brenda Ledesma and our Communications Director, Jolanda Maltha however love their jobs so much that they have decided to produce an extra special "lite" version of our Echo newsletter. This edition is just so none of us "Carioca Expats" forget to return home and and when we do, we can hit the ground running. We are also saying our final goodbyes to Marinda Gerber, our former President, Mary Dwyer our Secretary and Cathy Boudain, our treasurer who will be leav-ing by the end of the month. We will miss you and the other members who will be leaving. I have heard however that Marinda will be helping us with our Taste of Rio event from Singapore and there will always be a space open in the Echo where we will print info from old friends. Once you are settled, we’d love hearing about how you are doing in your new life. We have some very exciting news for the second half of 2013.The InC is expand-ing! We will attempt to open a satellite group in Macae which will bring members like Jill Lewin and Helene Buob back to us. You can really contribute by getting in touch with your friends in Macae and asking them to get in touch with us at [email protected]. Another very innovative step will be taken in August when we will be adding another CAFEZINHO. It will be on a Thursday morning, alternating between Zona Sul and Barra and will have a very special purpose. The official language of the cafezinho will be PORTUGUES. It will give us all a chance to celebrate and practice the language of this beautiful country and allow us to welcome a large groups of expats which have been overlooked in our international community. The people that do not speak English well but that have Portuguese as a common language. Liliana Perilla, our new membership director will be speaking to the Latin American Community and I hope that all of you, who are from countries where English is not a first language will encourage your countrymen to join in. All our other events will continue to have English as the official language but I ask you to please be open to helping our new members who might need a little encouragement and help with their English at these meetings.

My best to all of you,

Bonnie

with Wainer Guimaraes

Tuesday, June 25

10:30 am

Clube Federal - Rua Timoteo da Costa 988

Leblon

Our June general meeting brings us a very special speaker:

Wainer Guimaraes

A Theologian with a Master’s Degree from North Park Theological, Wainer has dedicated his life social project affecting youth. He is the founder and director of Grupo Mosaico and Art and Social Transformation Projects, both NGOs dedicated to fostering art among lower income youth, and channeling artistic talent into blossoming careers. Wainer’s work is familiar to some in Inc Rio; one if his groups performed music at the club’s last wine & dine event—the caipirinhas and comidinhas bonanza fund-raiser. We are delighted that Wainer has accepted our invitation to speak at the semes-ter’s last General Meeting. His work overlaps with Inc Rio’s social awareness and charitable aspects. We look forward to seeing all of you for what promises to be an enlightening and interesting talk about youth, art, and social awareness. See you there!

The entertain-ment doesn’t stop there – there’s live music, co-medic MC’s and a DJ to get the dancing started.
