Alkhorayef group co. chairman, Shaikh Sadd Abdullah Alkhorayef has announced his nomination for the elections of Chamber of Industry and Commerce to select its new board members. His nomination is falling under industrialists list which includes besides himself, Eng. Saad Ibrahim Almogil, Abdulaziz Mohammed Alajlan, Eng. Ahmed Sulayman Al-Rajhy, Fahad Mohammed Al-Hammady, Eng. Mohammed Omran Alomran, Khalid Abdulaziz Almugairin, Abdulrahman Aljuraisi, Dr. Jamal AlMidaihim, Abdullah Ali Balsharaf, Mohammed Abdulaziz AlSarhan, Dr. Sami Abdulkareem.

The election program set by Shaikh Saad Alkhorayef and the evolvement group includes programs seeking to support the efforts exerted to control inflation and lessen its negative social impacts, and to support young business men and their participation in economic activities to create more job opportunities, and to enhance the role played by members of chamber of commerce in Riyadh, and to support and develop the performance of medium and small businesses.

Also Shaikh Saad and the group programs aim to intensify the contributions of the chamber of commerce in Riyadh in social and charity activities, to improve the chamber executive systems, apply modern technology, to polarize and develop talents, to improve Riyadh investment environment, create more facilities, and to attract and encourage saudi and non- saudi investors to invest in Riyadh, and to coordinate with governmental institutions to simplify the procedures, and to provide necessary facilitations to industrial, agricultural, trade, tourism, and service sectors.

Shaikh Saad has called the chamber’s members to support his nomination and to vote for him on the election day scheduled on 12, 13 November 2008, affirming that he will exert all possible efforts to develop chamber of industry and commerce works in order to provide better services to its members, he also promised to call for an easy governmental procedures to encourage investors in the Riyadh area, that will lead to more job opportunities, and accomplishing economic development under the leadership of the custodian of the two Holy Mosques government, and the assisting the chamber of commerce to play its social role in serving the community.

Nominations were closed on Saturday 25 – 10- 1429 corresponding 25-10-2008.

Riyadh chamber elections supervising committee has approved elections and nominations time table, the committee has set Tuesday and Wednesday 13 and 14 Thulqidaa corresponding 11 and 12 November 2008 as elections day. Voting is to take place within two periods, the first one from 08.00 AM to 12.00 Noon and the second one from 04.00 PM to 09.00 PM.

Under the auspices of His Excellency sheikh Saad Alkhorayef, CEO, Alkhorayef Petroleum held its first conference at the Holiday Inn Hotel at the Half Moon Bay Beach in Al Khobar, during the period from 12 to 13 July, 2008. More than 60 leaders, representing the company’s various branches worldwide, attended the conference. The conference sessions comprised several seminars that discussed the company’s works and expansion plans. During the conference, some changes concerning some structural issues and the promotion of staff members were announced.

At the closure of the conference, Sheikh Saad thanked all employees for their efforts under the leadership of the company’s president Mr. David Henderson. He also expressed his appreciation of the distinguished team-spirited performance they have shown, which fosters the accomplishment of the company’s goals.

On the conference agenda, there were visits to the two factories in the Second Industrial City in Dammam. On the first day, participants visited the Electric Submersible Pumps factory, and the WEPCO factory on the second day where they were briefed on the potentials of the factories and equipment.

AISCO Europe Company, an AGC subsidiary, finished installing the first Western irrigation systems completely manufactured by Alkhorayef factories in Saudi Arabia. The pivot is planned to irrigate rice fields in Panama/South America, where Agriculture is a basic human activity. In Panama, 26% of the

population works in the agricultural industry where rice is one of the major crops along with sugar cane and bananas.

"This first pivot will be soon followed by more pivots to be used for irrigating rice in Panama", said Mr. Jose Fernando Tomas,GM/ AISCO Europe Company.

