From the President’s Desk...

HAPPY SPRING SORORS!

Thank you to Dione Brooks, Marvene Mitchell & Alisa Vukasinovich,

Chair and Co -Chairs, respectively, for a beautiful 69th Debutante Ball

Presentation. You and your committee did a wonderful job. A great time

was had by all.

Also a big thank you to Gwynn Richardson and her committee for an

engaging and spirited “Girls Talk” program. From Zumba to

Educational Workshops, there was plenty of fun and life lessons learned.

As we wind down the Sorority year, lets remember to continue to channel

positive energy into the atmosphere. We must continue to uplift our

sisters in prayer. This is also the month when we honor our mothers.

Whether your mom is alive or in glory, take the time to reflect on how

much she means to you.

I AM MY SISTERS KEEPER!

Sisterly Love and Hugs,

Kim

The Big “B”

Budgeting, budgeting, budgeting - a word we all so love to hear. Yes, it can be over-whelming comparing your monthly expenses to your monthly income. However, if you are striving for financial well-being, you have to take the first step – which is knowing where you stand. Start by writing down your monthly income. Then write down and total all the monthly bills you have - for bills that are paid quarterly, e.g. water bill, divide by 3 to get a monthly amount. Subtract the amount of total bills from your monthly income. This will tell you how much money you have left after bills are paid. The next step is to record every expenditure you make during a given month with a debit card, check or cash. This will show you where the rest of your money is going, e.g. eating out, shopping, trips, etc. In or-der for your bank account to change, your lifestyle might need to change, also. Do you really NEED that monthly cable bill? A one-time purchase of an Amazon Fire TV Stick (@ $30 and up) or Apple TV (@ $120 and up) which have no re-occurring monthly payments may be a better option? Can you make coffee at home instead of buying Starbucks every day? Have you talked to your financial institution about refinanc-ing your mortgage or car to a lower interest rate? There are many ways you can cut costs and save. The hard part is taking the time to develop a budget to save and having the discipline to stick to the budget. Start by setting aside an hour to plan your path to financial freedom. Then set a small financial goal, e.g. save $300 by the end of 90 days. Your success at meeting a small goal will inspire you to achieve even larger goals. Stay tuned for more budgeting and sav-ings strategies to turn those cents into dollars.

The next Financial Fortitude meeting is Sunday, May 6, 2:00 p.m. at Panera on Brown Street.