As SPC & GulfParts endeavor to distribute SPI Product Brand

In MENA countries, as part of a 3-year Plan, GulfParts signed a distribution agreement with the Libyan Al-Masar Al-Hadeeth Co. to be their official distributer of SPI Brand in whole Libya. The first shipment already arrived in Tripoli during June 2008. Moreover, the Libyan agent placed a second order of another shipment . SPI Brand proved to be of a highly reliable, premium quality as it was well received by the end users in the Libyan Market .

Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Alkhalaf, Saudi ambassador to Bahrain, has held a reception on the occasion of the national day at Algazal hall in Retzcarelton hotel. The ceremony was attended by many diplomats and businessmen. APC was represented by its Government relations GM and HR Assistant Manager. Congratulations were exchanged during the party.

First meeting of the Saudi Federation for Marine Sports and Racers

The Marine Division at Al Khorayef Industries Co. organized the first meeting between Saudi Federation for Marine Sports and several racers at the company’s premises, the Auto Mall, in Jeddah. The meeting was attended by Dr. Hassan Anbar, Mr. Osama Gharban and Mr. Abdullah Al-Sohaibany who represented the Federation.

The meeting shed light on the Federation, its mission, and duties, as well as on Marine Sports in general. They also discussed the concerns and obstacles facing such sports and setting an Action Plan to overcome these obstacles. Such plan would upgrade the sport and create a base of Saudi champions who could represent the Kingdom worldwide.

Farewell Gathering to Honour Mr. Al Khalaf

A farewell gathering was recently held to honor Mr. khalaf Al Khalaf, GM of the Saudi Parts Centre CO., in recognition of the services he rendered to the company during his term of office. The gathering was attended by Mr. Saud AbdelAziz Al Swailem, GM/ HR of AGC, along with numerous personnel of the Center. Technologies develop and discoveries accelerate to facilitate our everyday life as individuals or societies. Nowadays, several up-to-date technologies emerged to ease our daily routines and help speed up the completion of work without any delay or disruption. The massive direct influence of these technologies on our lives is spontaneously noticeable in case of any equipment breakdown or product quality deficiencies. Nevertheless, one can easily observe how our societies lack the awareness and culture of preventive periodic maintenance needed to avoid the sudden failure of equipment, or at least minimize the repercussions of any machinery breakdown.

By “awareness” and “maintenance culture”, we mean being educated with the proper use of technologies and its protection against extreme weather, and other, conditions.

Periodic maintenance is the finest method to serve our purpose here. Yet, many people lack such awareness, as they fail to engage in periodic maintenance practices or even use genuine spare parts. Trying to avoid periodic maintenance for financial reasons or lack of awareness, is such a drastic mistake to commit as it negatively influences our safety and the safety of others in the same facility.

Therefore, at the Maintenance Division of our Maritime Sector, we are keen on enlightening our clients of the importance of periodic maintenance to preserve their own assets and equipment. We also instruct our clients on how take the necessary safety measures while using their equipment to avoid hazards as much as possible.

Our customers are also made aware of the importance of purchasing genuine spare parts for all their possessions such as cars, motorbikes, marine equipment, engines, electric appliances and electronics in general.

Thus, I address all providers and dealers of electronic appliances, and engines to fulfill their social obligations and guide their clients towards the ideal operation and proper maintenance of their equipment. Dealers should also be accurate and specific when notifying their clients of how to locate the maintenance centers and their timings for effortless ease of access. A dealer should also provide genuine spare parts, perfect reception of the client and the proper after-sale service. All such measures would lead to the satisfaction of the customers who reach the service centers for periodic maintenance and spare parts purchase.

In spare parts business, it is taken for granted that the trademarks of western origin are indisputably reliable in terms of credibility and quality, which is the direct result of importing the equipment they serve from the same countries that manufacture these parts. Yet, consumers may not be aware that machinery and equipment manufacturers lack the infrastructure and production lines necessary to manufacture dozens or even hundreds of thousands of spare parts for assembling a single machine. Therefore, they commissioned other manufacturers from various parts of the world, who work under certain specifications and quality standards, to fabricate the parts required to assemble a machine or make their spare part reserve.

Consequently, several indigenous manufacturers produced spare parts for the machinery producing companies while working on their own trademarks. Thus, they managed to monopolize the spare part markets of the Arab region via presenting various brands under different labels, and manipulating prices and quality standards. However, they failed to observe the unique nature of our regional market, its different needs in terms of its exceptional climate and purchasing power.

Therefore, on the basis of its future perspective, the administration of the Saudi Parts Centre Company (SPC), realized that the need to establish a special trade mark in the world of spare parts, is the ideal method to serve a huge base of clients, whether inside or outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This vision was based on several specific factors:

The need of the regional market for a specialized reliable spare part trade mark to serve heavy machinery.

The instability the business of global leading manufacturers and trademark owners as far as technicalities, financial resources or merging problems are concerned.

Falsifying some renowned trademarks in some Asian markets which led to the loss of consumer confidence in the quality of such brands.

Thus, SPI came into being as a trademark utterly owned by the Saudi Parts Center Company (SPC) and its exporters; GulfParts – Dubai.

Three years ago, our endeavors to establish the newly born SPI as a competing trademark, wasn’t an easy mission, especially in the presence of several other competitors. Yet, with a focus on quality as a priority, something which others in the region couldn’t afford, in addition to offering premeditated competitive prices and marketing plans that observed the needs of the local market, SPI became a reliable trademark in the spare parts world of today (as stated by several consumers)

As obvious to everyone, the administration of SPC signed several long-term contracts with some oil companies in the region to provide them with SPI spare parts. Signing such contracts stands as proof of the absolute trust SPI gained in the region, especially that our clients, the oil and drilling companies, require spare parts of supreme quality.

Despite performing other services for the same client, accounting firms may still be independent when performing audits because of the autonomy, which their service units enjoy.

Accounting firms, which have separate units for different services offered, enjoy a higher level of independence while their reports are more useful, compared to those without separate service units. The observed difference is simply that the presence of such service units contributes to audit independence.

What to do:CPA’s and CA’s in public practice should continue

to enhance and extend their traditional services to be competitive and to better serve their clients and the public at large. The demands from client for a greater range of services necessitates that they should maintain and modify existing clients services to meet clients changing needs. An auditor should reasonably expect what to accomplish in his audit engagement.

Professional organizations of CPA’s and CA’s should strictly adhere to ruling in independence, especially those concerning financial matters or involvement. Standard audit reports should be improved or modified to meet the expanding informational needs of investors, creditors, management and the general public.

No ethical concept is more important to the Certified Public Accountants’ (CPA’s) and/or Chartered Accountants’ (CA’s) service, their image and other projects than Independence. The auditing services and profession primarily build their authority and acceptance on the basis of Independence.

Researches reveal that there are certain types of services which, when performed, impair Audit Independence. While, on one hand, it would appear that Independence may, to a certain degree, be sacrificed, if CPA’s and CA’s performs services other than audits for the same client. On the other hand, this may not be the case if they have separate units that are independently organized.

The Problem:Researches identify auditors independence as

prescribed by accounting firms. Their audit clients and users of audited financial statements, determine the type of services offered by accounting firms, and how independently organized the service units. The way accounting firms offer audit, or other, services, and how they handle various financial statement users, prove their independence and the usefulness of their audit reports.

Findings:Accounting firms mainly offer various services such as: (1) Audit services (2) Tax services (3) Management advisory services (4) Bookkeeping services (5) Other services.

The majority of accounting firms, which have various separate service units, are independently organized in terms of functional and administrative relationships and the responsibility of the partners/owners over each service units.

The accounting firms with separate service units are very independent and their audit reports are very useful. Therefore, more clients for audit and other services find their auditors very independent and their reports more useful compared to those offering audit services only.

availed more than the rest although audit and tax services remain their professional practices. More clients now avail of management advisory and other services such as investment consultancy, stock transfer services, and incorporation of businesses.
